Shushed. Don't dare diss my Amy, else you die.

They're more versatile than most think. A lot of their older stuff (which I have, if anyone wants, ask me on MSN) is fantastic and shows the bands diversity. A lot of people judged them solely on 'Fallen', which by all accounts was very vanilla (if awesome) and didn't showcase what Amy, Ben and David could really do.

Oi, don't shush me, I'm a Mod...  (only joking...). I got a copy of 'Origin' ages ago and yeah, it showed promise, but "Fallen" for me is just a total sell-out, almost as bad as that fukkin' Rasmus album when they all of a sudden decided to go all dyed-black hair and "Goth" after being an Offspring/Blink 182-style day-glo Punk band with for years... I dont like Evanescence's attitude towards the music, and I definitely dont like their live performances which rely WAAAAAAY too much on DAT play-back, obvioiusly it's impractical to have a 40-piece orchestra on a stage; but they took it to the extent that backing vocal, keyboard and second guitar parts were all filled in by DAT.... That aint a live performance as far as I'm concerned - if it takes three or four backing singers and session musicians to fill in the live sound on the stage, so be it....

And Amy Lee compared to Sharon Den Adel, Christina Scabbia or Tarja Teruenen...?

Got to agree with that. Those three wipe the floor with her vocally and in terms of charisma.

I quite like Amy Lee herself though.

When you see her sing live though, she's only actually got a rather above-average Rock voice, and technically she's no better than the likes of Kelly Clarkson or Hilary Duff to be honest (in fact you could probably replace Amy with either one of these and I doubt you'd really notice any significant difference..), her singing is all from the throat, no real power; whereas when you hear Tarja, Sharon or Christina sing there's a character in the voice, the sing from the diaphragm, real power, astonishing range, and technically they are streets ahead...

Wait one minute...

You put Amy Lee and Kelly Clarkson in the same league as Hilary ****ing Duff? If I were you, I'd sign myself into an asylum and be done with it.

Amy Lee isn't as good as Tarja, Cristina or Sharon, I'll give you that. But to put her in the same boat as Hilary Duff is sick, honest to God. HILARY DUFF CAN'T SING. Amy can SING, and I mean sing. I've seen her several times in concert, and she has range, power and emotion.

Sorry, but I saw Ev once, wasnt really impressed at all, they only played one track from their early 'Origin' material (and funnily enough it was the one song that didnt sound totally generic...) and they did a very creditable cover of Smashing Pumpkins' "Zero", but apart from that, it was pretty much yawnsville, the only time I've ever been at a gig where a relatively short set (barely an hour....) seemed about three times longer..

Amy is an adequate, competent singer; so is Kelly Clarkson, so is Hilary Duff (and let's not be silly Yoshi, of course she can sing a bit, but only a bit mind...), it's their material that sucks, and frankly Evanescence circa "Fallen" really isnt really that much farther up the ladder, it's generic, it's far too polished and poppy sounding when you compare it to what they did before. I'll listen out for the new stuff, but I dont hold out much hope that they've gone back to the more interesting material they did before they found fame, especially not with Ben Moody quitting the band...

My point is that these American female Pop/Rock singers are all pretty much interchangeable, and I dont really see much clear blue water between any of them, well Amy's not a blonde, I suppose that makes her a bit different.. A fan of Angela Gossow, Sharon Den Adel and Christina Scabbia should know exactly what I mean....

I just dont like much American music, and most of the American bands that I do like (such as Tool, System of a Down, Mars Volta, A Perfect Circle, etc) tend to not really sound typically American...

Yeah, I agree pretty much with what Grimly Fiendish is saying.

I'm impressed with Sharon Den Adel, Christina Scabbia and Tarja Teruenen's voices, the way they sing and their whole character really (probably not Tarja in that case though- she's a bit of a prima donna I think). Amy Lee has a good voice, and as I said I like her, but that's all she has really- a good voice.

Kelly Clarkson has a good voice as well I think, and it's no surprise that some of her material sounds like Fallen-era Evanescence considering Ben Moody worked on her album. As for Hilary Duff- well she has an OK-ish voice I suppose.

Great choice of American bands by the way!

Yeah, I heard about some of the totally fukked up things she was doing and saying, kind of set me against her somewhat, but she's still got a great voice, but the things I'm hearing about her solo direction does not fill me with much confidence....

Thanks for the compliment Ghostie..., I could've mentioned Dresden Dolls, Mindless Self Indulgence, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Interpol, Ministry, Revolting Cocks, NIN and Scarling as well.....

But unfortunately I am a bit of a sucker for some Marilyn Manson every now and then - but it tends to be the older stuff in my defence....

I have evanescence 1st album and i think it is very good, my favourite songs were probably 'hello' or the one near the end cant remember what its called 'last breath' or something like that. I didn't know they were having a new album thanks for the info, i'll be looking forward to it.

Great band and its fantastic to see them back with a good song - alot of comebacks this year have been somewhat lackluster
