090 The Go! Team 'Bottle Rocket'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v9VIm2hQkk

The Go! Team are wonderfully weird, and 'Bottle Rocket' is the first song I ever heard by them. I love Ninja's vocals on it.

089 Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Maps'

Two in quick succession. This was the first song I heard by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I thought they'd be fantastic. I wasn't at all fussed though, however this song remains fabulous.

088 Last Shadow Puppets 'The Age of the Understatement'

I think I might like Last Shadow Puppets more than I like Arctic Monkeys. Both are fantastic but I think these have that something extra to them, none moreso than in this song.

087 Goldfrapp 'Utopia'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DogoqA_Vm8o

This is my favourite 'frapp song. Just. Back when they were probably at their best, 'Utopia' defines Goldfrapp.

086 Manic Street Preachers 'The Masses Against The Classes'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kks-mAHjrF0

Released in the first week of the decade, this became the naughties first number one single. Forgotten (or unknown) by most, this for me is the Manics on top of their game.

091 Idlewild 'American English'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joB0tlOjKcU

Possibly the most underrated band that's ever existed. I love Idlewild to bits, and this is the song that first made me fall in love with them.

win. amazing 10/10 song.

As it is by far the lower amount .... here are the songs I don't like / don't know/remember from your #200 - #101:

195 Patrick Wolf 'The Magic Position' 2007

192 Kanye West 'Jesus Walks' 2004

186 Lostprophets 'Last Summer' 2004

176 Stellastarr* 'Jenny' 2003

175 Babyshambles 'Killamangiro' 2004

174 Foals 'Hummer' 2007

163 Puddle of Mudd 'Blurry' 2002

162 Biffy Clyro 'Just Boy' 2001

158 Rihanna 'Don't Stop The Music' 2008

157 Bloc Party 'I Still Remember' 2007

152 Los Campesinos! 'The International Tweexcore Underground' 2007

130 The Rumble Strips 'Girls & Boys In Love' 2007

115 White Lies 'Death' 2008

106 The Bravery 'An Honest Mistake' 2005

A brilliant chart so far!

090 The Go! Team 'Bottle Rocket'

089 Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Maps' - Amazing song.

088 Last Shadow Puppets 'The Age of the Understatement' - The album never really grabbed me but this remains a fantastic song.

087 Goldfrapp 'Utopia'

085 White Stripes 'Blue Orchid'

I don't like this as much as I once did (it was my #3 single of 2005) but it's still my favourite song by them.

084 Elbow 'Fugitive Motel'

Until last year I'd always thought of Elbow as one of those acts who I'd happily listen to, but never really get into. I could remember this from its 2003 release but it wasn't until I bought their albums that it really clicked with me. Like most of their songs, it's beautiful.

083 DB Boulevard 'Point of View'

This is a fogotten gem if ever there was one. One of my favourite singles of 2002 this was, I remember watching the video loads. I even bought this on single.

082 Jose Gonzalez 'Heartbeats'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4_4abCWw-w

081 The Knife 'Heartbeats'

Aaaah, 'Heartbeats'. I've never been able to decide which is better, although I place The Knife higher here on merit of being the original. It's my favourite song of theirs and I've always loved it, it's so different and has so much energy. But Jose's version is everything a cover version should be. It takes the song and turns it into something completely different, it's so rare that a cover version can be so different from the original and still sound so fantastic.

I'm forever thankful to the Manics for that song for ending Westlife's run at the top with their godawful double a-side...

good song from what I recall actually, I remember it was only on sale for a limited time

brilliant to see DB Boulevard, funnily enough both that song and singer Moony's follow up single Dove just missed my 'top 131' after originally being in the top 200 longlist

085 White Stripes 'Blue Orchid' - Also my favourite by them.

082 Jose Gonzalez 'Heartbeats' - Fantastic.

081 The Knife 'Heartbeats'

Listened to the Jose version more, but I do liek the original.

099 Snow Patrol ft Martha Wainwright 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPG4WHhJk3A

I've never been a massive fan of Snow Patrol, but they do have some excellent songs, two of which make my top 100. Martha isn't someone I'm particularly fond of either, she's too banshee for my liking but this song just works.

I've3 only recently heard this song for the first time in my life. Such a fantastic masterpiece! Immediately became my favourite Snow Patrol song, previously it being Chasing Cars :kink:

098 Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy'

I first heard Zane Lowe play this at the back end of 2005 and thought it was excellent. It was very different from what was around at the time and was always destined to be a big hit, it deserved every bit of its success! My third favourite number one of the decade.

