Posted November 7, 200915 yr This thread is for our reviews of the album, not media reviews. So posthere what you think of the Robster's 8th album. :yahoo: 1.Morning Sun – The album opener is a world away from Rudebox . Rob deliveres a great vocal on this excellent Beatles-esq track. It sounds like old-Robbie, and really reminds me of one of my all time favourite B-sides – the Rob/Guy penned Coffee, Tea & Sympathy..I love how it builds up with the Sgt Pepper-like horns. Some great lyrics here: 10/10 2. Bodies – Altough there are better songs on the album, this was a very good choice for the lead single, as it being a global smash proves. A classic Robbie soaring anthemic chorus with a great production. The arrangment is fantastic: 9/10 3. You Know Me – The second single is orchastra pop at its best. A great pop tune - very addictive and catchy. It is not everyones cup of tea but I really like it and feel it is a good choice for the second single. And the video is hilarious  8.5/10 4. Blasphemy - Simply stunning. The last ever track Rob wrote with Guy Chambers. We have known about this track for ages, Rob wrote about it in his biography ‘Feel’ and was so proud of it he gave it to David Beckham as a present. You can see why. It is fantastic. His voice is brilliant on it and I love the lyrics. Classic Robbie: 10/10 5. Do You Mind - Reviews have suggested this is a filler - well the album had to have a party rock/pop track and this is it. This is a very catchy number that sounds really great when turned up nice and loud. 8.5/10 6. Last Days Of Disco - This is beyond brilliant. f***ing amazing infact. I adore it  Rob once again being heavily influenced by the Pet Shop Boys here. It has a great beat and I love the chorus “Dont call it a comeback, look what i’ve invented here”. It is especially brilliant towards the end. It is like the sequel to ‘The Actor’ - 10/10 7. Somewhere – Sounds like something Macca would write and I love it. Only a minute long but it is brilliant. Why is it not a full length song?. 9/10 8. Deceptecon – This is brilliant. I love the Bowie-vibe to it. Found it a bit boring on first listen but now I appreciate it for the fantastic track it is. Great lyrics yet again here: 9.5/10 9. Starstruck - Didnt like this when I first heard it but really like it now. Sounds like a mix between George Michael’s ‘Fastlove’, and Rob’s ‘Lovelight’ & ‘In & Out Of Love’. Very catchy tune and is worthy of being the 3rd single - 8.5/10 10. Difficult For Weirdo's - Rudebox lovers will really like this. Experimental Robbie at his best. Very catchy and again heavy Pet Shop boys sound to it. Love this one.: 9.5/10 11. Superblind - Stunning - I adore this. Would've fitted perfectly on Sing When Your Winning. His voice is amazing on it and it sounds like the sequel to the amazing ‘Toxic’.U love the line "Im the genius behind me" - 10/10 12. Won't Do That - Really catchy song. Love the music and the guitar solo. Silly lyrics but amusing. Dont like it as much as I did after I heard it on the Proms, as I find the chorus a bit annoying. : 8.5/10 13. Arizona –This is fantastic and should be on main album. Fits in perfectly with Last Days and Difficult For Weirdos. Chorus reminds me of Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins  - 9/10 Overall, I think this is simply fantastic. Not a bad track on here . It is the perfect blend between old Robbie and experimental Robbie. The only thing missing is a few more rockier tracks, but overall it is easily my fave Robbie album since 2000’s Sing When You’re Winning. Trevor Horn did a wonderful job producing here. Lots of great lyrics and Rob’s voice is excellent. It is the first album since Sing WYW where I don’t skip a single track. Here is where it stands in my rankings: 1. LTAL 2. IBEY 3. SWYW 4. RKTVS 5. November 10, 200915 yr I will do a full review this weekend. Suffice to say my favourite songs on RKTVS are (in no particular order :P ) Morning Sun Bodies Last Days of Disco Starstruck Difficult for Weirdos Superblind And at the moment I think my most favouritist song is...... :naughty: :o :o :o SUPERBLIND
November 10, 200915 yr Author I just had a good look at the booklet and realised Superblind was written with Fil Eisler :o For some reason I thought it was Do You Mind that he co-wrote  Amazing song
November 10, 200915 yr It reminds me of something  Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft type thingy
November 10, 200915 yr Author It is CLEARLY the sequel to 'Toxic' VU3JSBXmr6M Edited November 10, 200915 yr by Scotty
November 10, 200915 yr Toxic      Are we ever going to get a B-sides album?
