No that is the standart U2 set - 23/24 songs - around 2 hours. What do you think they will play?

Willie Williams has confirmed that the new leg of the tour will have a new opener so I think it's pretty much a given they won't open Glasto with 'Breathe'.

Dizzee to take U2's headline slot?

The Press Assosiation

(UKPA) – 3 hours ago

Dizzee Rascal could take U2's place and close the Friday night Glastonbury line-up if Bono's bad back means the band can't honour their headline slot.

According to The Sun, festival organiser Michael Eavis has also put in a call to Chris Martin to check Coldplay's availability.

Dizzee is currently on course to play before U2 at Glastonbury on the Friday evening.

Is this a f***ing joke? Dizzie Rascal is nowhere near even close to being in a league suitable to replace U2, never mind headline the 40th Anniversary of Glastonbury. Surely this has to be a joke? I mean I am sure there are thousands of people travelling from abroad to Glasto this year to see worldwide performers - and will have no clue who Dizzie even is. Very few rappers can pull of headling such an event - Jay Z did it because he is in a league of his own and is probably the biggest rapper on the planet - Dizzie is frankly a joke for little kids in comparison and it would be utterly laughable to have to as the headliner any year, let alone the 40th Anniversary.

It would make sence for Coldplay to replace U2 - as although I am far from a fan and think they are a second-rate U2 at best - they are at least the next biggest (not best) band on offer and are a similar type of act at least. In an ideal world The Rolling Stones would step in but that is highly unlikely. Getting U2 was such a huge coup and unless The Stones replace them the headliners certainly does not indicate it's the 40th, but rather just another year.

I think it's highly likely U2 will cancel the gig as even if Bono has recovered somewhat within the next 4-5 weeks he won't be 100% and therefor there is no point in doing it if they can't give it there all. Besides there is always next year...:D

It's amazing that last year Bruce and Neil Young headlined the Fri and Sat, and this year it was meant to be U2 and Stevie - how can you even mention Dizzie Rascal along with these legends? At least get Eminem or some other rap legend, but Dizzie is just about as lightweight as a rapper can get and appeals to mainly kids for obvious reasons.

U2 cancel Glastonbury and US tour after Bono's injury

U2 have pulled out of the Glastonbury Festival and postponed their US tour after Bono had emergency surgery to save him from possible paralysis.

The singer, 50, had a back operation on Friday after suffering an injury while training in preparation for the tour.

Neurosurgeon Joerg Tonn said: "The surgery was the only course of treatment for full recovery and to avoid further paralysis."

Bono, who must recuperate for the next two months, said he was "heartbroken".

They were due to headline Glastonbury on 25 June, in the middle of their 16-date North American tour, which was booked for June and July.

While the surgery has gone very well, the coming weeks are crucial for a return to full health

Dr Muller Wohlfahrt

Prof Tonn told the Reuters news agency Bono had been "in severe pain with partial paralysis of the lower leg".

The frontman is "now much better with complete recovery of his motor-deficit", he continued.

"His prognosis is excellent but to obtain a sustainable result he must now enter a period of rehabilitation."

Dr Muller Wohlfahrt, who also treated the star in Munich, Germany, explained: "Bono suffered severe compression of the sciatic nerve.

"On review of his MRI scan, I realised there was a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc, and that conservative treatment would not suffice.

"We are treating Bono as we would treat any of our athletes and, while the surgery has gone very well, the coming weeks are crucial for a return to full health."

His rehabilitation will begin in the next few days, with the intensity increasing over the next eight weeks.

WHO WILL GLASTONBURY TURN TO?

COLDPLAY - Personal friends of the Eavis family and headliners in 2005 and 2002.

KINGS OF LEON - Their headline slot in 2008 catapulted them onto the A list. Already playing London on 30 June - days after Glastonbury.

DIZZEE RASCAL - Immediately below U2 on Friday night's main stage bill.

ROLLING STONES - As with U2, Michael Eavis has been trying to book the rock legends for years.

LED ZEPPELIN - Jimmy Page told BBC 6 Music today he would not rule out an appearance.

KYLIE MINOGUE - She pulled out of a headline slot in 2005 and could make up for it. Has a new album to promote.

The band's manager Paul McGuinness said the group were "devastated" at postponing the concerts.

"For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow," he said.

"His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono makes a full recovery."

Glastonbury had been attempting to book U2 for many years and their appearance was expected to be a highlight of the event's 40th anniversary.

The band said they had written a new song for the occasion.

"I'm heartbroken," he said. "We really wanted to be there to do something really special."

Bono phoned festival organiser Michael Eavis on Tuesday morning to break the news.

Mr Eavis said: "It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed. Clearly they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid Stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them."

'Best wishes'

He declined to comment on a possible replacement. "Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery," Mr Eavis added.

Dizzee Rascal, who is below U2 on the Pyramid Stage bill on Friday 25 June, could now take the headline slot. Festival favourites Coldplay have also been mentioned as possible replacements.

The festival has had to cope with headliners pulling out in the past.

In 1995, The Stone Roses cancelled when guitarist John Squire broke his collarbone in a cycling accident. Pulp were brought in as last-minute replacements.

In 2005, Kylie Minogue withdrew following her diagnosis with breast cancer. Basement Jaxx were promoted to fill in.

U2's North American dates will be rescheduled.

Their 360 Degree tour earned the band about $109m (£75.3m) in 2009, making it the most profitable tour of the year, according to Billboard magazine.

Possible replacements

The Killers

Pink

Or Cheryl Cole obviously -_-

Looks like they may well be playing Glasto in 2011. But don't bother trying for tix. They sold out in 4 hours today. That's what always amazes me about Glasto. People spend a fortune on tickets before the acts are even announced. What if you hate them all?

U2 drop big Glastonbury hint!

U2 have dropped a big hint that they'll be at Glastonbury Festival next year.

Posted on their official website (here) last night, around 36 hours before tickets are due to go on sale, are the following words...

Tickets for Glastonbury 2011 go on sale this weekend. Will U2 fans finally see 'Glastonbury' at Glasto?

Glastonbury's Michael Eavis has said he'd like U2 to play in 2011 after they missed their slot at Worthy Farm this past June.

Looking at the tour dates - there is a gap in the band's schedule ahead of the East Lansing show on June 26th which would make the Friday night a possibility.

The most Paul McGuinness would say was, 'We're certainly excited about our plans for next year. Watch this space!'

The fact that they're putting these words on their website suggests that they're likely to play and to encourage people who want to see them to buy tickets.

Yep even U2.com said they are free on the date so it is pretty much a given they are headlining this year pending any more health problems. :P

I would have loved to go but tickets are too expensive tbh and I am hoping rumours are true about the Aviva dates.

I don't fancy Glastonbury. Full of posh folk in designer wellies <_<
