September 26, 200915 yr Author 2 2 S Club Party S CLUB 7... not one of their better or more memorable songs, but a nice new-jack swing vibe (five years out of date) 3 3 Man I Feel Like A Woman! SHANIA TWAIN... horrible, as I said before... only two of her hits were decent IMHO - From This Moment On and Don't Be Stupid (only for it's guilty pleasure Rednex quality tho) 4 - Goin' Down MELANIE C... Spice Girl's first solo record, better than anything Geri was coming up with at this point, or that Posh would ever come up with, but a bit forgettable, if surprisingly punky 6 5 You Drive Me Crazy BRITNEY SPEARS... a fairly lame album track remixed with a huge dance break and another video with Brit in a short skirt, not too bad tho 9 - Sunshine GABRIELLE... MOR Radio 2 fodder, but not bad from her, nice touch of melancholy in the music and arrangement... not to be confused with Don't Need The Sun To Shine (To Make Me Smile) which oddly peaked at the same position two years later 10 - I Try MACY GRAY... Peaking at 6 for this 90s R&B classic from the lady with the squeaky voice... why does no-one ever do this on X-Factor? 11 - The Awakening YORK... Mellow trance from brothers Jörg Stenzel and Torsten Stenzel... their biggest hit came with a remake of Chris Rea's On The Beach the following year... 14 - New York City Boy PET SHOP BOYS... Neil and Chris channeling the Village People on one of their campest but best 90s hits 18 - Run For Your Life NORTHERN LINE... not a Beatles cover, but a terrible Backstreet Boys ripoff from an equally terrible Brit boyband, that had the unfortunate consequence of fostering Ziggy from Big Brother's celebrity career 19 - Liberation (Temptation - Fly Like An Angel) MATT DAREY pts. MASH UP... decent first try for British trance producer, better known for Beautiful with Marcella Woods, top 10 three years later, after just missing the top 20 in 2000 21 - Blue Skies LONGPIGS... don't really remember this, Sheffield indie band, 3 years after their biggest hit On And On... named after what cannibals call human flesh apparently! 22 - Zorba's Dance LCD... Second time around for this (terrible) eurodance remix of the famous greek folk tune... the computer generated video pronounced the group the world's first "Digital Supergroup", but it was actually the brainchild of producer David Kemoun 24 - For All That You Want GARY BARLOW... last solo hit to date for the (debatably) most talented Take That guy, originally released in 1998 in the US only as Superhero with different lyrics... very Max Martin sounding 25 - Heaven Will Come SPACE BROTHERS... Second to last top 40 hit from british trance duo Richard Louis Simmonds & Stephen Christopher Jones with female vocalist Kate Cameron... slightly dull tbh 29 - Do We Rock POINT BREAK... no you don't! See Northern Line really... slightly more Five, with a dull generic rap, and what sounds like an Oasis sample (but isn't) 32 18 Under The Water BROTHER BROWN ft. FRANK'EE... Danish house duo getting their only UK top 40 hit... Quite an interesting track, with an oddly Bjorkish vocal from Marie Franka aka Frank'ee 33 14 Higher Than Heaven KELLE BRYAN... former member of R&B girl group Eternal, her only official solo single, nice gospel influence, but otherwise forgettable 35 - Universal Nation '99 PUSH... instrumental trance from Belgian DJ Mike Dierickx, a man with over 50 known production aliases! The Ferry Corsten remix was the UK hit 36 16 Thursday's Child DAVID BOWIE... from his album Hours, quite forgotten, but a nice song. Originally written for his video game Omikrin. He didn't have another top 20 hit for 7 years 38 - Mercury And Solace BT... more trance from US producer Brian Transeau. Appropriate name! His biggest UK hit, but 1996's Embracing The Sunshine and Loving You More were club hits (and better)... later produced NSync's Pop and composed numerous film soundtracks 46 - Angel TINA COUSINS... Australian eurodance diva, most famous for 1998's Mysterious Times with Sash, she's still going today, having recently released a flop cover of Sex On Fire 47 - Holding On DJ MANTA... not one DJ, but two! Belgians Gaston Steenkist and Rene ter Horst, also known as Chocolate Puma (remember "I Wanna Be U"), Jark Prongo ("Movin' Thru Your System") and Rene Et Gaston amongst others... 50 - I Feel Good Things For You DADDY'S FAVOURITE.... An early looped house track, sliughtly ahead of it's time to make it big, but nice... Producer James Harrigan sampling Patrice Rushen's "Haven't You Heard" And today in 1999: 1999, Leftfield went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'Rhythm And Stealth'. (Good album). 1999, The Times published the most powerful people in the UK pop business, No.5 Jim Moir, controller Radio 2, No.4, The UK Top 40 chart, No.3 Paul Berger, chairman, Sony Music, No.2 Edger Bronfman, chairman. Seagram, No.1 Ken Berry, President EMI Music. (Sad to think that the UK Top 40 was so influential back then compared to where we are now, although how that's a person...) 1999, The Dixie Chicks went to No.1 on the US album chart with 'Fly.'