November 10, 200915 yr Author He did mention in an interview on radio recently when asked that very question that it would be something he would like to do. The next GH package would be the place to do it. A 2 disc collection of all the singles for the normal version, and a special edition with a B-sides CD. Of course a DVD must also be released. But this is EMI
November 10, 200915 yr 1.Morning Sun – A perfect opener for those female fans who watch Loose Women scared off by "his gone mad" Rudebox album. A very mellow melodic Beatles/Oasis track which lyrically infer to the dawning of a new day which after 3 years away from the limelight it is. 9/10 2. Bodies – Having listened to the album the obvious lead single. This Stone Roses/Ian Brown esque track sounds like it should have been next to the Happy Monday's/Shaun Ryder influenced Keep On off of Rudebox, especially on the verses. But the soaring chorus is classic Robbie. A great Trevor Horn produced arrangement. 9.5/10 3. You Know Me – Musically the cousin of Something Beautiful, but its Christmas vibe reminds me of the outro track to a 1990s Richard Curtis romantic comedy. 8.5/10 4. Blasphemy - My favourite track on the album. Musically influenced by that Canadian RW (Rufus Wainwright and his orchestral pop). Stunning lyrics and vocals that would not be out of place on a credible West End musical. The one Guy Chambers co-write sees another classic added to his musical canon: 10/10 5. Do You Mind - Rob does his best Rolling Stones pastiche. To be fair the lyrics are much better than the admittedly catchy riff orientated tune. But filler all the same. 6/10 6. Last Days Of Disco - To Rob fans he has taken the template of Rudebox's The Actor and attempted to perfect it with a far stronger tune. It goes without saying it sounds like he is covering an unknown classic Pet Shop Boys track. The way this track builds to the end of the song is superb and again credit must go to Trevor Horn. 9.5/10 7. Somewhere – Sounds like an unfinished McCartney melody that he has yet to structure into a proper song. Lovely while it lasts 8/10 8. Deceptacon – Reminds me of George Michael circa Older album trying to be David Bowie circa Space Oddity. A very relaxed mature vocal that towards the end reminds me increasingly of 10cc. 9/10 9. Starstruck - The song that starts with the operatic vocals. Probably the one track on the album that can best summarise Robbie's mature sound on this album. Definitely a potential single but a bit too much George Michael after too much Cannabis noodling going on for my liking. 7.5/10 10. Difficult For Weirdo's - My second fav track on the album and the one that sounds the most like his ill fated Rudebox album due to its use of synths and blips noises. Very catchy, superior to anything on the last Pet Shop Boys album. Probably his best lyrics on the album. Production reminds me of the PSBs Left To My Own Devices single which was produced by Trevor Horn. 10/10 11. Superblind - The grower on the album. Has a lovely cinematic feel to it. Again great vocals, great production, great lyrics. 9/10 12. Won't Do That - The love song to his "Swiss Army Wife". Brilliant catchy verse denied being a classic by a disappointing over repetitive chorus. Sounds like it could have come from his patchy Escapology album. 8.5/10 Overall: Robbie played a blinder hiring Trevor Horn who has done the Robster proud. A fascinating album simultaneously different yet reassuringly familiar. It is the perfect blend between old Robbie and experimental Robbie. The paradox is that he sounds much more mature, yet reserved as these lyrics reveal much less about himself then his heading for a breakdown Rudebox album. After the patchy Escapology album, the consistently mediocre, coma inducing Intensive Care album and the experimental, going bonkers Rudebox album this is the first album I would safely recommend to an old school Robbie fan since Sing When Your Winning. Here is where it stands in my rankings / ratings out of 10.0: 1. LTAL 10.0 2. Rudebox 9.0 2. IBEY 9.0 4. RKTVS 8.5 5. SWYW 8.5 6. Escaplogy 6.0 7. IC 5.0 ---------------------- 8. Swing - would not touch with a bargepole as I think Robbie's voice is over hammy and ill suited to Sinatra-esque songs.
November 10, 200915 yr Author I am so glad you really like the album Rich. Great review Have you heard the digital bonus track 'Arizona' yet? I think you will really like that one as well. I'll send you a link if you want. :D Edited November 10, 200915 yr by Scotty

November 11, 200915 yr So you finally bought it  Will it make No 1 in Oz do you think? Yes I brought it, Greenday, Foo Fighters, and Snow Patrol :P I hope so, it was #1 on the mini Album chart they have in store where I brought it. It has a good chance me thinks ^_^
November 12, 200915 yr I bought this on a whim, since I thought Robbie came off really nicely on my casual viewing of Loose Women. Wow, completely blown away! Probably up there as one of my favourite albums of the year already - when the worst track on the album (IMO, Do You Mind?) can be described as 'pretty great', you know you've bought a good album. Can't really be assed to do a whole review, so just a numerical run through below, but suffice to say Morning Sun, Last Days of Disco, Difficult For Weirdos, Blasphemy, Superblind and Won't Do That are stunning, aswell as the current two singles. Morning Sun - 10 Bodies - 9 You Know Me - 9 Blasphemy - 10 Do You Mind? - 8 Last Days Of Disco - can I give an 11? Somewhere - 9 Deceptacon - 9 Starstruck - 8 Difficult For Weirdos - 10 Superblind - 10 Won't Do That - 9 Yet to hear Amazon, unfortunately! But welcome back, Rob!
November 14, 200915 yr Author I am glad you like it so much Andrew. Its always nice to see someone enjoy an album so much even though they are not a big fan :D Jups, when will your review arrive? :smoke:
