QUOTE
BTRC, the Belarusian national broadcaster has announced today that Belarus will select its Eurovision entry for the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest via a national selection which will culminate in a national final.

The 2016 Belarusian Eurovision entry and act will be determined via public voting (televoting/sms voting) during a televised national final.

This will be on January 15th x

QUOTE
Belarus will once again hold a national selection in order to pick its act for ESC. But unlike in previous years, the selection committee will give preference to songs with Belarusian lyrics. Here’s how Davydko put it:

"We intend to look for next year’s song in the Belarusian language. We aren’t excluding songs in English, Russian, French, or even in Hindi, but preference will be given to those in the Belarussian language."

I am ready for the Belarusian language version of "I Love Belarus" *.*

That 'Pray For Love' song is awful, so screechy.

My personal choice would be Kirill Yermakov - Running To The Sun

Although it's largely an average choice for Belarus, the Radiovolna song is quite good and Napoli's 'My Universe' reminds me of Zlata Ognevich's 'Gravity'.

Running Order
Click ♫ to listen to the studio versions of each song!

01 | Alexey Gross - Flame
02 | Sasha Zakharik - Glory Night
03 | Valeriya Sadovskaya - Not Alone
04 | Radiovolna - Radio Wave
05 | The EM - Turn Around
06 | NAVI - Heta ziamlia
07 | Ivan - Help You Fly
08 | Anastasiya Malashkevich - Pray For Love
09 | Kirill Yermakov - Running To The Sun
10 | NAPOLI - My Universe

Voting
The voting will consist of one round of 100% televoting.

Potential Winners?
According to Betfair, Ivan is a strong favourite at odds of approximately 5/4. If there was to be a surprise then Kirill Yermakov is first in line on odds of 3/1, with NAVI not too far behind on 7/2. Anastasiya Malashkevich, Alexey Gross and Valeriya Sadovskaya are also not to be completely ruled out with odds of 9/2, 6/1 and 7/1 respectively. Fan opinions would back up Ivan as a very likely winner especially with the fact that he apparently has a Russian promo team pumping lots of money into him. NAVI, NAPOLI and perhaps Kirill have the most hype amongst the rest.

I have only listened to the supposed top few favourites, but I think Kirill is my favourite too. Ivan's song is decent so he wouldn't be a bad winner at all, but I would prefer Kirill, NAPOLI and perhaps NAVI over him. But I'm pretty sure he's going to win, and it's a good solid entry if he does!

Ivan's voice is not good and the song isn't up to much so I'll be disappointed it he does in fact win. I'm fully backing Kirill and NAPOLI.

Quite a professional show in Belarus tonight! Although I don't think anything they choose will get them out of the semis.

Looking like NAPOLI versus Ivan in the voting, hoping the former will hold on but Ivan is catching quickly.

It's looking like Ivan after all with only a few minutes left to go! Insanely high televoting numbers with Ivan and NAPOLI both pushing 20,000 votes - the winner of the televoting last year got less than 3,000! And in the last 100% televoting selection back in 2009, Petr Elfimov won with only 11,000 votes in a field of just 5 contestants.

The conspiracy theorists amongst Eurofans would think a few SIM cards could be involved! kink.gif

Ivan wins by just over 700 votes!

It's decent enough, would've preferred NAPOLI (2nd) or preferably Kirill who came 3rd.

It's going nowhere near the final! Will probably match Petr Elfimov's result at best.

The producer of Help You Fly is known to be friends with Lukashenko apparently! kink.gif

Speak for yourselves guys, this is sounding great!

(also Petr Elfimov comparisons are welcomed, musically at least, not results-wise)

Well I don't mind the song particularly, his voice lets it down a bit but it's nice in a 'middle of my final rankings' sort of way.

Right on cue, the vote rigging allegations have arrived - although in a different way than expected. NAPOLI's manager has admitted to "rigging" the televoting, due to the knowledge that they already predicted Ivan's team to do the same. So they tried to play them at their own game!

QUOTE
Napoli manager has admitted they have spent some money on the televoting

He wrote that anyone thinking the figures around 20000 were realistic is daydreaming. They had a suspicion that team of Ivan, whom he calls "practically unknown singer backed by a very respected manager" would try to win televoting, so they got prepared in advance. They had organized a team who payed for the voting from their own pocket and kept on voting throughout the televoting window as the voting was unlimited. Each of them spent around 100 USD.

Yet, he thinks this is not cheating, as it was allowed according to the rules, each of these people has supported Napoli's bid, and they just did exactly what were supposed to do - voting non-stop for their favourite. He though hopes next year rules will be changed and jury will get reintroduced. The total amount of votes IVAN or Napoli got would have costed around 4500 USD, and the rate was 770 votes per minute, so is fairly reachable within 30 minutes by team of 50-100 people.

In Moldova there had been an open talk about need to invest in the televoting as well, one of the managers of entry in NF openly spoken at TV that televoting goes as a separate cost graph in their preparations budget, as if you won't invest in it, some other artist will do the same.

(Andy from ESC Kaz, posted on ESC Nation)

That confirms our suspicions, and with Kirill getting over 13,000 votes I wouldn't be too surprised if he was in on it too as that is still very very high numbers for Belarus. Therefore, NAVI could've actually been the real winner, or maybe Kirill if he really was so popular. I find it hard to believe he would've had over an 8,000 lead over the song behind him though. Definitely not NAPOLI or Ivan though!

Nickleback were painful enough in the 00s. I soviet version in 2016 is very unnecessary - truly, truly AWFUL.
