October 3, 200915 yr LOL oh my word I was just about to come in here and edit my post to a 'NEVERMIND' and then you quoted it. GAH. :hithead: I know their odds to win but the odds and qualifiers prediction threads look almost identical anyway, well from how I see it, so I meant to refer it in that way. And La Roux, Röyksopp, VV Brown are very much considered Indie BTW, even if they are more pop they're definitely leaps and bounds more Indie than the other winners. ;o And not only one or two Indie or Rock entries make it through every semi, that's what I meant by the underestimation. I'd say the typical BJSC Final is 3/4 pop and 1/4 indie with the exact same fractions in the semi finals. So rather than basing odds on language barriers, genres etc I'd rather do odds based on the pure quality of the song and how inspired it is. I don't think we've had an uninspired winner in the last BJSC era, so predicting entries with artists that have been entered for the 3rd/4th time or entries with artists that are currently running the charts globally to come so close to winning is a tad way-off, even if theyre obviously going to qualify, which is why I the odds are always so way-off and why so little are bothered in actually posting them. . Uh Huh Her and Beauitful Small Machines were inspired and won, unless you're talking about every song with either a female or hints of pop being cheap, and if so then they both fall into this category :heehee: I can't imagine many people here knew the songs already, and neither act were either global stars or had ever been entered before... I love the contests when I send non pop-females as I love to see if I can be that one country that can squeeze a male act into the top ten (a la Sound Of Arrows/Andreas Johnson), although usually it completely fails (Example/Vincent), plus I'd get absolutely sick of sending female pop every single month...I know my entry this month would only win the BJSC in a parallel universe or when he swaps his gender over but it's always fun seeing the people that do like and support it in the end, which if it turns out anything like Example, wasn't many at all :heehee: It's always more satisfying to do well with a song that you and nobody else had fancied to do well, rather than one that had been at the top of the odds from start to finish...every contest has it's Stanfour's, Camille's, Ladytron's etc and few people's odds are ever accurate... to Aaron though - I can't see Soul Survivor DNQ'ing when in my opinion you've had far weaker qualifiers in the past, it's a very classy, decent song which would have come top 5 easily in the 'first era'...I'm personally still expecting top 20 in the final for it with an outside chance of top ten :o
October 3, 200915 yr I don't think it's because it's indie they are near the bottom. It might be that they ain't that good.. So most of them 'ain't that good' then? That doesn't make sense actually. There's no objective definition of 'ain't good', it's only down to a person to decide if it's good or not.

I suppose it's far from the indie dominated semi, but I can't pick out many people who are likely to vote for it. If Lorikeet, Torchwood, FSR Rontvia and Ashton were in my semi I might feel a bit safer, I think you've all said you like it. Personally I think it's not world's apart from the sort of sound Alcazar have, this is just soul diva-camp, rather than BJSC-popular schlager-camp. I'd fully expect it to finish top 5 if Alcazar covered it. :(

