Right... the second 50 while I actually have enough time!

150 Malcolm Middleton 'f*** It, I Love You' 2007

Love it. This is the song that brought him to my attention really, I now prefer his previous album 'The Woods' but there were a clutch of decent singles from both. I also like 'Zero' from the new one but I've not felt compelled to get the album.

149 Kings of Leon 'Use Somebody' 2008

I like this, it's my favourite of theirs I think. I've actually never bothered with any of their songs before, even though I know most people rate the earlier material more than the latest lot.

148 Glasvegas 'Daddy's Gone' 2008

My favourite of theirs by some distance. I really wanted to like the album but alas it just hasn't happened, his voice just grates on me after about three tracks and there is FAR too much unnecessary swearing. :|

147 LCD Soundsystem 'Someone Great' 2007

Another great track, All My Friends is my favourite of theirs but I can't fault anything on this album.

146 Pendulum 'Slam' 2005

Decent enough. I find their songs tend to become irritating quite quickly though - or in the case of the second album, just generally $h!te.

145 Jane's Addiction 'Just Because' 2003

Don't actually know this at all. :o

144 Regina Spektor 'Fidelity' 2007

A nice choice, Regina is one of those artists I always mean to try and hear more of but I only really know this and Us.

143 Amerie 'One Thing' 2005

Actually this is really good. I haven't thought about it since it's release but I may have to download it, definitely a cut above the usual standard of the genre.

142 Blink 182 'I Miss You' 2004

Had to happen eventually... I really don't like either them or this. Boo. :(

141 Sleater-Kinney 'Entertain' 2005

THIS on the other hand is amazing. Have you heard The Woods? It's a really good album, will definitely be somewhere inside my list of the year.

140 Maximo Park 'The Coast Is Always Changing' 2004

I don't know this at all... nothing they have done has grabbed me since Apply Some Pressure.

139 Feist '1234' 2007

Such an amazing video and artist. Feist is another one of those acts that may need pruning from my list with this, Mushaboom, My Moon My Man and I Feel It All currently all battling it out for spots.

138 The Enemy 'We'll Live & Die In These Towns' 2007

I haven't given this a chance... can't say I'm ever likely to either! :D

137 Guillemots 'Made Up Love Song #43' 2005

I used to love these... they've suffered over the years with me though, I only regularly listen to Sao Paolo now.

136 Wolfman ft Pete Doherty 'For Lovers' 2004

This one is quite nice but misses something for me.

135 White Stripes 'Seven Nation Army' 2003

Ah, one of the more iconic songs of the decade. Surely this will always be a classic, that riff is just so instantly recognisable. I prefer some of the songs from the following album where they went slightly more bluesy though.

134 Ash 'Burn Baby Burn' 2001

Decent enough pop rockers but I've never been inspired enough to investigate further.

133 TV On The Radio 'Dancing Choose' 2009

Love this. A #1 for me this year and I still play it regularly, quite a contrast from their other material though.

132 Stereophonics 'Dakota' 2005

Oh. I've just predicted this to be one of the 2 remaining #1s. Ne'ermind eh!

131 Digitalism 'Pogo' [shinichi Osawa Remix] 2008

Completely agree with what you put in the thread. The original is good, this remix makes the song so much better and is definitely one of my favourites also.

130 The Rumble Strips 'Girls & Boys In Love' 2007

I didn't know this until recently (actually, I think you recommended it somewhere else and I downloaded it) - it is good but I'm not too familiar with it yet.

129 Franz Ferdinand 'Darts of Pleasure' 2003

Another act who lost their way over the decade. Unfortunately the more I heard from them, the less I liked.

128 The Delgados 'Everybody Come Down' 2004

I don't know this from the title although I do tend to like the band when I hear them.

127 The Futureheads 'Area' 2005

My favourite of their original tracks by some margin, it's just so catchy and I love the way it doesn't outstay it's welcome too. Hounds Of Love is also good though, one of the better covers of the past 10 years.

126 Oasis 'Songbird' 2003

Neither love nor hate this but I do agree that it sounds a bit different for them. I think my favourite 00s Oasis tracks were on the most recent album actually, I liked I'm Outta Time and I do still like the Chemical Brothers mix of Falling Down (even if all they do is make it sound like one of their own 90s singles).

125 The Knife 'Marble House' 2007

Amazing, I will never tire of this track. It didn't jump out at me when I first got the album but it's melody gradually seeps through and it just stuck. Will be top 50 at least for me I think.

124 Arctic Monkeys 'Fluorescent Adolescent' 2007

I quite like this. I do think the band are overrated though, I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't buy their albums.

123 Late of the Pier 'Space and the Woods' 2008

My favourite of theirs, like David Bowie crossed with Gary Numan.

122 Coldplay 'The Scientist' 2002

I didn't like this when it was out. Then Aimee Mann covered it when I saw her live and I loved her version so much that it made me revisit the original and now I regard it as one of their best.

121 Muse 'Bliss' 2001

Definitely one of their best, this and New Born are the obvious highlights of Origin Of Symmetry (another massively overrated album)

120 Dandy Warhols 'Bohemian Like You' 2001

[smug]I knew this when it was out the first time[/smug]. One of the few songs to top my chart twice, it was a constant on my minidisc player ( ) back in 2000 and I still think it's a great track now.

119 The Futureheads 'The Beginning of the Twist' 2008

Sort of nice enough I guess. They're a band I feel I ought to like more than I actually do.

118 Placebo 'Slave to the Wage' 2000

I'd completely forgotten that Black Market Music was a 00s album, I used to love Placebo back then so I may have to add them to my shortlist now too.

117 Van She 'The Cat & The Eye' 2009

Like the band but prefer both Strangers and Changes to this song when it comes to the singles.

116 Ben Folds ft Regina Spektor 'You Don't Know Me' 2008

This is a good track, I think Matt introduced me to it actually. I agree that it sounds quite average on first listen but really does grow with time.

115 White Lies 'Death' 2008

It's ok. Unfinished Business is my favourite of theirs, I found the album very underwhelming.

114 Red Hot Chili Peppers 'By The Way' 2002

Used to really like this (see previous comment for RHCP!)

113 Queens of the Stone Age 'No One Knows' 2002

Great track. I bought this album on a whim (it's heavier than the stuff I usually listen to) but it's surprisingly good and consistent.

112 Roger Sanchez 'Another Chance' 2001

Definitely one of the better #1s of the decade. The video makes me :( though, awwww.

111 Eminem 'Stan' 2000

An obvious classic. The Dido part is the best thing about it though, strangely it works better here than it does on her own track though.

110 Interpol 'PDA' 2002

Ah, Interpol. One of the bands of the decade for me and this song always takes me back to when I first discovered them. The album was on a loop for weeks round mine.

109 Long Blondes 'Once and Never Again' 2006

Another good track from one of the more consistent albums of the past 10 years.

108 The Subways 'Rock & Roll Queen' 2005

:o I forgot all about this. I remember liking it but I can't remember how it goes now. I shall youtube it...

107 MGMT 'Kids' 2008

My favourite of theirs by some margin now. One of my most listened to tracks too, should be high for me I think.

106 The Bravery 'An Honest Mistake' 2005

Still love this, will definitely be high up in mine. This was my song of 2005 and I think it was my #1 for 7 weeks. Love the video too, especially the end. :D

105 The Pipettes 'Dirty Mind' 2005

Pipettes  I need to dig this album out again, it was THE soundtrack of any car journey over the Summer of 05. They should have been huge.

104 Kasabian 'Underdog' 2009

I wasn't expecting this, it's too recent in my mind to qualify I think. Good track though from a surprisingly good album.

103 Doves 'Black and White Town' 2005

Another #1 for me and probably my favourite of theirs from the whole decade, it's certainly the one I still listen to the most.

102 Blur 'Out of Time' 2003

My favourite ever Blur track, finally surpassing the amazing Tender. I love the fact that it's understated, one of their more adult sounding tracks and it just captivates me whenever it's played.

101 Gorillaz 'Feel Good Inc' 2005

Another Albarn one... this is another #1 for me I think. This sounds better in 09 than I expected it to, I really thought it would date horribly when it was out but even the laugh still sounds ok. One of the more inventive and distinctive tracks of the 00s imo.

Right... I'm over halfway to catching up... I'll get there eventually. :D

To add to Ashford:

Oh dear. :(

Edit: They've already gone anyway (#98 & #86)! Although you might not have read them...

Oh dear indeed :(

I hadn't got that far yet... at least they were in contention. :D

edit: And let's face it, it couldn't have been any more obvious than one of them being Crazy

love Aerodynamic, bought it on import single :D possibly my favourite single from Discovery actually, although all of the singles were great...Digital Love was the only one to top my chart, I think One More Time and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger both went top five

All four are fantasitc (well, the whole album is really) but 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' is the only one I don't completely love.

I adore 'Gossip Folks', the video for it was epic too. Definetly one of my faves from Missy along with 'Lose Control.

I quite liked 'Lose Control' too, I always felt it got undeserved stick for having Fatman Scoop on it.

All four are fantasitc (well, the whole album is really) but 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' is the only one I don't completely love.

I actually preferred what Kanye West did with it on Stronger, he seemed to beef it up a bit :o

Ew. I think that's the only Kanye West single I don't like...

funnily enough, I've just counted how many UK #1's are in my top 100 of the decade and there are 15! to balance it out though, my countdown includes singles that were never released here + a few album tracks, so it makes me feel less like a slave to the UK charts

I have only kept this to singles regardless of where released, but as I've never really paid much attention to music outside the UK about 190+ probably have been released here!

Ew. I think that's the only Kanye West single I don't like...

I've always kept a close eye on Australia, Sweden/Norway/Denmark and Germany, so a few songs from these places feature...most of them are UK singles though and hardly any album tracks feature at all, maybe five?

Right... the second 50 while I actually have enough time!

I do have 'A Brighter Beat' but I didn't like it enough to make me want to investigate further.

149 Kings of Leon 'Use Somebody' 2008

I like this, it's my favourite of theirs I think. I've actually never bothered with any of their songs before, even though I know most people rate the earlier material more than the latest lot.

I'm not entirely sure how much of their previous stuff you'd like really, it could be anything to not much to quite a lot... 'Knocked Up' is a must though.

148 Glasvegas 'Daddy's Gone' 2008

My favourite of theirs by some distance. I really wanted to like the album but alas it just hasn't happened, his voice just grates on me after about three tracks and there is FAR too much unnecessary swearing. :|

Understandable really, although I do like the album quite a lot. It does trail off a bit towards the end though.

144 Regina Spektor 'Fidelity' 2007

A nice choice, Regina is one of those artists I always mean to try and hear more of but I only really know this and Us.

I have her album and I listened to it a few times but none of it grabbed me at all. :(

141 Sleater-Kinney 'Entertain' 2005

THIS on the other hand is amazing. Have you heard The Woods? It's a really good album, will definitely be somewhere inside my list of the year.

This is actually the only song of theirs I actuallly know, I'll have to check some more stuff out! :D

137 Guillemots 'Made Up Love Song #43' 2005

I used to love these... they've suffered over the years with me though, I only regularly listen to Sao Paolo now.

I have to say I don't listen to 'Through the Windowpane' anywhere near as much as I should given how much I liked it.

130 The Rumble Strips 'Girls & Boys In Love' 2007

I didn't know this until recently (actually, I think you recommended it somewhere else and I downloaded it) - it is good but I'm not too familiar with it yet.

Did I?! I'm not sure where, although it was the opening track on my CD Swap which you'd have had the link to... I entered this in Haven's version of Unknown Pleasures, and it won! :D

I do think the Chemical Brothers remix of 'Falling Down' is great but it does just feel like it might as well be called 'Setting Sun Pt.2'

121 Muse 'Bliss' 2001

Definitely one of their best, this and New Born are the obvious highlights of Origin Of Symmetry (another massively overrated album)

They're easily my favourites off it too, although that album is the one of theirs I like most.

108 The Subways 'Rock & Roll Queen' 2005

:o I forgot all about this. I remember liking it but I can't remember how it goes now. I shall youtube it...

You shall have to! Of the 3 singles they released off 'Young For Eternity' this was the one that didn't really grab me originally but it's grown on me so much and it's easily their best song.

104 Kasabian 'Underdog' 2009

I wasn't expecting this, it's too recent in my mind to qualify I think. Good track though from a surprisingly good album.

This is only quite recent but I've known it since May now so long enough...

I didn't even realise that Damon's two appearences in this came together, and just outside the top 100. :|

it's one of the only ones I do like!

If I were to rank his singles, and not ones he's just featured on I'd say:

Jesus Walks

Homecoming

Touch The Sky

Gold Digger

Through The Wire

Heartless

Heard Em Say

Good Life

Diamonds From Sierra Leone

Love Lockdown

Stronger

All Falls Down

oh actually I do prefer Homecoming to Stronger  liked Through The Wire too but that's the only three I care about

070 Flaming Lips 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1'

A song I don't love now as much as I once did but is still great. I've never really been able to get into them as much as I think I should do. Apart from this and a couple of others I find them a tad dull.