Wasn't that Crazy about this song but like it quite much. :D

097 Goldfrapp 'A&E'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VPyso87fZU

People said that 'Supernature' was a limp effort and that last years 'Seventh Tree' was a return to form. I thought 'Supernature' was great but on the evidence of this I wasn't going to do much arguing. Stunning.

Another stunning song. I usually don't like Goldfrapp that much but this completely blew me over last year.

094 Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Zero'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGxBTsmuRIk

Like the White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren't a band I've ever been particularly fond of but every album seem to produce one single I absolutely adore. When I heard this stomping anthem in the Spring I thought this would be it, however the album turned out to be pretty excellent too!

I actually don't 'love' this song but this buzz and hype about YYYs on this site particularly made me listen to it more attentively and i realised it wasn't that bad as i thought. Heads Will Roll is still my fave off this year's singles.

088 Last Shadow Puppets 'The Age of the Understatement'

I think I might like Last Shadow Puppets more than I like Arctic Monkeys. Both are fantastic but I think these have that something extra to them, none moreso than in this song.

Such a fantastic song! Being a big Arctic Monkeys fan it was almost not impossible for me not to get into them last year. Is Standing Next To Me gonna feature in your chart?

092 Missy Elliot 'Gossip Folks'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl4I6rbXuHs

A slightly surprising choice, perhaps? When this was released as a single it was the Fatboy Slim remix that I used to hear all the time and fell in love with. The original was great too, and helps it into the top 100. I've searched for a while for the FBS remix, both legally and illegally, but I can't find it at all. :( If anyone had it somewhere I'd be eternally greatful....

I have it but only the full version. I could probably edit it down, I think that's all they did on the radio at the time...

I'm really starting to think that your chart is going to literally end up being my 200 in a sightly different order ( :D ) - even this is my favourite Missy track and will feature in my chart too. :o

As you've gone to so much trouble, I shall do the full reply! Ones I love are in bold.

200 The Prodigy 'Omen' 2009

This is ok but it's not my favourite of theirs this decade, there's something about the most recent stuff that doesn't totally click with me.

199 Tilly & The Wall 'Beat Control' 2008

Love it, a #1 for me last year. It's just so catchy and infectious, one of those songs that's perfect for beginning a compilation for the car.

198 Train 'Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)' 2001

Hmmmm. I can only vaguely remember this now tbh, it never grabbed me much at the time (I don't appear to have even charted it back in 2001). Just listened to the youtube clip and it's not that bad actually, sounds like a slightly more modern version of the typical 80s US rock ballads. I like his boots in the video too!

197 VV Brown 'Crying Blood' 2008

Still sounds like the monster mash. I know you've been a fan this year but I still can't get into her aside from this and Shark In The Water which again is ok but nothing outstanding to these ears.

196 Arcade Fire 'Keep The Car Running' 2007

I like this more than I think I do if you know what I mean. In fact that could be said for the entirety of the Neon Bible album actually. That said, I think it was a terrible single choice as they could have released something like No Cars Go and really capitalise on the good press they were getting at the time.

195 Patrick Wolf 'The Magic Position' 2007

Love it. Obviously. Having said that, it's not even in contention for my top 200 singles as there are at least 6 others he's released this decade that I prefer. Patrick is one of those acts that would potentially dominate my chart, I think I'm going to have to limit appearances for the sake of variety.

194 Pet Shop Boys 'Integral' 2007

Absolutely superb. PSB realising that they sounded best in the late 80s and early 90s and reverting back to a throwaway pop sound with their typically unusual lyrical subjects. I think they remain the only act from the 80s that are still releasing singles that are occasionally up there with the best of their back catalogue.

193 Timbaland ft Keri Hilson 'The Way I Are' 2007

Good song and a worthy #1. I used to hate it to begin with but it just grew on me over the rest of the year until it totally won me over.

192 Kanye West 'Jesus Walks' 2004

LOVE this. My favourite of his and the first time in the chart that I thought "Oh, he's even included the ones I thought may just be in mine... :o "

191 Girls Aloud 'No Good Advice' 2003

Can't help but like this, I love the way they've transformed from being what should have been a flash in the pan group to genuine UK stars.

190 Magic Numbers 'Forever Lost' 2005

Unlike you, I have sorta tired of these lot. Although maybe in retrospect I only ever really liked this and the follow up anyway. Still a good song but one of my #1s that probably won't get a look in at the decade end.

189 Long Blondes 'Giddy Stratospheres' 2007

Another personal chart #1 for me. Still a great song and from a great album too, one I really need to dig out and listen again sometime soon actually. I think Weekend Without Make-up is probably my favourite of theirs.

