Microsoft is preparing to take over an entire ad break in the X Factor next month as part of its biggest advertising push for its Xbox 360 console.

The PC giant will use the slot to promote its recent deal with BSkyB and the launch of the Lips Number Ones and DJ Hero video games.

Microsoft's UK Xbox marketing director Stephen McGill says: "We believe that the X Factor provides us with the perfect opportunity to communicate directly with our target audience and is the ideal time to educate them about the new games and services on the Xbox console.

"By taking up the entire ad break, we can really help to capture the imagination of both potential and existing Xbox users."

The ads are expected to run during the live X Factor show on 14 November, in a deal brokered by media agency Universal McCann.

It will be the first time Xbox has used an entire TV commercial spot to promote its services. McGill says the ads aim to "celebrate the innovation which our latest releases focus on".

On Tuesday, Microsoft launched its tie-up with Sky Player, Sky's online TV service, on the Xbox LIVE service and Windows 7.

And last week, Microsoft launched a global marketing campaign to promote the release of its Windows 7 operating system. The television, outdoor and digital activity highlights how the operating system was developed with the help of users and is designed to simplify people's lives

This is BIG :o This will do wonders to attract a new audience (i.e. try and get some of the Wii audience as well as their traditonal audience) the sky player has been in demand so much already they had to pull it down, tweak and re-launch it to cope with the demand! Considering a few days before that the biggest game of the year in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches (a game that looks set to break sales records and a game that traditionally sells around 70% of it's total on Xbox) this could be a big week for the Xbox! How big of an impact do you think it will have? Do you think it'll help increase the Xbox 360's lead over the PS3 in the UK by much? Do you think this will sway you into buying an Xbox?

Don't see it making a huge impact tbh

X Factor viewers tend to be young, pre teen, early teen, mid teen, late teen with a scattering of older people but it is primarily a young girl show

X Box tends to sell to the more mature gamer, uni students, over25's who tend to be out getting pissed on a Saturday night not watching X Factor

If they were launching a "My Little Pony" game X Factor would be a great medium but Call of Duty 2 ? nah, their core audience would be down the pub

Read the article ;) Lips: Number One Hits (singing game) DJ Hero and the Sky player are what they're promoting. I said COD because their traditional audience will be pre-occupied with that but this is for the new audience who they've been reaching out to for the past couple of years too.
