Seriously? Leona can never win! It's laughable!

Her first day sales are higher than the both the judge whos in front of 14million every week and last years winner!

Flop! LMAO!

Look back at what i said before and see WHY people could contend this as a flop - of course it is far too early to say, but lets be honest, this time last month no one would have guessed that JLS would sell more copies in the first week, for me the fight was always between Robbie and Leona.

And lets be honest, did anyone really expect Cheryl's sales to be higher then what they have been? I really didn't expect her to do this well

I don't get why people are saying Leona's single and album are not doing very well.

Happy sold 85k copies which in an excellent total and would have made her number 1 most weeks. She will be number 4 or 5 this week I suspect with sales of around 55-60k and will probably sell in the region of 300k by the end of the year. What other female soloist has had 3 number 1's, 2 number 2's and a number 4 from their first 6 releases?

50k albums sold on the first day is outstanding. Don't forget this is one day's sales, not 2 as is the case with singles. It is misleading to compare Leona's sales with JLS or Robbie as their albums achieved the highest 2 individual week's sales this year. With albums the best ones are those which stay in the top 30 for months, not necessarily those which sell loads on their first week. I suspect Echo will still be top 30 in 6 month's time.

So? It's still low for a following album that sold 3 Million copies and it will be only the 3-4 highest of the year, she's not so big as we all thought, first with the single now with the album,

I know all her fans can't admit it, it's OK.

Only if Jedward *don't* win.

If they do, they'll have minimal appeal other than to screaming teenage girls, so won't get anywhere near the sales of the wider-appealing Leona & Alex B.

Might affect JLS sales though if they do win. Similar fanbase, switching allegencies ?

XFF singing (nicely) re-hashed MJ song selling at 3.99 vs a new song from current 'popular masses' favourite Cheryl selling for 79-99p ?

I can see how one sold more than the other :P

good sales all round though. Anyone compared to same time last year ?

Interesting - you can download both X Factor and Cheryl for 99p on Itunes...... which i imagine to be the most popular way of buying legal music

Obviously being on X Factor helped, but the reason Cheryl sold so well is because it is an outstanding pop song. At the end of the day, the better songs will sell more irrespective of the artist.

I agree - Fight For this Love has connected with the public, in a similar way Bleeding Love did. I actually believe there were alot of people out there that bought it for the song, not just the X Factor or because she's in Girls Aloud

Shakira back top 40 in album :cheer:

and DIA top 30

for her last tour she released tickets in mid January when OF2/DB had not done well here, and she still sold out in around 6/12 hours :P

And I got 1  :offtopic: sorry

It's because when Bleeding Love was out, everyone was talking about it... I think Happy was supposed to be a massive hit, not only sales-wise but also on "people's lips"... It flopped in USA though and didn't make bigger impact in Europe either.

If it hadn't been advertised in the media, it would've been a weak Top 10 single... but who knows. Persoanlly, I dannae think it is a strong first single.

btw I have seen "Spirit" in Charity Shops in a lot of places - so would imagine half of those who bought it in 2007, won't bother with Echo...

Happy shouldn't have been released first really.

Were they the first edition of Spirit or the deluxe - cos i bought the original Spirit but then they re-released it and yes i got that (I wanted Run and the dvd) and guess where my first copy went to....

Exactly. Some people are never satisfied. Its like a whole world of mm83's out there :( :P

No, the expectation of people like you in that she has to match what she did last time around is unrealistic.

She had Bleeding Love last time around, those songs only come around once in a blue moon for ANYONE, never mind the same person twice.

Agree, FFTL definitely connected with the public as its an excellent track, and that was a huge factor in her sales.

However, the problem that Cheryl has is that although FFTL sold a very similar amount to BL (adjusting for 2007 vs 2009), the album completely tanked in comparison to Spirit. As I have said before, Cheryl is a singles artist, and a very good one at that, but she cannot convert those single sales into huge album sales.

Wow! Leona's sales are lower than I have expected. Probably the bad single choice and being beaten by MMH the previous week costed her some momentum! I always thought the battle for the album of the year was going to be Robbie vs Leona but her sales are low... so it seems more like Robbie vs Jls. I still hope (and believe) though Echo will sell more than Jls in the long term. Perhaps Leona has managed to become a worldwide accepted singer rather than an XF toy, but it costed her a lot of XF fanbase who now have new XF toys to play with. I dont see her selling more than 160k this week
Leona got it twice with her version of Run, so it did feel lightning striking twice. I guess theres expectation for a 3rd

Didnt leona have the fastest selling debut album ever or something? Its a lot to live up to.

Its not a flop, but its dissappointing.

I would never expect Leona to reach the same with Echo - just cos overall album sales have dropped considerably this year, but i thought she might get similar sales to JLS/Robbie