188 Supergrass 'Kiss of Life' 2004

A great choice for a forgotten gem, in fact their 00s output has been better than their 90s output imo. Rush Hour Soul is my other favourite.

187 Ian Brown 'F.E.A.R.' 2001

I didn't like this at the time. Which is odd as in retrospect this is exactly the type of song I should have loved. I think I may have to download this...

186 Lostprophets 'Last Summer' 2004

Never been that keen on this lot tbh. Can't think how any of their singles go off the top of my head, they kind of fall into that generic rock-lite sound that I'm not keen on.

185 Underworld 'Two Months Off' 2002

Love Underworld, definitely one of the more consistent dance acts over the years. I can't say I like this one to end of decade levels but good to see it in here none the less.

184 Foo Fighters 'Times Like These' 2003

Another band that just aren't 'me' I'm afraid. Although this is one of the ones I don't mind as much.

183 Thom Yorke 'Harrowdown Hill' 2006

I adored his album when it was out. I'm actually completely over it now and Analyse (which was a huge song in my personal chart) didn't even make my shortlist, how times change. This is definitely the standout and his only song to date that stands up against Radiohead's best work.

182 Red Hot Chili Peppers 'Can't Stop' 2003

By The Way was actually quite a good record in retrospect, I'm still quite fond of this and The Zephyr Song. I do wish they had never released the monstrosity that was Stadium Arcadium though, it single handedly killed any interest I had in them. Gah.

181 The Knife 'Like A Pen' 2006

Brilliant. From one of my favourite albums of the decade, love that you included the video as your pick as it's fantastic and totally suits the track.

180 Graham Coxon 'Freaking Out' 2004

Just so so on this tbh.

179 The Shortwave Set 'Casual Use' 2007

Great track. I remember you introducing me to it and it blew me away with how well they used the sample and how different it sounded to their previous output.

178 Outkast 'Ms Jackson' 2001

God this was everywhere back then. I used to know people who needlessly added a 'wooo' to the end of their sentences as a result. Still great though, they're one of those bands who I like about 2 tracks per album though.

177 Christina Aguilera 'Dirrty' 2002

Guilty pleasure alert! I actually went to see her live when she did the Stripped tour, she was suprisingly good. I think all the singles from that album are decent in one way or another but I agree with you that this is her best.

176 Stellastarr* 'Jenny' 2003

Huzzah! It pains me how underrated their self titled album is. :(

175 Babyshambles 'Killamangiro' 2004

Not keen.

174 Foals 'Hummer' 2007

Love it. Most of the rest of their material is a bit $h!t though!

173 Britney Spears 'Piece of Me' 2008

Again, another guilty pleasure. I think this and Break The Ice are the best things she's ever recorded. Plus it has Robyn input, I simply HAVE to like it. :D

172 Liam Frost & The Slowdown Family 'The Mourners of St. Pauls' 2006

Ahhhh, I remember this from the Unknown Pleasure thing... I really like it although I didn't know it at all before then, it's pretty much my favourite UP discovery.

171 Death Cab For Cutie 'I Will Follow You Into The Dark' 2006

Good song, not as totally sold as you are but interesting in structure.

170 Kasabian 'Club Foot' 2004

I really hate Kasabian. Well, until this year anyway. They've seemed kinda out of place in this decade to me, they should have been around in the mid 90s.

169 MGMT 'Time to Pretend' 2008

Good song but I have gone off of this a bit. I know we've had this conversation before but their album really is the biggest pile of crap - this and Kids aside.

168 The Pains of Being Pure at Heart 'Higher Than The Stars' 2009

Good. Still growing on me but is in my top 10 at the moment.

167 The Raconteurs 'Steady, As She Goes' 2006

Nah, don't like these lot much at all...

166 Reverend & The Makers 'Heavyweight Champion of the World' 2007

This is another song that's just in the wrong decade. It's basically a mid 80s Duran Duran track. That said, mid 80s Duran Duran tracks are bloomin fantastic and so is this.

165 Editors 'Munich' 2005

Great song, they've suffered this decade in my eyes as being like a worse version of Interpol but Munich is definitely one of the songs where they rise above that comparison (the frankly wonderful Papillon being another).

164 Amy Winehouse 'You Know I'm Not Good' 2007

Good to see something from Back To Black make it. I have a lot of respect for Amy Winehouse, the album really is one of the most deserving success stories of the decade with 5 amazing singles.

163 Puddle of Mudd 'Blurry' 2002

Not my thing, I'm sure you're not surprised!