September 26, 200915 yr OMG! That is one of the worst charts in history! It's even got that Ziggy from BB9 in Northern Line. Absolutely woeful.
September 27, 200915 yr 'goin down' was imho easily mel c 's best track, i couldnt stand her whiney voice. twas pseudo-heavy though... no real substance 'i try' was abit of a classic of the time in as much that it was pretty unique and stood out. 'universal nation' was BRILLIANT! i like PUSH 'strange world' being my fav PUSH track...
September 28, 200915 yr Author Today in 1999: All Saints had their hands cast for the 'Wall of Hands' exhibit at Madame Tussaud's Rock Circus in London. Big deal :kink:
September 29, 200915 yr Author Today in 1999: 1999, receivers were called in to concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith's empire after suffering losses on a series of shows. Goldsmith was awarded the MBE after his work on Live Aid. 1999, The Manic Street Preachers were given a bill for £28.000 after smashing up equipment during their show at Scotland's T In The Park festival. Rawk 'n' rooooooooooooll
October 1, 200915 yr Author Today in 1999: 1999, singer Lena Zavaroni died aged 35 after a long battle against anorexia. Zavoroni was discovered on TV talent show Opportunity Knocks, in 1974 she became the youngest British singer to earn a silver disc with 'Ma He's Making Eyes At Me' and the youngest person to appear on TV's Top of the Pops I didn't know that, so young :snif: Something's gotta be wrong there though, or she was 1 when she entered Opportunity Knocks

October 4, 200915 yr Author Yeah I just can't count, sorry :/ New chart soon, in the meantime today in 1999: 1999, it was reported that the sister of Jimi Hendrix was planning to exhume her brothers body and move it to a pay-to view mausoleum. Other plans for the new site included a chance for fans to buy one of burial plots around the guitarist's new resting-place. Anyone know if that happened? Money-grabbing bitch :kink:

October 4, 200915 yr Author 1 66 Genie In A Bottle CHRISTINA AGUILERA.... peroxide blonde Britney-esque pop from before she got interesting, seems incomprehensible how much she would change by the second album though 2 - 2 Times ANN LEE... Summer holiday euro-dance from Italy-based Sheffield girl Annerley (no I don't think that's her real name either) Gordon. Supposedly the voice of Whigfield, how's that for a claim to fame  4 - Jesse Hold On B*WITCHED... poor opening single from C'est La Vie girl's second album, weird country influence to it, banjo a go-go. They only had enough mileage to get a second single from this era, and then out 5 - Give It To You JORDAN KNIGHT... ex-knob, I mean NKOTB, member, not with the greatest voice but with a summery video and a kind of proto Justin Timberlake sound, it was surely going to hit 11 - I Saved The World Today EURYTHMICS... nice if somewhat MOR comeback single from Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox, both veritable music legends 12 - Forever CHARLATANS... not one of Tim Burgess and co's most immediately memorable, although it's still used as background music in numerous TV shows, nice melancholic 60s vibe 15 - Everything My Heart Desires ADAM RICKITT... possibly WORSE than his terrible debut single I Breathe Again, this was bought almost exclusively by gay men :kink: 17 - Just Like Fred Astaire JAMES... a band unfairly reduced to a one hit wonder by time, they're much better than just Sit Down.... not going to lie and say I've listened to it everyday since released, but hearing it again, it sounds good. Once took a technical support call from Tim Booth, actually! 25 - Stay With Me Till Dawn LUCID... Nice trancy version of Judie Tzuke's 1979 hit, a big club hit both this year, and the following 28 - Gimme All Your Lovin' 2000 MARTAY ft. ZZ TOP... hip-house remake of ZZ Top's most remembered hit, fairly terrible, at least Martay disappeared into obscurity 31 - B With U JUNIOR SANCHEZ ft. DAJAE... Good if slightly generic filtered house track with soulful female vocal... no relation of Roger AFAIK 33 - Alive HELIOTROPIC ft. VERNA V.... decent if floptastic trance, with Matt Darey twiddling the knobs 42 - Ain't No Sunshine LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO... A couple of years after a soup advert brought them to UK prominence, they take on Bill Withers with the help with an uncredited Des'Ree with their typical harmonies... borders on the silly IMHO

