Glenn Hoddle has quit as manager of Championship outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former England coach originally arrived in December 2004 on a short-term deal, but after a good-run he committed to a 12-month rolling-contract last summer.

However, Hoddle has grown increasingly frustrated that he has been unable to make much movement in the transfer market this summer and he has now decided that the ambitions of the club no longer match his own.

In a statement he said: "I wish to announce my decision, with immediate effect, to resign as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

"It has been a very difficult decision but I feel that my expectations and the club's expectations have drifted too far apart in recent weeks. This decision has been made early in pre-season for the benefit of the club.

"I would like to take the opportunity of thanking the board, players, staff and fans for their support and efforts and wish everyone connected with Wolverhampton Wanderers every success in the future."

The only name that springs to mind as a replacement so far IMO is Mick McCarthy possibly but there could be better choices then that probably... I'm disappointed really as I thought he should have given it a bit longer myself. Shame I didn't actually see any matches last season despite living right next to Molineux.
