Song Covers SoundClash #93
It's a VERY rare thing that I actually like both of the songs up for the vote... in fact, it's quite rare that I like either 😂 But it probably has to just about be Bat For Lashes

RATE: Buzzjack's Ultimate Platinum Non-Top 40 Single: 2nd Semi-Final
A shame to see Ben Howard going out. Keep Your Head Up is such an effortlessly joyful song, it was the first one of his I grew to love before then getting addicted to The Wolves and Old Pine... he's come such a long way (for better or worse!) since then that it's difficult to imagine the same person released such a cheery song with a video of them building a water slide

The Mayhem Ball 2025-2026
I'm REALLY gutted that I don't have tickets for this. I've never seen her live, and to be fair have never tried to even get tickets, but having seen the recent setlists and the performance at Coachella I really think this will be her best show ever The setlist of recent shows have been nearly perfect for me

Squid Game • Season 2-3
I've finally made my way through seasons 2 and 3... Pluses... • I really liked a lot of the characters and definitely felt there were a lot of them you could root for, even some of the 'baddies' like Thanos and player 100 were different enough to enjoy keeping around. • Consequently some of the deaths really did sadden me, players 95 and 120 in particular. • I love that so many people out there seem to have loved 120 • I liked that things didn't totally pan out how I expected them to. I didn't expect Thanos to go when he did or for them to try and break the system as early as they did • The games were largely good, mingle and hide and seek in particular Minuses... • Some of the plot felt a bit too similar to the first season... ie the mother/son fate ending in a very similar way to the husband/wife story, even more so when both hang themselves following it. I felt that hide and seek was basically the same as marbles, in so much as it acted as a means for a lot of the key characters to exit and provided a lot of the emotional scenes. • I didn't care in the slightest what happened to the baby, and in general I thought it was a bad plot point - and the ending was almost inevitable as soon as it appeared. • Agree with everyone else that the VIP stuff was terrible. • I didn't care in the slightest who won once 222 had gone (as all my other faves had gone by that point) - and this was a big problem as I was already losing interest by this point, I think I was supposed to root for 456 and the baby but I wasn't rooting for them at all really. They should probably have switched hide and seek and jump rope around in the order of games so that some of the key characters stuck around for more of season 3, albeit I guess some of the people who died in jump rope were needed to be killers in hide and seek so maybe it wouldn't have worked very well... or maybe it would have worked better as some of the characters we liked would have been forced to be on the killers side and they wouldn't have been able to just rely on the ones who've already been made out to be the villians • I thought the ending was weak. It was a little bit surprising that 456 went out but his death didn't really have any meaning, he'd not achieved anything really and it all just felt very unsatisfying. Yes he had a little speech about horses vs humans, but it's not like any of the VIPs etc would really care so it was just meaningless. I'm not really that interested in the American one at all. Although let's hope there isn't a game in the US version where they have to point out another country on a map as all the players would likely lose(!)

Song Covers SoundClash #91
Oh no hold on it has to be 2000s onwards here doesn't it! 🤣 Still, I'll leave it there as a reminder because I still think it's become totally forgotten!

Poor brave forgotten Goldbug! I loved this at the time but it surely has to be one of the least well remembered top 3 hits of all time

Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
A couple of years back I decided to go through the charts of the 80s to work out what my personal chart #1s would have looked like - obviously it's with the benefit of hindsight and taste but so far your rankings are extremely similar... my first few are probably still charting from 1979 as they don't feature in your reviews at all, but every one since has featured in the top 2 of your lists <3 All of the past six at the top of your lists made it, with the two others being Breathing and Underpass.

The Pop Factor: Season 1 • The Grand Final: Part One
Two of these are waaayyyyy better than the others for me. A very clear last place for me also.

The Pop Factor: Season 1 • The Semi Final RESULTS
Given precisely none of her best tracks are collaborations, I’m not sure how hard that could have been!

Oasis
Have to say that I think they've pretty much nailed the setlist for these gigs. Realistically their best work is all from the 90s and the majority of the people attending want to relive the two biggest albums that they loved. You could argue that The Importance of Being Idle could be included but it's probably not as good as the material they are playing, even if it was unexpectedly strong for that period of their career.

dandy ranks his 266 #1s of the 90s
189 | Wildchild - Renegade Master 98 Next up we move into early 1998 and the re-release of the classic Wildchild track. The original track had been doing the rounds for some time, albeit under the title of 'Legends of the Dark Black', but it was the mix by Fatboy Slim that really made this track for me. At this point in the 90s Norman Cook really could do no wrong, everything he touched just worked and this remix was no exception as he brought his soon to be trademark beats and tempo tricks to the table. I still really like this now and include it high up my Fatboy Slim best of playlist... in the charts it entered at #3 which I thought was pretty decent for it, albeit I was appalled when I heard the awful Bamboogie track enter a place higher - I mentioned as much very recently in Gazza's 1998 thread that I think that Bamboogie is dance music at its lowest when it relies solely on a famous hook with virtually no other creativity on display. The other two tracks I'm highlighting from this chart are both belonging to families... first up is the Lighthouse Family whose single High climbed to a peak of #3 for me, definitely one of their best singles and deserved to have some staying power in the charts. The other choice entered the charts much lower at #30, as The Family Stand took Ghetto Heaven briefly back into the chart - the song had originally been a top 10 hit back in 1990 but somehow it managed to pass me by both times it charted, despite me growing to like it from compilation albums in 93/94 when summery soul inspired music became quite popular. The stats: Date: 11 January 1998 Weeks: One 1990s chart rank: 192 2020s plays rank: 154 Biggest song it kept from number one: Lighthouse Family - High Biggest fave now that I didn't love at the time: The Family Stand - Ghetto Heaven
