April 24, 200916 yr http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?P...p;in_page_id=34 Pop stars' fortunes hit in crunch Thursday, April 23, 2009 Forget illegal downloads – it's the recession which could be the music industry's undoing. In a report likely to wipe the smug smile off Simon Cowell's face, it's been revealed Britain's top music stars have lost up to a quarter of their fortunes in the past year. Sir Elton John has seen 26 per cent knocked off his net worth, with his value plummeting from £238million to £175million. Robbie Williams has also felt the pinch, losing £25million of his £105million fortune. And proving that the recession cares little for taste, Sir Cliff Richard's value fell from £50million to £40million. Sir Tom Jones, Phil Collins, Engelbert Humperdinck and Amy Winehouse also all lost substantial sums in the economic storm. The figures were revealed in a list of the top 50 music millionaires, which was also published this time last year. The big losers were those who had a lot of money tied up in property or shares – both of which have been hit hard by the recession. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is included in this group, with falling investment values knocking £60million off his fortune. But each singer also had their own specific factors. Sir Elton gave away a large portion – £42million – of his income to charity while Amy Winehouse saw her fortune drop by £5million because she did little recording. Williams was particularly badly hit, said Ian Coxon, who compiled the list as part of the Sunday Times Rich List. 'Robbie Williams is run as a business and there has been a profit fall in 2007, so that's had a knock-on effect,' he said. 'He's never quite fulfilled the promise that he had a few years ago.' -_- Robbie just needs to bring out his new album, announce a tour, problem solved! He can make it up in no time!