October 25, 200915 yr Author 3 65 Don't Stop ATB... Follow up to the number 1 trance anther 9pm (Till I Come)... virtually identical tbh, pitch bent guitar and all 5 - After The Love Has Gone STEPS... not one of their best, but as an ABBA fan they were a MAJOR guilty pleasure for me... starts off as a cross between Chiquitita and The Winner Takes It All 6 - Going Underground / Carnation BUFFALO TOM / LIAM GALLAGHER / STEVE CRADDOCK... surprisingly nice (though totally forgotten) Jam cover from the album Fire and Skill: The Songs of the Jam. Surprisingly BT's only UK hit 7 - Never Let You Down HONEYZ... frankly quite mediocre R&B from British attempt at Destiny's Child... I used to really like them for some reason tho 13 - Wonderland 911... nothing like as crap as this lot though. How the hell did they last 4 albums? Total ear-rape 16 - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad MOBY... First top 20 hit from the huge selling Play album, where every single track was licensed for a TV ad somewhere around the world... pretty good, though I can't really say why I like it... South Side was my fav, especially the Gwen Stefani remix, and Honey... 21 - Out Of Control CHEMICAL BROTHERS... decent trance-ish electronica with Bernard Sumner of New Order and Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream... still no Star Guitar tho. 22 - On The Run BIG TIME CHARLIE... mashup of Inner Life's version of Ain't No Mountain High Enough and Ecstasy Passion And Pain's Touch And Go... the second you'll probably know from JX - Son Of A Gun... 23 - New Day WYCLEF JEAN feat BONO... uncommonly conscious by his standards, nice african jazz vibe and lyrics much better than "just cos she dances go-go, it don't make her a ho, no" 25 - Diving Faces LIQUID CHILD... Decent melodic trance out of Germany in the Blank And Jones/York/Lange mould... Ibeefah anthem natch 35 - World In Union SHIRLEY BASSEY / BRYN TERFEL... anthem of the Rugby World Cup 1999... partly sung in Welsh, well who can blame them? Maybe it's cos I'm not really a sports fan, but I always find it difficult to get excited about this stuff... 36 - Cowboy KID ROCK... early stuff from the one time Mr Pamela Anderson... OK track, definitely more acceptable than All Summer Long... 44 - You Must Go On BERNARD BUTLER... didn't remember this at all, decent enough song though. Ex of Suede of course, though I liked him better with his friend McAlmont 47 - Misery THE MOFFATTS... last UK hit from a band that were promoted as the Canadian Hanson... not really fair though, this song is quite mature and listenable, certainly no Mmmmbop 50 - Music Is The Answer DANNY TENAGLIA... deep house anthem from one of the pioneers of the scene, loved it at the time, though sounds kind of dated now 1 - Flying Without Wings WESTLIFE... :puke2: Nuff said. 3 57 If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time R. KELLY... not a big fan of Mr Kelly, but this was a good track, took off in Europe before here if I remember rightly, kind of sounds like a soul song from the 60s 5 - Larger Than Life BACKSTREET BOYS... somewhat rehashed Max Martinesque boyband pop, they did worse though 9 - Bug A Boo DESTINY'S CHILD... whereas this was probably their worst. Very very annoying song, seemingly about pagers. 