Robbie to make one-off Take That return

Robbie Williams will reportedly bring an end to his 14-year absence from Take That with a one-off performance next week.

The show is to form part of a Children In Need concert, which is being held at the Royal Albert Hall and will also include performances by Snow Patrol, Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, Leona Lewis, Muse and Sir Paul McCartney.

A source told the Daily Star that 'Could It Be Magic' might be the song through which the greatly-anticipated reformation is played out.

"It's the gig where Robbie finally gets back with Take That. They're mates again and doing it for charity seems like the best way," the insider said.

"Everyone fears Rob will change his mind. But he feels it's the right time."

Williams left the boyband in 1995 to launch his own career. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange remained together before eventually splitting the following year. They reformed in 2006 and have recently been working on their first live album Take That Present: The Circus Live, which is due for release at the end of this month.

Robbie Williams rejoins Take That... but just for one night

Robbie Williams performs on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross - but will join his old bandmates on stage next week

Robbie Williams will rejoin Take That on stage next week - 14 years after he quit the band.

The singer will perform with his former bandmates for Children in Need at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday.

Take That and Robbie are expected to top the bill for the one-off gig, which will also features perfomance by Snow Patrol, Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, Leona Lewis, Muse and Sir Paul McCartney.

A source said: 'It's the gig where Robbie finally gets back with Take That. They're mates again and doing it for charity seems like the best way.'

But fans will be desperate to blag a ticket for the sold-out show for their first performance together in more than a decade.

The 35-year-old walked out of Take That at the height of their fame in 1995 after a rift with lead singer Gary Barlow. The group went on to release another single without him but split the following year.

But their comeback as a foursome in 2006 has given the band even greater success.

There have been rumours that Robbie plans to permanently rejoin the band, since ending the feud with Gary in recent years and calling him 'my new best friend'.

Also adding fuel to the fire were reports that Mark Owen, 37, Gary Barlow, 38, Howard Donald, 41, and Jason Orange, 39, were spotted entering a New York recording studio at the same time as Robbie.

He recently had a Take That symbol tattooed on his right wrist.

The source told the Daily Star: 'Everyone fears Rob will change his mind. But he feels it's the right time.'

Take That are expected to perform several of their recent hits such as Rule The World and Patience, with Robbie joining them to sing Could It Be Magic, on which he sang lead vocals, and several of their older songs.

Last night Robbie, appearing on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, said that performing live had driven him to rehab in the past.

'I've always been very nervous [performing for] 80,000 people, it's an unnatural thing to do,' he said. 'You don't know what's going on in my head. It's traumatic, really scary.

'I ended up in rehab again. It was, 'What are you doing to yourself?' I thought it was time to break the cycle.

'I've taken the pressure off myself, it's a part-time gig these days. The missus keeps me grounded. There's no need to take myself out of my mind any more.'

He also talked of plans to have children with girlfriend Ayda Fields.

No Rob ... please ... change your mind. Rob fans and Take That fans want you to change your mind. If you change your mind ... I may download a few of your singles!

i would faint and cry if that happens.. I wasn't a fan of rob back to TT prime in the 90's.. I always was camp Gary.. lol.. I became a ROB die hard, life changing stalker-esque fan in 1998/99 when his second album became a huge hit.. and now I think its right to rejoin them-as long as its only a "guest" appearance (BTW I love how TT changed Could it be magics production to less dance-pop and more generic piano-pop...)

Why can't he just let us enjoy the album release and coming months without having to dread a TT-reunion so soon? I thought he said it wouldnt be for 2 years? I used to think it would be better to just get it out of the bloody way, but even if he performs with them next week, the tabloids will just continue to go on and on and on about it. The next thing will be them releasing a single together. I think all of us who dont want this to happen will just have to not watch/listen to any of it

but how can you neglect a song that features robs angelic voice or his entertaining dance moves?

btw, look at it as if its a "duet"...

