This week has seen not one, but two, UK hits from the 2000’s return back to the UK charts many years after their were first released.

The first example is Perfect (Exceeder) by Mason which was originally a #3 hit in 2007, but this week returned to the UK Top 40 at #40.

The second example is Murder On The Dancefloor which peaked at #2 in late 2001.

What other examples can you recall of this happening in the charts?

Yes it was released in 2008 initially before a re-release in early 2010.

I think we're on track for Natasha Bedingfield's Unwritten returning to the charts thanks to Anyone But You.

We also had Santana's Maria Maria return last year thanks to TikTok where it got to #43.

I’d seen Perfect (Exceeder) mentioned a lot this week, didn’t realise that it was this song. :lol

Jack Saunders said something quite poignant on the Chart Show today that a lot of listeners to these tracks now are people that have never heard of them before because of their age. Whilst it makes me feel incredibly old, it's also nice to see nostalgia resonating with a lot of younger listeners.

Sorry to be the one to bring it up for some of you but there was Wheatus with 'Teenage Dirtbag' which of course was in the top 40 just before the Christmas Overload but it also re-entered in 2011 or 12 due to a iTunes reduction!

and on topic of that we saw Evanescence 'Bring Me To Life' make a return via the same way in 2011, 8 years later.

We had Train's Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) from 2001 re-entering in 2012. Surprised its not an eternal streaming chart favourite like Mr Brightside.

It's funny you mention both of them as they both peaked at #10 but didn't last long in the top 40 in their runs.

Drops of Jupiter is less shouty and less energetic, so it dorsn't get played as much at parties.

The Calling also re-entered in 2011 thanks to the Charlene cover and both versions of 'Wherever You Will Go' peaked at #3 too!

Of course last year also saw Miguel appear in the Top 10 with a single from 2010 (which I know is just outside the decade mentioned in this thread).

Morbid example but of course basically all of Amy Winehouse's hits from 2006-2007 re-entered in 2011 with a couple of them hitting new peaks (most notably 'Back To Black' finally getting the top 10 peak it deserved in the first place). And more recently 'Tears Dry On Their Own' was effectively charting again for a couple of weeks courtesy of Skepta's glorified remix.

Good and fair question.

I'm inclined to say yes. I do recall the song itself getting a bit of a resurgence. Though I may be remembering that wrong.

I'm not sure if that would count but then I didn't listen to the chart when it was in then so maybe it is or maybe it isn't. 🤷‍♂️

Elbow re-entered the chart in 2012 following the Olympics with 'One Day Like This' and got a high new peak!

As it's essentially a different titled song with different lyrics and its own separate chart entry, I'm inclined to say it doesn't count per se.
