63. Jewel-Down So Long

http://www.soundart.com/jewlshow.JPG

Year: 1999

Chart Run: 1-2-4

Info: So we finally reach the song that was the first ever to top my chart as it debuted straight in at the top slot (obviously). American singer songwriter Jewel had huge hits at home with classics like You were meant for me and Hands. Down so long made the top 40 in the UK...

Reason I love it: A great introduction to my charts history and a song I never get bored of. A folksy ballad with gritty lyrics and a complete contrast to the cheesy dance I liked back in the day. She has had many other hits in my chart, with Doin' Fine climbing as high as No.3 in 2003...

62. Tanel Padar & Dave Benton-Everybody

http://www.re-played.com/images/tn_Padar_Tanel_Dave_Benton_-_Everybody.jpg

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 5-1-1-5-4-5

Info: Universally despised Eurovision winners Tanel and Dave hailed from Estonia and Aruba respectively and shockingly won it for Estonia. I always thought that the song was extremely catchy and stood out above all others but most were shocked at the win...

Reason I love it: Just a fantastic feel good tune and in my eyes one of the best winners ever of the contest. Not a style of music I would ususally like, I just fell in love with the melody and the harmonies of this song which led to it spending a fortnight at the top of my chart!!!

61. Avi + Nat-Together

http://www.cedmagic.com/disc-manufacturing/17-random-testing.jpg

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 3-2-2-2-3-3-4-4-5

Info: Such an unknown song that I may have well just as made it up. It appeared on a Smash Hits free CD in 2001 and was by a UK female duo named Avi + Nat. The song Together was later covered by S Club Juniors who named their debut album after it...

Reason I love it: Just a perfect pop song its catchy, uplifting and has great sentiment which was unfortunately ruined by S Club Juniors...the song spent an impressive 9 consecutive weeks in my top 5 in early 2001...

60. KT Tunstall-Suddenly I See

http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/var/news/storage/images-versioned/91370/2-eng-GB/who_is_kt_tunstall2_medium.jpg

Year: 2005

Chart Run: 4-5-5-2-4-R-1-5-5

Info: My star of 2005, what I thought would remain an album track had a five week top 5 run in february last year before being unleashed as a monster single (though one that oddly never made the UK top 10) and storming back to top my chart in August!!!

Reason I love it: A standout on KT's sublime debut album the introduction launches into some suggestive lyrics and KT's great voice and melody. The fact that the song won the ivor novello award for best song musically and lyrically says it all really...

59. The Cardigans-Erase/Rewind

http://www.cardifans.com/images/cardigansnov99.jpg

Year: 1999

Chart Run: N/A

Info: Swedish indie groups big No.7 UK hit from early 1999. One of many anthems from the seminal Gran Turismo album it unofficially spent 4 weeks at my No.1 spot in March 1999 before I started making note of the chart...

Reason I love it: From the great moody introduction to the slow lyrics and melody which go into a rocky chorus, everything about this song is excellent. One of my more respectable favourites from 1999, they had further hits in my chart with Hangin' Around (No.1) and Don't blame your daughter (No.6)

58. Kim Lukas-Let it be the night

http://www.webdjs.ch/specials/kim_lukas2.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 1-3

Info: First of two songs in the rundown from little known UK singer Kim Lukas. She was quite big in Europe with her own brand of Europop and this was her second single...she also released a fairly successful album in Europe...

Reason I love it: I was in love with Kim at the time (early 2000) and the moment I heard this catchy piece of cheesy Europop it stormed into my chart at No.1...it quickly left the chart but I still love the song now!!!

57. Love Inc-You're A Superstar

http://www.singleminded.com/label_img/00270.jpg

Year: 2002

Chart Run: 2-3-5-2-1-1-1-5-4-5

Info: Simone and Chris were better known as Love Inc and had two top 10 hits in the UK in 2002 with their Sash-like 90's dance which came out in their native Canada in 1998. Broken Bones and this song You're A Superstar both topped my chart...

Reason I love it: I love 90's dance and though this song was out in 2002 it was in essence...90's dance. Simone has gorgeous vocals and the production of this track, in particular the extended mix was sublime. A great song to finish 2002/start 2003 with!!!

56. Nerina Pallot-Everybody's gone to war

http://madamejojos.com/i/gallery/Image/ONE%20OFF/np_web01.jpg

Year: 2006

Chart Run: 2-1-1-2-1-1-3-2-4-5

Info: One of my stars of 2006, and brilliant and very diverse live, Nerina's anthem Everybody's gone to war stalled outside the top 10 in the UK but reached my top spot for 4 weeks. Her album Fires spent 6 weeks at No.1 on my chart

Reason I love it: From the thundering introduction to the perfect vocals and thoughtful lyrics, this really blew all other songs out of the water in may and is the third highest song from 2006 in the chart...I heard this song in early 2005 but for some reason had always assumed it was Sheryl Crow...

55. ATB-Don't Stop

http://img.mp3spy.ru/images/2005080318183112250_1.jpg

Year: 1999

Chart Run: 2-4-4-R-4-4-2-2-2-1-5

Info: One of Andre Tanneberger's finest moments this is one of three songs in the top 100 for the super German DJ. Sounding like 9PM backwards, this fine song sold 90,000 copies in its first week to reach No.3 in the UK...

Reason I love it: Same reason I love 9PM, great melody and very catchy simple dance tune. I prefer the German radio edit to the more harsh sounding UK radio edit and it at the time took a while to reach No.1 spending 4 weeks in 2nd place before finally topping the chart...

