2026 WORLD CUP | General Discussion/ Collation
There is renewed speculation that the World Cup could be expanded to 64 teams. I'm guessing that the plan is to continue expanding it until Italy manage to qualify.

Murder investigation into death of Ann Widdecombe
The police have said that there is no evidence that there was a political motive in this awful murder. Naturally, that hasn't stopped Farage from portraying it as a political attack without offering any evidence whatsoever. The frog-faced fascist will never miss an opportunity to stir up hatred.

The Official Labour Thread: Live From M'cer (mk IV)
In an embarrassing cock-up, the Daily Mail front page for 22 July has been leaked. Under the headline "Burnham in major sleaze row" the story begins "New Prime Minister Andy Burnham faced increasing calls to quit last night as it was revealed that he received three Ready Salted crisps from an employee of a company which was later awarded a £10,000 contract by a Labour council."

Another record-breaking Rein Me In singles week, and also for Madonna on albums
Great Expectation? Charles Dicken would be spitting blood if he wasn't very dead. I look forward to hearing Bleak Shed, A Tale Of One City and The Pickwick Paper.

FIFA really don't help themselves, do they? Balogun gets a one-match ban which is effectively overturned after a phone call from Trump. Quansah gets a two-match ban, announced little more than 24 hours before the first of those games. leaving very little time for any sort of appeal (which apparently isn't allowed, unless the player is American). Make it make sense.

Friday Chart Predictions
At least Wonderwall is an English song, adopted by fans of the England football team. That's more than be said for Sweet bloody Caroline. I'd also much rather hear Wonderwall than Sweet Caroline. I'd be happy never to hear the latter song again.

By-elections 2024- (Part 2)
If Count Binface wins and resigns soon afterwards, there is nothing to stop Farage standing again, apart from the embarrassment of losing in the first place.

If Count Binface ended Farage's political career, that would be one of the funniest events in political history.

The Reform Gammons and Hot Air Ltd thread
Interesting choice by the Tories who could have thrown everything at the byelection in the hope of winning it and destroying Farage. They are right to say that it is a stunt, but only time will tell whether their risk pays off.

Portugal v Spain
It's not exactly been the match I was hoping for. I'm still expecting Infantino that he has the power to award Portugal a goal to keep Ronaldo in the tournament for longer.

Mexico v England
England's normal approach to a match like this would be to fly to Mexico City late, play the match, and leave. That is because the effects of the high altitude really start to kick in around day three. However, FIFA insist that the teams have to train in the stadium the day before the match, meaning that England have had to travel to Mexico City earlier than they would have liked. It also means that they will be getting close to the time when the effects really become a problem. It was less of a problem when Mexico were the only host country as all the teams had plenty of time to acclimatise. It is a much bigger problem this time. Host countries always have an advantage. That can't be helped, but this added advantage for Mexico is arguably blatantly unfair.

I've got 20 July off. It's the first day of the school holiday I've had some fun telling students that they get the following day off if England win
