46. Denada-Love you anyway

http://www.qtm.net/~persot/garage/garage_6_26_2.JPG

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 3-3-4-4-4-1-4

Info: No picture for this minor hit from summer 2001 so a picture of a lovely garage here represents its musical genre. UK garage group Denada teamed up with MC Allister for this No.15 hit Love you anyway, a great happy pop/garage crossover. The follow up Bring it onto my love also made the UK top 30 :-)

Reason I love it: A really happy, catchy nice slice of summer pop with some irresistible garage and MCing. It was one of my top 10 of 2001 and it deserved to be a much bigger hit than No.15...it reached No.1 in my chart on a 7 week top 5 run!!!

45. Spiller feat Sophie Ellis-Bextor-Groovejet (If this ain't love)

http://www.raveordie.com/djarchiv/djimages/djspiller.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 3-1-1-1-3-1-5

Info: One of dance music's most famous songs, Italian 7 foot tall DJ Cristano Spiller took his creation Groovejet to Sophie Ellis-Bextor who with a number of skilled songwriters formed this perfect creation which in turn kept Victoria Beckham from No.1 in a highly publicised battle!!!

Reason I love it: From the sweeping down sound effect at the intro to the perfect backing track or Sohpie's gorgeous vocals, everything on this song just works...It was the smash hit of summer 2000 and still well loved to this day and the song spent 4 weeks at the top of my chart!!!

44. The Corrs-Forgiven Not Forgotten

http://www.zero.co.nz/music/images/The%20Corrs%20-%20Forgiven%20Not%20Forgotten.jpg

Year: 1995/1999

Chart Run: N/A

Info: The debut single from the one and only Corr family, the memorable and haunting ballad Forgiven Not Forgotten charts highly for the quartet here. The song never made the UK top 40 or my chart (as it was too early for inclusion) but is a song I think highly of...the parent album finally made No.2 in the UK in 1999 four years after release...

Reason I love it: A great start to their career, the piano works with the violin, the sad and meaningful lyrics and the eccentric video. All these pieces result in a near perfect song and one which was way ahead of its time as it still sounds fresh today...

43. Mariah Carey-We Belong Together

http://cache.eonline.com/Gossip/Fashion/Images2005/carey.mariah.042505.jpg

Year: 2005

Chart Run: 3-R-1-1-2-R-4-5-5

Info: 2005 saw an incredible comeback for written off diva Mariah Carey. After the brilliant It's Like That reached No.2 in my chart We Belong Together went all the way to No.1 and almost became her 3rd UK No.1 but peaked in 2nd place just a few hundred copies behind 2Pac & Elton John...

Reason I love it: A classic Mariah ballad, We Belong Together has lyrics that can be related to, classic production, great trademark warbling and high notes from Mariah and is just an anthemic piano ballad. She tried to emulate it in Don't Forget About Us, which also reached No.1 in the US!!!

42. Kelly Llorenna-Tell it to my heart

http://www.cannotfindserver.co.uk/clubbing/31-08/kelly06.jpg

Year: 2002

Chart Run: 1-1-R-5-2-2-1-1-5

Info: Another entry from the UK's best female singer...N-Trance singer Kelly had more success in her solo career with this cover of Taylor Dayne's Tell it to my heart. The song went to No.9 in the UK spending a month in the top 20 and was her first big solo single!!!

Reason I love it: 2002 was the year of chessy 80's trance covers and in my opinion this stood out from the pack. Kelly's powerhouse vocals stormed over a great Flip & Fill production and its a song that everyone knows!!! Excellent song which spent 4 weeks in total in my top spot!!!

41. Eiffel 65-Blue (Da Ba Dee)

http://www.scuolevaltiglione.it/mediamonteg/biocantanti3b/immagini/Eiffel%2065/eiffelalieno.jpg

Year: 1999

Chart Run: 1-2-2-1-1-3-4-R-2

Info: Italian DJ/Producers trio Eiffel 65 led by bald man Jeffrey Jay hit the big time in late 1999 with the infectious europop/dance single Blue (da ba dee). A song which featured an eccentric video with blue aliens, it was instantly infectious and sold over a million copies in the UK!!!

Reason I love it: From the memorable 'ch-ch-chooo' introduction which became their trademark sound on furture remixes, through the odd lyrcis and memorable eurobeat, Jeffrey Jey's gruff vocals stood out and made it an instant if quirky classic pop single...they had further No.1's in my chart with Too much of heaven and Living in a bubble :-)

40. Mariah Carey feat Joe & 98 Degrees-Thank God I Found You

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/700000/images/_702378_carey_300.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 2-1-1-2-4

Info: Starting the 40 best songs of my life off in style in true diva form its the highest song for Mariah. A forgotten classic, it was a US No.1 but could only manage No.10 in the UK. An uplifting ballad featuring sould star Joe and boyband 98 Degrees its in my eyes Mariah's finest moment!!!

Reason I love it: The lyrics are sweet and the music is nice but the way that Mariah and Joe fit together with the harmonies of 98 Degrees make this classic song stand out for me...it was the last hit for her before her 'breakdown' and a well deserved US No.1. The remixes were fantastic too :-)

39. The Corrs-Summer Sunshine

http://www.wideopenwest.com/~diggbyrow/corrs/images/corrs04.jpg

Year: 2004

Chart Run: 2-2-2-1-4-1-4-2-4

Info: In a year of great comebacks and songs that returned to No.1 in my chart The Corrs achieved both of these with the uplifting mid-tempo pop song Summer Sunshine which really should have done better than the No.6 it reached in the UK...