I didnt like Rob's voice when he was young in TT. And I don't like the song 'Could It Be Magic' at all, TT's version or Barry's. I'd perfer them to do 'Everything Changes', although anything would be better than the one Rob and Gary share vocals on - the one where they are on a beach in the video

Besides, I can't see the point in the performance. If they pick one of the track Rob sang lead on, then everyone will say he is being big-headed by taking all the spotlight. -_- I just do not want it to happen for so many reason <_<

It's gonna happen eventually because it looks like they ALL want it to happen ...might as well be now B)

I tell you what...if RKTVS makes it to No 1 in the UK it will definately happen ...if not I doubt it so Norma you better get on your knees & start praying for failure ;)

I hated the Take That cover of Manilow's song ... it was a song I used to love until they murdered it. It was only when they stripped it back to how it should be sung on the BW Tour that I forgave them for their first monstrosity. If this frigging reunion thing has to happen (for a one song only) then I'd rather it was Everything Changes. And then they can shake hands and go their separate ways again ... they've pacified the seven Take That fans that want it to happen.

Well going on the LW comments, it thankfully doesnt seem he will be performing with the lads anytime soon (ie on Thursday). It didnt sound as defnitive as it has lately - He said it depends what he feels over the coming months and how they feel too, so does that rule out the CIN? He seemed to hang up the phone when asked about it this morning on radio

I'm suprised he wasnt at Mark's wedding though. I presumed he wouldve flown back Sat night or Sun morning from Germany. Although I supose if he had to be on LW and do radio interview this morning, it is understandable.

Cheers Scotty ... that's good to hear! I may stay in and watch the concert then unless my quiz-mates give me a better offer! We've been winning big-time lately (and its all because of ME!)

I was surprised Rob wasn't at Mark's wedding ... I thought they were best mates at one time.

Robbie Williams denies Take That reunion

Thursday, November 12 2009, 16:22 GMT

Robbie Williams has brushed aside reports that he is to rejoin Take That for a one-off Children In Need performance tonight.

It has been widely claimed that the singer will join his former bandmates to perform a song at this evening's charity show at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Williams has been booked to appear at the concert, but told Key 103 of rumours of a full-band comeback: "No not at all. We are going to be in the same building at the same time."

According to Music-News, when asked if the group would be singing together, Williams responded: "No, we're not."

A BBC spokeswoman confirmed that the reports of a full original Take That performance were "categorically not true".

Williams recently admitted that he had "done bits and bobs" with his former bandmates and planned to work with them again in the future.

Thank god for that

Although apparnelt they are going to be singing Hey Jude with Macca, or some sort of Beatles medley. :o

Apparently TT introduced Rob after thier opening performance and they all huged, so a reunion os some sort on stage but thankfully no singing. Rob sang Bodies and You Know Me :D

Williams refused to be drawn on reunion performance plans

Robbie Williams has joined his former Take That bandmates on stage at the Children in Need charity concert, but there was no reunion performance.

Take That opened the show at London's Royal Albert Hall before Gary Barlow introduced "old friend" Williams, who then performed solo material.

When asked afterwards about performing with his former band, Williams admitted that "something's planned".

Sir Paul McCartney and Dame Shirley Bassey are also appearing in the show.

The event has been organised by Barlow, with more than £500,000 raised from ticket sales, which were allocated by ballot.

After Take That's opening performance of their song Greatest Day, Barlow told the 4,500-strong crowd: "What a perfect night for us to introduce an old friend."

Williams then appeared on stage before moments later being left to perform songs from his new album, Bodies and You Know Me.

Afterwards, he said: "I started tearing up just before I came on, and the lads were singing and knowing it was just about to happen and knowing what the reactions were going to be like, and then all my team were like 'Please don't cry'.

"And I think we should have milked it for a lot longer than we actually did. I think Gaz, in his wisdom, went, 'Right, we should get off now, let the lad do his singing.'

