Singer Robbie Williams to Court Investors: Report

November 21, 2009

LONDON (Reuters) - British singer Robbie Williams may sell the right to half his future album, touring and sponsorship earnings in a 50 million pound ($83 million) deal, one of his managers was reported to say on Saturday.

Managers for Williams, whose hits including "Angels" and "Let Me Entertain You," will court investors as a possible alternative to signing up with a record label, The Times newspaper said.

The former Take That singer is nearing the end of a 55 million pound, four-album deal with British music group EMI.

"Obviously we are talking to several record companies about a new deal for Robbie, but we are also looking at talking broadly to all potential investors, including financial institutions," Tim Clark, one Williams' advisors, was quoted as saying.

Potential investors would be sounded out in the first half of next year, though it was possible the singer would re-sign with EMI, he added.

The potential scheme would involve financial partners paying a cash advance in the hope eventual earnings exceeded the investment.

Previous singers to have tapped financial markets include David Bowie, who launched the Bowie Bond in 1997, when he raised $55 million guaranteed against 10 years' worth of royalties generated by his songs.

Clark was unavailable for comment.

RONAN AND ROBBIE ARE MAGIC

Magic 105.4 has secured a host of popular singers and celebs during the run up to Christmas to host guest programmes.

Ronan Keating started off with a special two hour programme yesterday afternoon, whilst Robbie Williams takes over on December 13th.

Rod Stewart, Alesha Dixon, Boris Johnson and Jackie Collins are all lined-up to guest host on the station too.

Pete Simmons, Programming Director at Magic 105.4 said: “The calibre of celebrity presenters wanting to enter our studios in the upcoming weeks is a clear reflection of Magic 105.4’s ever growing popularity and importance in the London market. The addition of celebrity guests to our strong line up of programming will ensure Magic 105.4 delivers its listeners new and exciting content to lift the mood in London during the winter days.”

WILLIAMS TO OFFER ALBUM RIGHTS TO INVESTORS

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is considering selling wealthy investors the rights to half his upcoming album instead of signing with another record label.

The Angels hitmaker has been open about his ongoing struggles with EMI, but now that he's nearing the end of his current contract with them, he's eyeing investors instead of signing another industry deal.

Financial partners would pay an advance in an $80 million (£50 million) arrangement, which would be returned to them with revenue generated by the pop star's touring and song royalties.

Tim Clark, one of Williams' advisers, says, "Obviously we are talking to several record companies about a new deal for Robbie, but we are also looking at talking broadly to all potential investors, including financial institutions."

However, Clark has not ruled out the possibility that the former Take That star will re-sign with EMI

Robbie Williams rules out early return to touring

Robbie Williams has ruled out any quick return to touring, fearing his "inbuilt" drug addiction could strike at any time.

Published: 12:58PM GMT 25 Nov 2009

Williams, in Australia as he pursues his comeback, blamed his last major tour for landing him in rehab and prompting a three-year career hiatus, during which he grew a bushy beard and developed an interest in UFOs.

"There's no plans to do a tour like the last one I did," he said. "I know what happens to me and where it takes me and which rehab I end up in. I will tour again but it won't be any time soon."

Williams, who will perform later on Wednesday and at Thursday's ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) awards, warned he would always be vulnerable to drugs.

"I have that mechanism inside of me that enjoys not choosing life, that has it inbuilt in my DNA to want to get high," he said. "I don't think that ever leaves. I'm sure it won't."

The 35-year-old former wildman is travelling with his steady girlfriend, US actress Ayda Field, and said the pair have already picked out baby names: Sonny for a boy or Sunny for a girl.

But he remained wary of the pressures of the pop star's life, especially spending long periods on the road.

"It's a really unnatural situation to find yourself in," he said.

"It's such high highs in front of that many people at the stadiums ... and then you go back to the hotel and you go, oh I've eaten the mini-bar again and the Internet isn't doing what it should do and I'm bored with that.

"After nine months of living in an air-conditioned room and just going to the gig you kind of crack a bit. You lose the plot."

John and Edward 'helped' by Robbie Williams

25 November 2009, 08:41

X Factor's John and Edward say that Robbie William's encouragement helped them to stay in the show. They have revealed that his advice helped them keep going in the competition so long.

The Irish twins were eliminated on Sunday night after they were voted in the bottom two with Olly Murs.

The boys have said that popstar Williams kept them going when he was a guest mentor on the show last month.

John told the Daily Record: "The first week, which was Robbie Williams week, that was the week that everyone told us that we didn't deserve to be in the competition but he gave us loads of encouragement and told us to 'let go'.

"We took his advice and made it to week seven.

"We're grateful for his support. We're really glad he's a fan."

The 18-year-olds have given their backing to Essex lass Stacey Solomon to win the show.

The five remaining contestants are to tackle an Elton John/Take That theme on this week's show.

 would of loved to see them tackle a TT song

Robbie Williams on top form as he performs at ARIA Music Awards in Australia - By Rachael Wheeler, Mirror.co.uk 26/11/2009

Robbie Williams was on top form at last night’s ARIA Music Awards in Australia, and by the looks of these new snaps he’s loving life Down Under.

The former Take That star was all smiles as he enjoyed the sights in Sydney before heading to the prestigous ceremony.

Robbie spent plenty of time on the red carpet chatting to his Australian fans and striking poses for the cameras.

And if everything goes to plan, the 35-year-old Brit could be moving to the country.

Last month, he told The Mirror that his girlfriend, actress Ayda Field, felt like they should move to Australia to start a family.

Robbie said: “Ayda had a psychic feeling she would end up in Australia, so I said let's do it.

"I seriously, seriously am wanting to come down there and get a place.

"I want beach, outback, kangaroos in the garden, all in one place. The essentials are kangaroo, rainforest and a tan.

"I can't wait to get there. And Dannii [Minogue] has promised: 'It will be our mission to find you a place - I'm thinking Palm Beach.'”