069 Mint Royale ft Lauren Laverne 'Don't Falter'

They may be most well known for number one single 'Singin' In The Rain' but the song of theirs I've always thought was best was this gem from early 2000. Featuring Lauren Laverne on vocals when she was still a singer this is wonderfully crafted and catchy pop song. Should be regarded as a classic, will always be forgotten by most. Perhaps surprisingly, this song is actually the highest ranked song from the first half of the decade with female vocals! :o

068 The Horrors 'Sea Within A Sea'

Now this was a pleasant surprise earlier this year. I'd heard their debut album and I thought it was dreadful, they sounded like Klaxons only heavier and somehow more dreadful. But they came back this year with a completely different sound. Produced by one of Portishead this was stunning, 8 minutes in length and no real chorus it's not really a song most people will get into, but Faris Rotter's vocals are really impressive. Even more surprisingly, this isn't even their best single....

067 The Music 'Getaway'

From 2002 this was one of those songs that I just loved at the time and kept in the memory, it's a great vocal and far better than anything else they've produced.

066 The Postal Service 'The District Sleeps Alone Tonight'

The Postal Service are the greatest ever act to only release on album. This is one of the best songs on it.

love Don't Falter :D

no Black Box Recorder - Facts Of Life? I was half expecting to see it in here

these two songs always seem to go together for me...female led indie pop from early 2000

Adore 'Earthquake', my favourite of hers behind 'Remedy', took a while to grow but I love it now. 'Song 4 Mutya' is amazing too, should've done so much better than it did, shame about the cheap video for it.

065 Royksopp ft Robyn 'The Girl & The Robot'

How was this such a flop? How is this so significantly worse than anything either have produced before?! :( It's magnificent. Although I haven't grown to like it as much as I thought I would do it one stage it's still in my top 10 of the year.

064 Mystery Jets ft Laura Marling 'Young Love'

Mystery Jets were another band I didn't really like with their debut and I certainly wasn't fussed about their return. But then I saw it featured Laura Marling, someone who's album I'd just bought and rather enjoyed so I became interested. It was wonderful, by far the strongest song for both acts. A tale of a one night stand from two people's points of view it has some rather wonderful lyrics and superb harmonies between the two vocalists.

063 Noisettes 'Never Forget You'

When I first listened to their new album earlier this year this song completely passed me by at first and I paid almost no attention to it until it was revealed it was the second single. I've no idea why I did that because it's been the biggest grower of the year. Another song that's wonderful lyrically.

062 Super Furry Animals 'Juxtaposed With U'

I'm not sure I'd ever heard of the Furries before this came out but I can remember hearing this a lot on the radio in the Summer of 01 and it became something of an anthem. I forgot about it for a while and then remembered it a few years ago. They're a great band, and this is them at their best. #3 from 2001.

061 Jet 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl?'

I thought this was brilliant when first released in 2003 and loved it even more the following summer when it came out again. A brilliant Rock/Pop anthem that I thought would propel them to greater things. Shame it didn't, their debut was a pretty solid album.

like all five of those :D particularly The Girl & The Robot

random comment but Delta Goodrem covered that Jet song on one of her live tours!

070 Flaming Lips 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1' - Brilliant song, never got any of their albums but I should check out this one.

068 The Horrors 'Sea Within A Sea' - Great builder, like the new direction they went in.

066 The Postal Service 'The District Sleeps Alone Tonight' - Amazing

065 Royksopp ft Robyn 'The Girl & The Robot' - Very good.

060 Vampire Weekend 'A-Punk'

Released at the beginning of last year this quickly became a favourite of mine. I tired of them and this song a little by the end of the year but I love them again now. It's extremely quirky and they use their influences well. I also think it's perfect at just over 2 minutes long, it would be ruined if it was longer.

059 Idlewild 'These Wooden Ideas'

I wasn't aware of Idlewild when this song came out, a small hit from mid 2000. But once I discovered them I soon bought all of their albums. This has been in my top 3 of theirs since, althought it is some way off the top 2. (#3 of 2000)

058 Snow Patrol 'Run'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP5j_Q9CZ3w

Despite Leona's best efforts to ruin this song, I think she just made me adore this version even more than I already did. Like most people, this was the first song I knew by Snow Patrol, and has remained my favourite ever since. It's beautiful.

057 Bodyrox ft Luciana 'Yeah Yeah'

In late 2006 this came along and I loved it, it had been a while since I'd liked something so shouty and it was a welcome change from what dance music was around at that time. It was copied and ripped off so many times in the following year, but this always remained far superior. I love the video too, and Luciana is gorgeous.

056 Los Campesinos! 'You! Me! Dancing!'

When I first heard this I thought it was all types of brilliance. There was so much going on and it seemed so weird. They've gone on the become one of my favourite bands in the last couple of years but this has always remained my favourite of theirs. I love the way it builds and builds with a two minute intro. I don't know what they did to it for the album though as I thought that version was awful.
