My point is, it's Susan Boyle all over again. Someone gets overrated and hyped up by the media, and then a group of people hate the person in an attempt to sort of "balance it out" I guess.

I don't like hate, in any form, at all, but if you are going to hate someone, why don't you hate the media who are deifying her? Cheryl may not have done a whole lot to become so popular, but she's also not really done anything to be deserving of death threats (I've seen a few on youtube, twitter and DS). It's just getting over the top. Using the Susan Boyle comparison again. All she did was get up and sing on a talent show. People all around the world started watching her video, and then people in the UK were thinking "But she's not THAT good", and started being really cruel to her. Fair enough, she wasn't THAT good, but you shouldn't hate Susan Boyle herself because everybody all around Europe and the US are watching her on youtube.

It seems to happen a lot now. Whenever people think someone is overrated by the media, they hate the actual person, and it's just really cruel, and pathetic, and if you take the media out of the picture, you often find that you're hating someone who hasn't really done a whole lot bad.

It's probably time for this thread to start getting back on track...... ;)

Cheryl still only No.3, I imagine she'll be No.1 by midnight tonight

Happy to see rihanna at #1 :)

Cheryl will soon be after x factor, which is also good. Fan of both songs & artists.

As much as I LOVE cheryl(i really do) i actually want Riri to beat her:/ Ri has a much beta song IMO:) But l Love Promise This too:)
Can't find Ke$ha on any of the major markets such as US, Canada, Australia iTunes so I'm guessing it's gonna get deleted from the Irish store soon :(

Really? I guess I'm pretty much the only person who thinks that Cheryl has the better song. I think Rihanna's is far too Guetta-esque

And I'm a huge Rihanna fan :o

Actually we do hear about it all the time and yes she did nearly die, I'm not sure you understand how serious Malaria is.

I actually thought the way people reacted to it was kind of strange, if Cheryl was diagnosed with cancer there would have been an out-pouring that would have supassed that of Jade Goody - as it was Malaria and because she lives in a developed country, the reaction was a bit meh. This actually has nothing to do with Cheryl and more to do with how people perseve different diseases.

I've studied Malaria as part of my masters so i do know a thing or two about it.

Millions of people contract it are very ill and then recover.

My housemate is from Uganada and comes accross Malaria quite often and she even said she couldn't believe the fuss.

^ wow @ the tone in here

01. Rihanna - Only Girl

02. Cheryl Cole - Promise This

03. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

04. Katy Perry - Firework

13 and 17. Micheal Buble - Hollywood

16. Brandon Flowers - Crossfire (wtf)

(We Have The Same top four apart from cheryl and rihanna other way around)

as an expert you know there are different types of malaria, don't you? and that she had the worst

because everybody all around Europe and the US are watching her on youtube.

It's really depressing this equals "the whole world" to some people. Oh well...

Shame Cheryl passed Rihanna.

Well, in a dispute Cheryl Cole vs Rihanna, I sincerely hope the UK phenomenon over "Promise This" spreads out in here as Ireland's chart is sadly dominated by American overrated r&b crap. Even though Rihanna's hardly a US artist singing r&b recently, I still much prefer Cheryl Cole's songs.

Yes she is a phenomenon in the UK! I thought she was in Ireland too

To a much lesser extent. Radios over here keep playing her like crazy but general Irish public is completely addicted to urban music from America :puke2:

I think both songs are brill but. Yea, Rihanna does sound very Guetta.

But after THAT xf performance, i still love Cheryl's. But since Rihanna's on XF next week, she'll prob get number 1 next week:)

No more so than the UK, Australia, New Zealand etc. <_<

In fact, the Irish and UK top 20 is practically identical at the moment.
