Seen all of these and would rank them like this

1 Eddie Redmayne "The Theory of Everything"
2 Steve Carrell "Foxcatcher"
3 Michael Keaton "Birdman"
4 Benedict Cumberbatch "The Imitation Game"
5 Bradley Cooper "American Sniper"

Eddie was easily my winner here, he WAS Stephen Hawking and there could be no other winner for me really, glad he took it home! Foxcatcher is not a movie I enjoyed whatsoever but Steve Carrell was brilliant in it, the first time I was properly wowed by him, he was utterly terrifying in parts, so unnerving. Birdman was good all over but Edward Norton was actually my highlight of the cast so I'm glad really that Michael Keaton didn't win though I would've still been happy if he did. Benedict Cumberbatch was fine in TIG but a lot of other people could've done the role just as well really, I'm not his biggest fan tbh laugh.gif Finally, I do like Bradley Cooper a lot but he really did nothing all that special in this, it just seems that the US was in American Sniper mania around the voting period so it was a lucky nomination, if this year was re-run, I imagine he wouldn't make the cut!

In terms of snubs, David Oyelowo REALLY should've been here, he was fantastic and totally believable as MLK. Ralph Fiennes was also loads of fun in The Grand Budapest Hotel, he was one of the few things I liked about the film and I really thought he was a lock for the nomination this year. Can't believe Cooper made it in over them ohmy.gif I haven't seen Nightcrawler but I imagine that Jake was great too and he's really deserving of a second Oscar nomination by now.

Also, omg at Eddie Redmayne getting back-to-back wins if I ran the Oscars!!1

Jake Gyllenhaal was absolutely SNUBBED that year. After Redmayne he easily gave the best performance that year. Oyelowo was also terrific!