2000 and late 10 - When The Heartache Is Over TINA TURNER... produced by Brian Rawling & Mark Taylor aka Metro who were responsible for Diana Ross (see below) and Cher's contemporary material. Good in a radio-friendly dance pop way 11 - In And Out Of My Life ONEPHATDEEVA... mashup of Adeva's song of the same title and Fatboy Slim's Right Here Right Now. Shouldn't work, but (sort of) does 14 - Ain't That A Lot Of Love SIMPLY RED... unlike R Kelly, this actually was a 60s song, even if it doesn't sound like one... written by Homer Banks, and performed by Taj Mahal at The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus in 1968 16 - What'cha Gonna Do ETERNAL... final single from what had now become a due of Estelle and Vernie Bennet, free of Redknapps and Bryans... Not bad though, certainly better than the Honeyz NE last week 21 - Learn To Fly FOO FIGHTERS... brilliantly funny video from What Dave Grohl Did Next... Decent track but not really my thing 26 - If You Ever Leave Me BARBRA STREISAND / VINCE GILL... dull balladry from the IMHO overrated Ms Streisand, and US country singer who got his only UK hit this way 30 - She's So High TAL BACHMAN... Scandalous. Amazing song, from son of Randy Bachman of Bachamn Turner Overdrive, and this was it's peak :( Still, got more exposure five years later, when World Idol winner Kurt Nilsen took it five places higher, and made it a huge European hit 31 - Symetry C BRAINCHILD... more German trance, although this time with a little breakbeat thing going on courtesy of Lange. Decent again, but totally forgettable. 32 - Feel The Same TRIPLE X... this is much better. Funky house sampling Brit funksters Delegation. Chris Willis - Supersonic did it better but with less success. 38 - Swing Low '99 RUSSELL WATSON... another Rugby anthem, starts off slow, then goes unexpectedly Sash! Good voice, but I like him better when he's chanelling Rod Stewart (see Where My Heart Will Take Me...) 40 - Bailamos M3... not an Enrique cover, but more nice melodic trance courtesy of Matt Darey 44 - I Will Go With You DONNA SUMMER... a cover of believe it or not Time To Say Goodbye by Sara Brightman and Andrea Bocelli with a new english lyric. Flopped here, but her biggest US hit in years 46 - Hangin' Around COUNTING CROWS... No Mr Jones or even an Accidentally In Love... Decent enough US alt-rock 1 - Keep On Movin' FIVE... probably their best remembered song now, and one of their best. Breezy indie-styled pop 5 - Heartbreaker MARIAH CAREY... not one of her most memorable, bit of a rehash of Fantasy overall but again decent. The video featured a cute cartoon segment... 9 - Not Over You Yet DIANA ROSS... very much in the Cher pop-house mold of the time, not one of her greatest, not one of her worst either, Take Me Higher is her best 90s song IMHO 12 - Jump'n'Shout BASEMENT JAXX... again, not one of their greatest, certainly no Where's Your Head At... vocals by MC Slarta John, from their Remedy album 15 - Buddy X 99 DREAM TEEM vs NENEH CHERRY... UK garage remix of flop single from Homebrew, Ms Cherry's second album, sounds incredibly dated now, but Neneh provides a touch of class 17 - You'll Be In My Heart PHIL COLLINS... from the soundtrack of the Disney film Tarzan, winner of the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Original song. It's good considering it's a ) Disney and B) Phil. He recorded the whole soundtrack in five languages :o 21 - Dov'e L'Amore CHER What was I saying about Cher? :kink: I'm rather a fan actually, though turning this song from a pleasant Spanish guitar led ballad to an Emilio Estefan Jnr produced Miami Sound Machine ripoff was pointless tbh 23 - Love Like A Fountain IAN BROWN... Totally forgot this one... Nice dancy vibe, almost a throwback to his Stone Roses days, though how he's meant to drive that car at the beginning of the video with the sun in his eyes is anyone's guess :heehee: 25 - Closing Time SEMISONIC... Second hit for alt-rock two hit wonders. Always liked this better than Secret Smile actually 26 - Still Believe SHOLA AMA... I totally forgot this too. Really nice pop-dance-RnB from a very talented singer... Wonder why she's disappeared off the face of the earth... 