Plus Beautiful Night, which is arguably far less BJSC friendly (read; less camp) managed to qualify out of a semi so I think this has a good chance
October 3, 200915 yr I hope Soul Survivor makes it! :o! I actually like 100%, the album. :D it has some great songs on it, but also a lot of filler, so it didn't hold my interest for too long :( Soul Survivor's one of the definite stand outs though
October 3, 200915 yr I hope Soul Survivor makes it! :o! I actually like 100%, the album. :D YAY good. You're gonna go see her live, in Norwich, aren't you? :) Now that would be something :kink: Something...terrible/awful/criminal? Yes, it would. It sounds perfect for them but I'd hate it, it's all about Bev. I bet there were loads of people that voted for Black Butta that you wouldn't have expected to though! Plus Beautiful Night, which is arguably far less BJSC friendly (read; less camp) managed to qualify out of a semi so I think this has a good chance True, didn't expect people to see the brilliance of that and the reason I sent this was because on paper it's equally as perfect for BJSC. I'm just not expecting it to make it now, I think "Beautiful Night" only scraped through a slightly easier looking semi. it has some great songs on it, but also a lot of filler, so it didn't hold my interest for too long :( Soul Survivor's one of the definite stand outs though Bev doesn't do filler! :(
October 3, 200915 yr Bev doesn't do filler! :( maybe not to diehard fans, but I'm sure I'd say the same about Delta, when it quite blatantly isn't the case for either artist :heehee:
October 3, 200915 yr it has some great songs on it, but also a lot of filler, so it didn't hold my interest for too long :( Soul Survivor's one of the definite stand outs though The first half/ three quarters of the album is amaze! (minus 100%) YAY good. You're gonna go see her live, in Norwich, aren't you? :) Aha, is there still tickets? I may actually force someone to come watch her with me :D :P I refuse to go alone though :(! Come watch her in Norwich Aaron, if you love her that much!
October 3, 200915 yr maybe not to diehard fans, but I'm sure I'd say the same about Delta, when it quite blatantly isn't the case for either artist :heehee: True, I'm not sure if it's months of overplaying, but I've decided that "Every Step" now sounds a bit fillerish and maybe "Painted Pony" (though I love it) But why would she write filler? :drama: The first half/ three quarters of the album is amaze! Come watch her in Norwich Aaron, if you love her that much! Shh that title track is amaze! :o Surprisingly enough, her tickets don't sell out like hotcakes! I'd actually go but it's too far and expensive, force someone along. CONVERT THEM. ^_^

CONVERT THEM. ^_^ Oh shush, it's not that great  'In Your Shoes' is  best song to be a single imo. Although 'Beautiful Night' is gorgeous and definately the best song on the album. Oh do they not? :P  ... Oh do it! :D! Aha, I'll tryyy! ;o

CONVERT THEM. ^_^ :heehee: I guess some artists are so blinded by their own love of a song that they completely forget to realise that it lacks anything distinctive or interesting, hence making it filler...of Delta's back catalogue, I'd call Running Away and Miscommunication 'filler' and those two songs are from two of my all time favourite albums Every Step isn't that bad, it's a bit like an old Eternal single...none in particular, just the general sound and feel of the track

Aha, I'll tryyy! ;o It is, the production. Looks like you agree with the single choices then. ^_^ No. <_< (srs face) Pay for my train ticket(s) and I'd consider it. (though I'm seing her like...3 days before the Norwich date) Just get them to the show, Bev will do the rest of the work. :heehee: I guess some artists are so blinded by their own love of a song that they completely forget to realise that it lacks anything distinctive or interesting, hence making it filler...of Delta's back catalogue, I'd call Running Away and Miscommunication 'filler' and those two songs are from two of my all time favourite albums Every Step isn't that bad, it's a bit like an old Eternal single...none in particular, just the general sound and feel of the track True, I guess there's writing something personal to you and then there's writing something that could be a hit, it can be hard to do both. Yeah, it was produced by Jam & Lewis who haven't been big since the 90s, they did a lot of Janet Jackson's material from that period. Umm...yeah get posting odds guys. (and me :()
October 4, 200915 yr True, I guess there's writing something personal to you and then there's writing something that could be a hit, it can be hard to do both. Yeah, it was produced by Jam & Lewis who haven't been big since the 90s, they did a lot of Janet Jackson's material from that period. Umm...yeah get posting odds guys. (and me :() completely agree, it's often the more lyrically dark or personal songs on album's that tend to end up sounding like filler as if you throw in some 'hit melody' it can cheapen the mood of the song a bit...I know I'm biased but there are a ton of songs on Delta's Mistaken Identity song that are both very personal (it's the record she wrote whilst recovering from cancer) but also have brilliant melodies, so it can be done :heehee: on the other hand I can think of hundreds of personal songs from artists that lack any sort of tune...maybe they should release deluxe sets of 1 disc of hits and 1 book of poetry and put all of their feelings into that instead :w00t: yeah, I can tell, it definitely sounds very mid-90's...it's a shame that some producers get stuck with a particular sound which they use forever...unless he develops his sound very soon, RedOne's novelty is going to wear off incredibly quickly
