Posted November 23, 200915 yr U2 have been booked to play Glastonbury 2010. A message on the official festival website confirmed that the band will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night. Organiser Michael Eavis said: "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world! "Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline." A source told The Sun: "In fact Eavis has been asking them for a while now and really stepped up the effort this year. This could be an iconic moment." U2 will play shows in Edmonton, Canada and Minneapolis, Minnesota either side of their Glastonbury appearance. Other bands tipped to play next year's anniversary event include The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, David Bowie and Muse. Glastonbury 2010 takes place from June 23 to 27, 2010 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset. BIG. I have got to say i'm pretty suprised as well.

November 23, 200915 yr http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/nov/2...lastonbury-2010 U2 to headline Glastonbury 2010 Bono and co are slated to play the Pyramid stage's top slot for the festival's 40th anniversary http://i48.tinypic.com/dnhxu9.jpg Glastonbury 2010 headliners ... U2's Bono and Adam Clayton. Photograph: Mark Allan/WireImage.com U2 will headline next year's Glastonbury festival, it was confirmed today. Bono and co have been slated for the Pyramid stage's top spot on Friday 25 June, in what will be their first ever appearance at the festival. Organiser Michael Eavis had promised something special for Glastonbury's 40th anniversary, and in booking a band who have been rumoured to headline every year since the mid 1980s, he's done just that. "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true," Eavis said. "At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world! Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline." Eavis added: "We've been trying for years ... and now we've finally made it happen. I'm sure they will pull out all the stops to make next year's Glastonbury the most memorable ever." U2 will fly to the UK to play the Somerset festival in the middle of their North American tour. Earlier this year, Bono told BBC Radio 1 that U2 had not been confirmed to play the festival in 2010, but was sure they would play Glastonbury at some point. "I know lots of people who love music want us to. It's something we're working up our whole life to do." Tickets for next year's Glastonbury sold out in October after organisers decided to release them early – a scheme that proved successful last year. The festival will take place between Friday 25 and Sunday 27 June 2010. So far, no other headliners have been confirmed. The Guardian is the official media sponsor of Glastonbury festival.
November 25, 200915 yr Author Yeah it's their first time. It's a pretty big thing. I'm no big U2 fan, but for them to play a festival is a big thing as they are pretty much in a league of their own when it comes to gigs and stuff, and they probably are TOO big for festivals. I wonder who else they're gonna get to play though, I think maybe Robbie Williams and The Rolling Stones, but getting U2 is a big coup.
November 25, 200915 yr That's great news Anybody thinking about going? I'll watch on the tv, I don't have any welly boots :P
November 28, 200915 yr Great news :cheer: I agree, U2 prob are one of the few bands who are too big for Glasto along with the Stones, but I think the 40th Anniversary if the perfect time to do this. I hope The Stones do it too, would be brilliant :D I just hope they play a different set then the 360 tour. The last thing they need to do is play their usual 4 new songs at the start - alot of the crowd and people watching on TV wont be big U2 fans so they need to keep it to mainly hits imo. I hope they have something special planned. I wouldnt be suprised though if they brought the Claw with then
December 1, 200915 yr http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8387265.stm Bono says U2 'humbled' to play Glastonbury By Tim Masters Entertainment correspondent, BBC News Bono has said that U2 are "delighted and humbled" to be headlining at next year's Glastonbury Festival over its 40th anniversary weekend. The band will lead the line-up at the Somerset show on Friday 25 June. "Everyone in the band is very excited about it," Bono told the BBC at the launch of an anti-Aids/HIV campaign. It will be U2's first festival gig for more than 25 years and will see them make a flying visit to the UK in the middle of a North American tour. Asked if he would use the festival to promote the campaign, Bono said: "I think it will just be about the music on that day, and that spirit that seems to take over everybody in that sacred ground." He added: "We'll certainly be well-rehearsed, we'll be coming straight from the tour." Red laces Bono was in central London on Monday to launch the "Lace Up. Save Lives" campaign - a partnership between Nike and the (RED) brand, which was co-founded by the U2 frontman. He was joined at the launch, just ahead of World Aids Day, by Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and several other international football stars. The campaign encourages people to buy red laces to help fund AIDS medication and education programmes in Africa. Next year's Glastonbury takes place from 25-27 June - during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. No other headliners have yet been confirmed. David Bowie has denied that he will join U2 on the bill, but it is rumoured that stadium rockers Muse could appear. Tickets for the event sold out shortly after they went on sale last month.
February 2, 201015 yr Other headline acts now announced :w00t: http://www.nme.com/news/muse/49545 Muse and Stevie Wonder set to headline Glastonbury 2010 Michael Eavis reveals who will be joining U2 at festival * February 2, 2010 Muse and Stevie Wonder both look set to play headline slots at this year's Glastonbury festival, organiser Michael Eavis has revealed. Eavis, speaking at the Event Production Show in the Olympia 2 in London today (February 2), confirmed Matt Bellamy's band for the Saturday (June 26) of the event. He said that it was probable that Stevie Wonder will headline the Sunday (27) night, reports Event magazine. Michael Eavis' daughter Emily previously told BBC 6music that they were "still slightly confirming the Sunday night headliner but apart from that, we've pretty much finalised the Pyramid Stage". U2 had previously been announced as Friday (25) night headliners. Hot Chip, Dizzee Rascal, Jack Johnson and Vampire Weekend also look set to play at the Somerset event.
February 2, 201015 yr I love Muse and especially S Wonder but for the 40th Anniversary to go with U2 I was expecting some massive names and suprises such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, David Bowie etc.
February 4, 201015 yr I love Muse too, their latest album is brill! Are there any other acts to be announced? I wonder what songs U2 will sing  Beautiful Day probably not appropriate it's always muddy and raining there
February 7, 201015 yr well, if they ban flags, people will just find something else to wave in the air
May 10, 201015 yr Not too long until Glasto :cheer: Was just looking around U2 forums at what people reckon the band will play and there was a quote from Willie Williams that indicated it would be a one-off setlist designed in a 'once in a lifetime' type of way, so not the standard 360 set :cheer: It needs to be packed with hits and upbeat rockier tunes - perfect for some of the older material to make a welcome return. I hope they do not open with 4 NLOTH songs as it would be madness - alot of the crowd won't be U2 fans and will want anthems that they can sing along to. Having said that I don't think opening with some very well know like 'Vertigo' would be ideal either - too obvious. Something from the 90's would be brilliant such as 'Even Better Than The Real Thing' I hope the setlist is something along these lines - not my dream setlist but a realistic one. 1. Even Better Than The Real Thing 2. Get On Your Boots 3. I Will Follow 3. Magnificent 4. Beautiful Day 5. New Years Day 6. Until The End Of The World 7. I Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For (Stand By Me) 8 Stuck In A Moment 9 Desire 10 Elevation 11. No Line On The Horizon 12. Out Of Control 13. The Unforgettable Fire 13. City of Blinding Lights 15. Vertigo 16. Sunday Bloody Sunday 17. Pride (In The Name Of Love) 18. Walk On 19. Mysterious Ways 20. One 21. Where The Streets Have No Name 22. With Or Without You 23. Bad 24. 40 I also hope for the return of the UK #1 singles 'The Fly' and 'Discotheque' and Hold Me, Kiss Me, Thril Me, Kill Me' would be EPIC at Glasto :D
