Posted September 16, 200915 yr 'Greatest drummer' Graham dies, aged 69 Wednesday, September 16 2009, 16:06 BST By Mayer Nissim, Entertainment Reporter Session drummer Bobby Graham has died at the age of 69 after a four-month battle with stomach cancer. The musician reportedly played on over 15,000 records during his career, including 'Downtown' by Petula Clark, 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place' by The Animals, 'You Really Got Me' and 'All Day And All Of The Night' by The Kinks, and 'I Only Want To Be With You' by Dusty Springfield. A message from Graham on his website had read: "To all my friends and fans who have been trying to contact me during my illness, thank you very much for your concern and I will try to contact you all when I am feeling better." US producer Shel Talmy described Graham as "the greatest drummer the UK has ever produced", while his work has also drawn praise from former colleagues Ray and Dave Davies, Mike Berry and Marty Wilde among others. Graham, who had been diagnosed with cancer in April, died at the Isabel Hospice in Welwyn Garden City on Monday. September 16, 200915 yr I think that sums up the general attitude towards drummers and session drummers in particular. The name meant nothing to me either but I don't think I could name any session drummers.
September 22, 200915 yr It's a thankless role really, being a session drummer.... Well, a session musician in general, tbh..... Never heard of this guy either, which is a shame, because he was probably a technically brilliant percussionist, but because he wasn't in one of the "Big Bands" - your Beatles, Zeppelins, Sabbaths, Queens, etc, he never got any credit....... :(
