Mmm, I'm basically working under the assumption I'm likely to withdraw next month. The contest could REALLY do with a break.

Either that or being less frequent. I know there's a schedule or whatever but every 4-6 weeks is way too frequent surely? A lot of online contests do one every 2-3 months which seems less pressured and more laidback. But that's one for you and the mods really, although seeing as it will probably end in another tedious poll that gets nobody anywhere, maybe somebody just needs to make a firm decision and stick with it

I'm not sure that having a 3 month break and then going back to having one every month will change much as clearly a lot of people are in burnout mode with it as it is at the moment.

Indeed, and the only two I've seen in favour of NOT having a break are Jerick and Freeze - and they could always use other contests if they really had to.

I actually thought of a solution to the problem - in the time off, having a smaller scale Unknown Pleasures (for more poppy stuff) - which I feel would solve the problems of the cheapness and provide a little novelty, as well as possibly ending the conundrum as to whether the BJSC is more subject to friendly voting or not :heehee: That way, anyone who wants to carry on gets an outlet, but it's different enough to still allow these things to go on. I'd probably limit it to 26 entries at most.

What the hell is Unknown Pleasures anyway, I've never done that one. How is it diferent to this, and why is it more poppy?

A competition carried over here from CHC. It's more indie based as opposed to BJSC which is more poppy, as CHC was generally a more indie based forum, and on BJ it's based in the indie forum. You can send more or less what you want as long as it's unknown (must be from an artist that hasn't been in the UK top 20 before/song can't have been top 75 at any point in the UK), and also you're not allowed to reveal which entry you sent, which is said to eradicate the friendly voting issue.

why break lol

I participate in Ukmix Forum Song Contest every month and despite no one talks there about entries it's still amazing to participate...the only thing I like about Ukmix is that you have to choose a real country and present an entry from that country...also no top 40 hit in US/UK...ZERO cheap over there.

Decision is made. Elëdan are withdrawing right after The Best Of takes place. ^_^

It's my final year at Uni, and i will definitely be writing my graduation work at the time BJUSCXXXI will be held and i am planning on massively decreasing my online time soon. I'm going to be just like a withdrawing drugs addict, with almost the same symptoms. :(

I'm sure most of you won't miss me since you are so indieists. THE START OF THE BJUSC (further) DECLINE.

IT'S INDIE RIOT BITCH.

And the saddest thing is who is going to give Espen maximum points now every contest?!

P.S.: I shall torture you with my awful song for one more contest though

hmm I don't believe in this...sorry :)

Don't. Your choice.

They're legitimate reasons to leave and everything, and if you did it would be understandable...but Eledan has to be the country with the record for threats of withdrawal that have come to nothing

Except maybe FSR Rontvia :P

Well true, so far it has been 3 times I've done that :kink:

You'll be back :P

And I may not have given them maximum points but Espen have featured in my top three more than once over the last few months :P

I can't bring myself to do it :( I really enjoy it far less than I ever used to, but I feel tied to it somehow  Like I'd feel like I was missing out if I wasn't participating - it's a drug and I need a patch for it :drama: Maybe 5 flops in a row would seal the deal but I've flopped once in the past 2 years :heehee:

WELL if i win BJUSC30 then i'll be staying of course, but i think that might be a bit IMPOSSIBLE to fulfil  Seriously, i find participating even less interesting as right before the break. The massive withdrawal of the more or less 'indie' countries made it even worse. Despite the fact i actually had a hit this month with 'Sjonarspil', it only received big points from like 7-8 people. Out of 35 or so. Laughable quite really. :( And lack of time too. I will not be contributing as much as i used to. I could do a Land Of Jack and not participate in discussions in the forum at all and still take part in the contest, but that does not work for me.

'Eggabac' is destroyed, Eledan are withdrawing, they are going to be the only E country left. Talk about that much pressure?!

Sometimes I feel like this too, like I'm obliged to keep the Dalisskan story going. :P

I'll keep going though as long as I can find a few nice songs out of a contest.

So yeah to sum up

1. I didn't particularly care where i'd finish this time

2. I finished 20th, i.e. the position i debuted in BJSCIV

3. The quality of BJUSC turned into awful if not terrible

Basically, BYE. :(

It's funny how we have polar opposite tastes, and I had the same feeling you had. I could've easily voted for just 10, if not less, and be ok with it. I struggled as usual deciding my bottom pointers, but it was more a case of deciding which average song should get a point

I also had a hard time searching for something I wanted to send, I'm feeling completely uninspired, so I'm not sure I'll be coming back either. Either way, the song you sent was a really pleasant surprise for me ;)

Katie Todd finally making her way to BJSC?!

Nothing's been confirmed but there is a rumour she is in contention to represent Elëdan in magical BJSCXXXIII.