29 - When My Baby SCOOCH... the first hit (if you can call it that) for the group that made Steps sound cheap  I was a fan of Steps at the time, but still thought this lot were terrible, right up until the Eurovision disaster :snif: 32 - Guerilla Radio RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE... never really rated this band, but listening to it again, this is a pretty good in a hardcore Beastie Boys way :) 35 - Heaven Scent BEDROCK... nice UK (I think?) trance/progressive... ahead of it's time 39 - Seven Cities SOLAR STONE... Dutch (I think again) trance, decent track, but not that interesting 42 - No Other Baby PAUL McCARTNEY... Decent song from Macca. The original is by the skiffle band The Vipers featuring children's favourite Wally Whytton 44 - Johnny The Horse MADNESS... Decent enough song from the group that flopped like most of their latter day material... The lyrics were about the plight of the homeless and all profits went to Shelter. Good guys :)

November 1, 200915 yr Author This week in 1999... 1 - Lift Me Up GERI HALLIWELL... frankly $h!te ballad from the Spice formally known as Ginger, I actually don't mind her, but her uptempo stuff was better 2 - What I Am TIN TIN OUT ft. EMMA BUNTON... an all-spice top 2! It's a while since this happened... Reasonable cover (well, better than the above) of Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians 5 - Waiting For Tonight JENNIFER LOPEZ... Probably my favourite single of hers, classy europop (no, that's not an oxymoron) with a cute millenium-themed video 6 - Bomb Diggy ANOTHER LEVEL... mediocre R&B with "the" Dane Bowers... clever, Blade Runner influenced post apololyptic video 10 - I Knew I Loved You SAVAGE GARDEN... wet balladry (as to be expected) from the Australian Lighthouse Family... Darren Hayes solo career was definitely more interesting, though I like Affirmation 14 - Turn It Around ALENA... had totally forgot this, very nice tribal house/trance crossover 15 - Bullet In The Gun PLANET PERFECTO... Paul Oakenfold ripping off the currently popular Matt Darey sound at the time with a couple of mates, Merle Forbes on vocals, always thought it was Sonique or Barbara Roy... 16 - Heads High MR. VEGAS... dancehall reggae, not my thing tbh 18 - Hooligan EMBRACE... totally forgot about this, fairly enjoyable by their standards, well, untill the zither break 28 - I Need To Know MARC ANTHONY... salsa R&B crossover from future Mr Jennifer Lopez. Well, it was better than Gigli 30 - Don't Call Me Baby MADISON AVENUE... first time out the box for this massive dance chart topper the following year, great track, sampling Pino D'Angio's italo classic Ma Quale Idea (no, not McFadden and Whitehead) 36 - Karaoke Queen CATATONIA... slightly funky, but also rather terrible latterday single from Cerys and chums 38 - Gin Soaked Boy DIVINE COMEDY... No Becoming More Like Alfie, but less annoying than National Express 46 - Glory Of The 80s TORI AMOS... Not the highpoint of Tori's career, though I agree the 80s were glorious  50 - Rescue Me SUNKIDS... not a Fontella Bass cover, but some nice soulful house that would never get anywhere near this high in the charts now :(
November 1, 200915 yr sorry but how can Seven Cities not be interesting? Its one of the defining trance songs of 1999, a classic :)
November 1, 200915 yr I still listen to Bomb Diggy and I Knew I Loved You quite often, both are good :P I bought both Don't Call Me Baby and Bullet In The Gun on single, well eventually, when they both got re-released the following year  I remember first (and only) time I heard Don't Call Me Baby on that chart show I thought to myself 'this is too good to flop this hard' and then I didn't hear it again until the following year!
November 1, 200915 yr As much as I don't like Westlife, I think 'Flying Without Wings' is their best single, few of the songs I "loved" from them. :) 5 - Heartbreaker MARIAH CAREY - I don't like this. Boring. LOL Also, I agree about Mushyrob about the Foo Fighters song. :) Edited November 1, 200915 yr by I Am FM11