Reason I love it: Another great song that the temporary trio of Andrea, Sharon and Jim performed well on tour, Summer Sunshine mixed great harmonies from Sharon with gorgeous lead vocals from Andrea, and though some say it sounds like Video Killed The Radio Star, this is not a bad thing...

38. Alice Deejay-The Lonely One

http://www.musicserver.cz/img/2510.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 1-3-3

Info: The second of four appearances for Dutch outfit Alice Deejay fronted by Judy Pronk, The Lonely One was the bands fourth single and a lot harder than its 3 predecessors, a strong contrast to the pure pop of Will I Ever. It peaked at No.16 in the UK...

Reason I love it: A very different style for Alice Deejay but it kept their trademark sound. A hard song whcih Judy's vocals complemented perfectly, it was a great singalong anthem and the surreal video only added to the effect!!! A classic :-)

37. Carrie Underwood-Jesus take the wheel

http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/u/underwood_carrie_060302/08.jpg

Year: 2006

Chart Run: 4-2-2-2-4-4-1-1-2-4

Info: The 4th, and in my opinion finest winner of American Idol, Country singer Carrie Underwood from Checotah in the US, hit my No.1 earlier this year with the religious country song Jesus take the wheel...unlike anything ever seen in my chart before it was a huge seller in America too...

Reason I love it: An odd one and my 2nd best song of the year so far, I usually detest country music but Carrie makes this song great. An amazing melody and very thought provoking lyrics led this song to spend 10 weeks in my top 5 and the album Some Hearts spent 6 weeks at No.1 in my chart :-)

36. Natasha Bedingfield-These Words

http://www.newmusicfriday.com/newsletter/newsletter190/natasha.jpg

Year: 2004

Chart Run: 3-2-1-1-1-1-5

Info: In the search to create the perfect pop song Natasha found one close to perfection in These Words. Daniel Bedingfield's sister followed her brother to UK No.1 status with this great and extremely catchy song which went top 20 in the US, though the follow up Unwritten went top 5 over there!!!

Reason I love it: I hated her debut single, Single, but the moment I heard this song and saw the quirky video I knew that she would become one of my favourite artists. Another eccentric but great live act, Natasha sings this song to perfection, the melody is brilliant, and with 4 weeks at No.1 in my chart this was destined to be one of my all time greats :-)

35. Fragma feat Coco-Toca's Miracle

http://lemonrock.com/bandpics/coco3.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 1-1-1-3-4

Info: An early mash up conceived by producer Vimto, this spliced together UK singer Coco's minor top 40 hit I Need A Miracle from 1997 with German group Fragma's No.11 1999 hit Toca Me. Together they worked perfectly and stormed to a huge selling two week No.1 in 2000 in the UK...

Reason I love it: Toca Me is a classic...however this song was the energy it needed to change it into a huge track. It is one of the most memorable (and biggest selling) dance tunes of this century and is loved by most people...So catchy and just works perfectly!!!

34. Ian Van Dahl-Will I?

http://dancevibes.be/images/ianvandahl/annemie.jpg

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 2-4-1-3-1-1-1-4-5-5

Info: The follow up to the groundbreaking Castles in the Sky (still to come), Will I was another UK top 5 hit for Belgian group Ian Van Dahl, fronted by singer Annemie Coenen. A much more poppy and uplifting track than their debut it spent 4 weeks in total at No.1 in my chart!!!

Reason I love it: I was just hooked by this song at the time. A complete contrast to the band's debut single, Will I had a colourful video, was immensely catchy and was as happy as pop trance gets. Their album was less Ace than its title suggested but this band are clearly a singles act...

33. Atomic Kitten-Eternal Flame

http://www.nrk.no/img/116602.jpeg

Year: 2001

Chart Run: 1-1-1-1-2-2-5

Info: One of Britain's best known girl groups, they started badly but Whole Again transformed them into a mega group...oddly I liked none of their singles before this UK No.1 and cover of Bangles No.1 but liked every song they did after it...

Reason I love it: I never really liked the Bangles version, I thought it sounded strained and out of date, but Atomic Kitten bought the song bang up to dategiving it a more modern pop feel to it. Their voices blended well together and it had a well deserved month at the top of my chart in summer 2001!!!

32. Thrillseekers feat Sheryl Deane-Synaesthesia (fly away)

http://www.residentadvisor.net/images/profiles/thrillseekers.jpg

Year: 2000

Chart Run: 1-1-1-3-R-1-1-2-5

Info: UK trance act the Thrillseekers had a huge hit in 2000/2001 with this hugely underrated trance classic which appears on many big selling dance compilations to this day. Pure trance, the song scraped into the UK top 40 but spent 5 broken up weeks at the top of my chart...

Reason I love it: I love the melody, I love the singer, Sheryl Deane and the combination of these two makes it a great track already, but it just has the x factor which takes it to the next level. Its uplifting and catchy when you know it, and it should have been a much bigger hit...