"I was trying to get them back to do a bow and everything. That's the first time in 15 years, we should have at least stayed there for 10 minutes."

Earlier the Sun had claimed that Williams, who left Take That in 1995, would perform with the band during the show, but the BBC, which will be screening the concert, said that was "categorically not true".

'Prettiest girl'

Other acts on the bill include Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, Mika, Muse, Dizzee Rascal and Katherine Jenkins.

Some of the artists are due to sing unique "one-off" duets together, such as Cheryl Cole and Snow Patrol.

Earlier on this week, it was announced that the X Factor judge would sing Martha Wainwright's lines from the Snow Patrol song Set The Fire To The Third Bar.

Frontman Gary Lightbody told the Spinner Music website that some people had "raised an eyebrow" when they heard about the collaboration.

Meanwhile, Lightbody said there were other unexpected duets planned at the charity concert.

"Everyone doing that gig has to duet with someone from the gig," he said.

"Everyone gets a partner, it was like getting a partner at school. We got the prettiest girl in the class.

"People have raised an eyebrow now and again when we've mentioned we're doing it with Cheryl Cole but I think it's going to be a really interesting experience."

In October, Barlow told Radio 1 breakfast show presenter Chris Moyles that each act would be doing two songs, but promised there would also be "three or four one-off duets that have never been seen before".

I think the whole thing was handled quite well actually. Much better than I expected. Nice for them to be on the same stage (it seems to make them happy) but without singing together.

I must admit ... I'm beginning to think that the friendship is actually real now! Unless Rob has totally fooled everyone again ... but he actually seemed quite genuine in the BBC interview. I don't know ... maybe this 'a year or so from now' means that Take That and Rob have a cunning plan to knock X-Factor out of Christmas 2010! Maybe the can't do it individually ... but they possibly could do together? I think even I'd be up for that!

I agree Norma. The Cowell XF machine needs to be stopped and if anyone can do it it is Rob and TT together. Tbh, as much as we both and many others on both sides, do not want this to happen, it is going to happen and it seems it will now be more than just a performance. I am not pleased about it whatsoever, but if it has to happen I am not going to waste my time getting annoyed about it. If they are all friends again, I am glad for them, but I have no interest in seeing a reformation, especially of new music. Still, it will please however number of people who like both and the general public who like both.

IF! And only IF ... I was absolutely sure that its what both sides want ... and that neither side is cynically 'using' the other ... then I actually can see myself turning 180 degrees on this! I think they could come up with some really good stuff between the five of them ... enough to kick the $h!t out of Simon Cowell next year. I think even non-Rob/TT bystanders would throw their money in the kitty to see it happen!

Eh? Does this mean something is already afoot?

Fans disappointed by Thursday night's Children In Need gig, which was touted as the band's reunion but turned out to be nothing of the sort, can be reassured that they do plan to perform together and are working on new material.

Williams said he was "very, very excited about a project that's currently happening".

Robbie Williams confirms Take That reunion Speaking about Gary Barlow, Williams said: "Gaz is an amazing, amazing singer-songwriter. I'm honoured to be in the same studio as him... erm... when we do, in the future." He then admitted: "Oh sod it, we've been in and the songs are absolutely amazing."

The band were spotted visiting a New York recording studio at the same time as Williams earlier this year. They last performed together in 1995.

The BBC Children In Need concert had been hyped as the setting for a Take That reunion, with tickets costing up to to £250 each.

However, the band performed separate sets and the closest they got to a reunion was Williams and Barlow briefly standing next to one another for the singalong finale of Hey Jude.

Williams said the real reunion was yet to come.

In an interview with BBC Radio 2, he said: "I want to do it because I've always wanted to be in a gang ever since I left that gang.

"And all the bitterness and resentment has gone now and what is left is a load of love, and watching four guys get together and enjoy each other's company and enjoy the process of writing together. For me, I'm envious of the joy that they're having."
