Right-o, I'm only going to comment on the new entries even though I only commented on the Top 50 last week.

19 ne Don't Let Me Down Gently - WONDER STUFF Just saw this lot during the summer and Goodness me did it take me right back. Great catchy pop song and their first Top 20 hit.

31 ne You Keep It All In - BEAUTIFUL SOUTH I always found this lot intensely annoying even though it was obvious Paul Heaton is a talented lyricist

32 ne Blues From A Gun - JESUS AND MARY CHAIN Despite being responsible for one of the great 80s albums (Psychocandy) this is starting to be a case of ever diminishing returns.

42 ne Rock Wit'cha - BOBBY BROWN Absolute pap. Dated late 80s romantic soul.

48 ne Nothin' But A Good Time - POISON I know this is tosh but I still have a soft spot for 80s hair metal and this is a prime example

50 ne Sueno Latino - SUENO LATINO Uses the sample that 808 State made famous in Pacific.

51 ne Bring It On Down - JESUS JONES From Liquidizer, their first album, much better than anything they did afterwards

57 ne Room In Your Heart - LIVING IN A BOX This was the maudlin ballad that inevitably followed the big hit

58 ne Facts Of Love - CLIMIE FISHER Corporate soft rock bollocks. Bloated and hideous.

65 ne Look Who's Dancing - ZIGGY MARLEY Has never been as good as his Dad or his brother, Damian

68 ne The Real Thing - ABC Disappointingly forgettable

69 ne Come & Get My Lovin' - DIONNE House effort that is actually quite good

73 ne House Energy Revenge - CAPPELLA Another house track but not as good as Dionne

Album chart 23/9/09

This week I decided to post the Top 10 and the new entries only as this might generate a bit of comment! And I have listened to most of these over the past week (Except for Roger Whittaker that is!) so I'll try to give some mini-reviews most weeks.

01 (ne) Eurythmics - We Too Are One How this leaden lumpen soft rock rubbish became only their 2nd number one album is really beyond me. Awful

02 (ne) The Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels Another Stones album basically indistinguishable from anything else they've released in the last 25 years

03 (ne) Aerosmith - Pump Aerosmith's best album after their Run DMC inspired comeback. Janie's Got A Gun should have been a hit over here.

04 (02) Gloria Estefan - Cuts Both Ways

05 (03) Jason Donovan - Ten Good Reasons

06 (ne) Elton John - Sleeping With The Past Elton used 60s soul as an inspiration for this and he's made great pop sound as bloodless as everything else he has recorded since the 70s so well done there

07 (01) Original Cast - Aspects Of Love

08 (07) Simply Red - A New Flame

09 (06) Imagination - Imagination

10 (09) Adeva - Adeva

new entries

38 Nanci Griffith - Storms Navel gazing singer-songwriter chaff with big 80s production

39 Roger Whittaker - Home Lovin' Man I would guess that this is more acoustic guitar and whistling

51 River Detectives - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning Well intentioned and earnest but ultimately rather forgettable Scottish folk/rock duo

58 Squeeze - Frank Couldn't find this so can't say if it is a good Squeeze album or not but apparently it has jools holland on it so I will be steering well clear.

Here's the new entries this week. Really varied bunch as usual with some overrated, some underrated and at least one out and out classic.

06 -- Drama - ERASURE Once you've heard one you've heard them all. The Status Quo of Electropop?

12 -- The Sensual World - KATE BUSH     ...Umm yes!

14 -- Sweet Surrender - WET WET WET This so terribly bland. Makes Erasure look like sonic pioneers

29 -- We Didn't Start The Fire - BILLY JOEL I cannot be impartial about this bloated hideous mess. And I haven't talked about the song yet. Sub Bob Dylan blatant copy bollocks

37 -- Road To Your Soul - ALL ABOUT EVE Every Goth's pin-up girl during the late 80s. I loved AAE and their hippy goth nonsense. Shame some idiot at ToTP robbed them of their greatest moment

54 -- Secrets - PRIMITIVES Perfect indie-pop group best known for Crash. This is lovely.

55 -- Sweet Invisibility - HUE & CRY Scottish soul pop duo. Now horribly dated.

60 -- The Real Wild House - RAUL ORELLANA Another italian (?) piano house track that somewhat bizarrely samples Iggy Pop!

63 -- Heaven's Here - HOLLY JOHNSON Rather limp effort from FGTH main man

65 -- Take It From Me - ROGER CHRISTIAN Oh God. So many awful late 80s soul tracks that went nowehere here. And here's another from ex-Christians singer

66 -- Girl I'm Gonna Miss You - MILLI VANILLI And who would have thought this piece of model fronted pop would have such consequences later. Still hate it though.

67 -- The Downtownlights - BLUE NILE Always critically acclaimed but they always went over my head.

68 -- WFL - HAPPY MONDAYS Indie dance floor classic and remix by Vince Clarke proved he still had some pop nous left. This track is BLOODY GENIUS!!!!!!

69 -- Crossroads - TRACY CHAPMAN Thoughtful folk pop but doesn't really set the pulse a-racing

71 -- Let The Day Begin - THE CALL Fairly typical US mid-tempo rocker aparently used by Al Gore as a theme song in 2000

Album charts 30/09/1989

01 ne Tina Turner - Foreign Affair

02 01 Eurythmics - We Too Are One

03 04 Gloria Estefan - Cuts Both Ways

04 ne Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814

05 03 Aerosmith - Pump

06 02 The Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels

07 05 Jason Donovan - Ten Good Reasons

08 15 Richard Marx - Repeat Offender

09 27 Madonna - Like A Prayer

10 08 Simply Red - A New Flame

13 ne The Alarm - Change

22 ne Dogs D'Amour - Errol Flynn

31 ne Spandau Ballet - Heart Like A Sky

37 ne Big Daddy Kane - It's A Big Daddy Thing

41 ne NWA - Straight Outta Compton

45 ne LA Guns - Cocked And Loaded

63 ne Melissa Etheridge - Brave And Crazy

At the time the Janet Jackson album was lauded as one of the first R&B albums to be concerned with social commentary. Funny, coz I thought Marvin gaye did that at least 18 years earlier.

Among the other new entries is an absolute landmark rap album that sounds just as powerful today. It's been said that it is one of the bleakest records ever and I would have to agree. I think morally bankrupt is an apt description. I also had a soft spot for those Faces/Stones copyist The Dogs D'Amour. Tyla sounded like he gargled with Jack Daniels then followed it with a bottle for breakfast.

great commentary m8... always good for a laugh!

dogs d'amour s drummer is now seen on tv as an antiques dealer... paul martin... (well he was with them at some time, not certain whether or not he was THE main drummer)

Thought I'd diversify a little bit.

I came across an old film chart that I thought might be interesting.

So here's the Top 10 films from the end of September 1989

1 NEW Dead Poets Society

2 NEW Young Einstein

3 Lethal Weapon 2

4 NEW Star Trek V The Final Frontier

5 NEW K 9

6 NEW Shirley Valentine

7 See No Evil Hear No Evil

8 NEW The Bear

9 NEW The Abyss

10 NEW Sex Lies And Videotape

Some of these are bloody awful (K-9, Star trek V) but Shirley Valentine was an absolute gem of a film. And I love Sex, Lies and Videotape. Saw that in a double bill with When Harry Met Sally TWICE. See No Evil was a Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder flick that was ok but I have never got into the Lethal Weapon films at all. Dead Poets I thought was great at the time but I would have to see it again as it's been so long since I saw it.

ive only watched 'the abyss', not into films me...

im going to post tv listings when i find one available for the date...