54. Alice Deejay-Will I Ever

http://www.lyricsvault.net/halloffame/alicedeejay.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 1-R-4-1-3-3-1-1-4-5

Info: The first of 5 songs in the 100 best songs ever for the Dutch supertrio consisting of producers Pronti and Kalmani and singer Judy Pronk along with other members along the way such as Mila, Yutin and Angel...Will I ever was their third UK top 10 hit in summer 2000...

Reason I love it: Just a great great eurodance song that brightened up summer 2000, it was much more poppy than their first two singles and I still know every single word of the song now. Great fun, it notched up four non-consecutive weeks at the top of my chart...their 5 singles in total managed 22 weeks at the top...more from them later!!!

53. Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink and Lil' Kim-Lady Marmalade

http://awards2001.homestead.com/files/mtvma01_ladymarmalade_5.5x3.8_markjterrill_ap.jpg

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 4-3-3-1-2-1-1-4

Info: The highest placing song for all 4 acts in this chart, it was the soundtrack to the massive 2001 film Moulin Rouge. A cover of a classic song by LaBelle (also covered by All Saints), the song made No.1 in the UK and topped my chart for 3 weeks!!!

Reason I love it: Everything about this song works. The fine production from Missy Elliot, the great introduction and rapping from Lil' Kim, the contrasting sweet and harsh vocals of Mya and Pink and the powerhouse of Christina made this song legendary...sublime...

52. DHT feat Edmee-Listen to your heart

http://tvhipster.com/img/dht-seventeen.jpg

Year: 2005

Chart Run: 2-2-5-4-4-1-1-1-2-4-5

Info: I often close out a year with a huge dance song and in 2005 it was the turn of Belgian outfit DHT (Dance, House, Trance) whose brilliant cover of Roxette's 1990 hit Listen to your heart was turned into a trance stormer which reached No.7 in the UK and spent 11 weeks in my top 5...

Reason I love it: Its a classic track and the production on this track is great. Edmee's vocals are brilliant and the ballad version (which turned it into a US top 10 hit) really show how beautiful the track can be as well. I have never got bored of it and their album was fantastic too!!!

51. Sophie Ellis-Bextor-Murder on the dancefloor

http://www.infrarouge.fr/interviews/images/ellis_bextor.jpg

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 4-1-1-3-4-5-4-4-5

Info: A pop dance song with effortless class, the second solo single for Sophie Ellis-Bextor (of theaudience and Spiller fame) was a huge No.2 hit for her in the UK and spent a fortnight at the top of my chart. Coupled with an excellent and memorable video it hung around the charts for ages...

Reason I love it: A sparkling introduction leads to some great disco which is fun, catchy and melodic. It is in my opinion one of the most memorable pop-dance songs of the last 10 years and Sophie's unique vocal style really fit the theme of the song!!!

50. Delta Goodrem-Out of the blue

http://graphics.sonymusic.com.au/gallery/medium/DeltaGoodrem124.jpg

Year: 2004

Chart Run: 4-1-1-1-1-4

Info: A pleasant comeback from Delta as the first single from her second album Mistaken Identity. Fans have complained that the single was too weak to make a splash although it managed to make the UK top 10...it would have spent longer in my top 5 but was knocked out by all of her album tracks...

Reason I love it: I love the lyrics, and the melody and song have a very uplifting new beginning feel to them. Its a great singalong track and the track improves as it gets nearer the end. It does not deserve its criticism and starts of my top 50 best songs ever in style!!!

49. Kelly Clarkson-Since u been gone

http://www.mtv.com/bands/c/clarkson_kelly/flipbook_vma05/credit_John_Shearer/07.jpg

Year: 2005

Chart Run: 2-1-2-2-4-3-4-3

Info: A song that fit 2005 perfectly, it was a massive UK hit clocking up 7 weeks in the top 10 and providing her with her biggest hit, the American Idol winner also scored a million selling album Breakaway which peaked at No.3...the song spent 2 months in my top 5...

Reason I love it: The introduction flows into perfect verses which launch into a soaring chorus which is just amazing if you ever hear it sung live. This track is a fantastic singalong song as it is catchy and has spawned a whole number of copycat songs in the last 12 months. Sublime!!!

48. Daniel Powter-Bad Day

http://www.vh1.com/sitewide/flipbooks/img/artists/daniel_powter/live_at_2006/credit_Kristina_Sisti/flipbook_crops/02.jpg

Year: 2005

Chart Run: 5-R-5-1-1-1-1-2-2-4

Info: Seemingly a one hit wonder, he was always second best to James Blunt in 2005 but Bad Day ends up many places higher than You're Beautiful here. Showing that men can grab the top spot in my chart too this first entered the top 5 in May 2005 before returning for a lengthier stay...it sold well worldwide reaching No.1 in many countries including the US!!!

Reason I love it: The simple ballads are always the best and this song proves it. Daniels soft vocals complement the piano melody and everyday lyrics brilliantly. Its a song that everybody can relate to and is one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard...excellent!!!

47. Ann Lee-2 Times

http://www.eurodanceusa.com/artists/annlee_01small.jpg

Year: 1999

Chart Run: 3-4-3-R-1-3-R-1-1-2-3-5

Info: Remember this one...one of the 1990's last great Europop tracks, singer songwriter Annerley Gordon, who helped to write Corona's Rhythm of the Night sold over half a million singles with her own Euro offering 2 Times. Unfortunately only a one hit wonder, the song peaked at No.2 in the UK behind Christina Aguilera's debut single Genie in a Bottle...

Reason I love it: Just a great track if a little cheesy, the album was extremely poor in comparison as her sweet voice gets a little too much at times. This track has a great melody and is easy to remember (2 times..do do do do do...etc...). A real classic from late 1999!!!