162 Biffy Clyro 'Just Boy' 2001

I don't know this at all... they completely passed me by until last year.

161 Razorlight 'Golden Touch' 2004

Razorlight have completely dropped off of my radar due to the horrendous singles from the second album onwards. You're right that this was good though, it showed much promise that they unfortunately have yet to deliver.

160 Imogen Heap 'Hide and Seek' 2005

Imogen. She reminds me of Siobhan Donaghy in that both make great quirky pop tracks that are simply too good for the masses. :(

159 Little Boots 'Remedy' 2009

Ah, Ms Boots. Great track, although it is easily my favourite of what I would class as 'new' tracks on the album. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say anything bad about this track, I'm surprised it didn't do better once it had taken off.

158 Rihanna 'Don't Stop The Music' 2008

Another good choice. At first I thought the sample was really lazy but actually the way they build it into the song as it progresses is really quite clever.

157 Bloc Party 'I Still Remember' 2007

As I said before, it's not my favourite of theirs. Still decent enough though.

156 Late of the Pier 'Heartbeat' 2008

Another decent track. I'm running out of comments as you haven't included enough dreadful stuff to make them varied!

155 Dizzee Rascal 'Bonkers' 2009

Average at best. I hate the fact that basically all Dizzee does is sing one line over and over again, it would be an average Armand Van Helden track and it doesn't seem to me that Mr Rascal has had that much input into it at all. Although, who am I to judge I guess! :D

154 Antony & The Johnsons 'Hope There's Someone' 2005

This is just gorgeous. The album has slightly dipped in my affections but this is such a beautiful and unusual track. Stunning, just stunning.

153 Mystery Jets' Two Doors Down' 2008

Love the one with Laura Marling, I don't really get the appeal of this one and was a bit bemused when it appeared in quite a few of the year end lists last year.

152 Los Campesinos! 'The International Tweexcore Underground' 2007

This is my favourite of theirs, typical that it's not on either album! I shall be intrigued to see what they come back with next, I hope they progress their sound as I don't feel like I need another with more of the same.

151 Dr Dre ft Eminem 'Forgot About Dre' 2000

I usually either love or hate singles with Eminem on them. This is one that falls into the love side. Actually, you've just reminded me that I used to love Still D.R.E. also...

Right, half done, half later! :D

099 Snow Patrol ft Martha Wainwright 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar' - They do have a couple of good songs and this is one of them.

098 Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' - Good song, maybe didn't deserve to be quite AS BIG as it got, but it is better than the normal chart fodder.

097 Goldfrapp 'A&E' - Beautiful song, the best from that era which was disappointing overall.

096 Death Cab For Cutie 'I Will Possess Your Heart' - I only have 'Plans' by them but I do remember listenign to this and it was good, not my favourite by them though.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks 'Seventh Tree' is their weakest album. To me it seems like they've tried to combine the best sounds from their first three albums and it doesn't work very well, it does have 3 great songs though; 'A&E', 'Cologne Cerrone Houdini' and 'Clowns'.

095 Feeder 'Just A Day' - Amazing, reminds me of Gran Turismo.

Ah I remember it being on Gran Turismo now. I loved that game! :D

099 Snow Patrol ft Martha Wainwright 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar'! Not my favourite SP song, but it's definately up there.

097 Goldfrapp 'A&E' STUNNING! This song pleasently surprised me. I love it. Definately in my faveourites of the decade!

Not heard the others bar 'Crazy' :puke: I will give them a listen after JLS' album LOL :P (Ha! Being shunned out for JLS' album, whatever next? LOL)

EDIT:

095 Feeder 'Just A Day' Big fan of Feeder. This is definately one of my faves!

094 Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Zero' Again. Another song that tok me completely by surprise.

The others (apart from Missy) again I haven't heard. I find Missy Elliott horrifically overrated! :puke:

To be honest if you listen to a few of the ones you don't know I don't really care what takes priority over it. ^_^

I kind of agree with you about Missy, I do tend to like her more than most from that genre, but I don't think she's as good as a lot of people say.

'Set The Fire...' is lovely, it was kinda Christmassy I guess. It's a shame it was totally overshadowed by 'Chasing Cars. :(

14 is an excellent amount, some of those I wouldn't expect you to like but I'm a bit surprised to see Patrick Wolf in there, I hope you don't know it!

'Set The Fire...' is lovely, it was kinda Christmassy I guess. It's a shame it was totally overshadowed by 'Chasing Cars. :(

which in turn is one of my least favourite singles of the decade :drama: mainly due to how overplayed it's been
