Hi biggrin.gif The reveal of the nominations is less than two months away, Thursday 14th January, so it's about time we had an official predictions game. I'm using 'Best Picture' and the acting categories for points but you're welcome to predict in other categories as well should you so choose! Going to be a couple of points for each nomination predicted correctly and I'm going to say a bonus five if you can guess the winner at this stage as well. Some of these movies haven't yet had a UK release which makes it more tricky but you're welcome to make changes up until the reveal if you choose but please make these clear in the thread.

Ten for 'Best Picture' and five for each acting category please~

Here are mine below to kick things off

BEST PICTURE
"Spotlight" *WINNER*
"Room"

I'll do this soon - great idea.

I don't think there were any standouts in Spotlight - it seemed to be more about the story than the performances, but Ruffalo might get a nod. Joan Allen was cute in Room, but her part was very small and she didn't seem to have any big memorable moments. I bloody hope Rooney Mara gets a nom, it would be great to see Kate finally get a nom after so many flops since her win!

I had to drag someone else in so she's one of a couple of 'wildcards'. On the chance that she does a Laura Dern and she might get dragged in with the film getting so much love (as above I'm expecting Brie to win and the film itself could be on the heels of Spotlight).

Likewise Emory Cohen really, I wasn't confident on a fifth name and that comes with some personal bias. kink.gif

Is there a deadline on this, and if we post them now, are we allowed to edit them before that deadline? This is a very tricky thing~ And reactions to Joy, Hateful 8 and Revenant are still pending which will hugely affect things rly.

Edited my post, the changes should be clear smile.gif
Also I've included alternatives for Supporting Actress/Actress depending on where Vikander & Mara end up and alternative 9 and 10 for Best Picture depending on how many nominees there will be this year!

Spotlight isn't really getting any nominations for acting yet, as I predicted after seeing the film. They just aren't those kinds of performances. Hoping as a long shot Ruff night manage an oscar nom...

Made some edits now, taken out Bridge of Spies, Joy and Brooklyn from Best Picture and added Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road and The Big Short instead.

Made Leo win Best Actor over Fassbender as well as taking out Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks for Matt Damon and Bryan Cranston.

Made Brie Larson win and took out Carey Mulligan for Alicia Vikander, Carey seems to have totally faded despite being excellent in Suffragette.

Taken out Robert DeNiro and Benicio Del Toro in Supporting and added Paul Dano and Sylvester Stallone, was almost tempted to change the latter to winner but I'll stick with Rylance.

Also changed Vikander for TDG for Vikander in Ex Machina, she has a good chance of winning there perhaps but think it'll go to Rooney Mara if she is put there.

Am I the only one completely struggling with best picture prediction winner?
Can see it being any of The Big Short/Spotlight/Revenant and wouldn't be surprised with a Carol/Martian/Mad Max win after! So unpredictable this year but such a good year, unpredictable years are the best wub.gif

Also will edit mine again in a couple of days, don't think I need to do to much more though!

I'll make some last minute changes tonight or tomorrow but for me I see Best Picture being Spotlight vs. Revenant vs. Room. I'll throw my prediction behind the latter when I make edits, it's one that everyone seems to love and connect with, featuring two strong lead performances which I see both scoring noms (and I see Brie being the biggest certainty to win).

The wins for the Revenant at the Globes can't hurt, but no one has ever directed back-to-back Best Picture wins so I'll rely on that not changing thinking.gif

for some reason I kind of think Star Wars might sneak in here if they go for 10. I know they don't generally go for blockbuster's as a rule, but nostalgia and general positivity around it feel like they might carry it

Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs)
Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl)
Matt Damon (The Martian)
Bryan Cranston (Trumbo)

Best actress:
Cate Blanchett (Carol)

QUOTE(J▲hq @ Nov 20 2015, 03:11 PM) *
Here are mine below to kick things off

BEST PICTURE
"Spotlight"
"Room" *WINNER* (changed from Spotlight)
"Brooklyn"
"The Revenant"
"Bridge of Spies"
"The Danish Girl"
"Inside Out"
"The Hateful Eight"
"The Big Short" (replacing "Black Mass")
"Carol"

BEST ACTOR
Michael Fassbender "Steve Jobs"
Matt Damon "The Martian" (replacing Johnny Depp "Black Mass")
Eddie Redmayne "The Danish Girl"
Leonardo DiCaprio "The Revenant" *WINNER* (changed from Johnny Depp)
Tom Hanks "Bridge Of Spies"

BEST ACTRESS
Brie Larson "Room" *WINNER*
Saoirse Ronan "Brooklyn"
Jennifer Lawrence "Joy"
Cate Blanchett "Carol"
Alicia Vikander "The Danish Girl" (replacing Carey Mulligan "Suffragette")

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jacob Tremblay "Room"
Mark Rylance "Bridge of Spies" (replacing Michael Keaton "Spotlight") *WINNER* (changed from Mark Ruffalo)
Mark Ruffalo "Spotlight"
Tom Hardy "The Revenant"
Sylvester Stallone "Creed" (replacing Emory Cohen "Brooklyn")

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Alicia Vikander "Ex Machina" (replacing herself with "The Danish Girl" upgraded to a lead nom)
Kate Winslet "Steve Jobs"
Rooney Mara "Carol" *WINNER* (changed from Alicia Vikander ("The Danish Girl"))
Jennifer Jason Leigh "The Hateful Eight"
Joan Allen "Room"

Tried to stick as close to my original predictions as possible..most drastic changes being Mark Rylance going from nothing to a win (been meaning to add him in since seeing Bridge of Spies which was fantastic) and Johnny Depp going from a win to a snub (and to flip it the other way, I hated "Black Mass").

Not buying into the Mad Max or Martian (in Best Picture terms) buzz is what's probably going to come back and haunt me tomorrow and that'll be as a result of my own negative opinions on them :')

I'll try and lock this thread around midday if anyone still wishes to take part~

The Screen Actors Guild have gone for him which gives me some hope unsure.gif (SAG and the Oscars had the exact same noms in that category last year right down to the same winner - but then three of my predicted nominees deviate from the SAG so I won't make a deal of it laugh.gif)
