November 27, 200915 yr Author See, i'm reluctant to download these albums from these hipster-experimentally/electronicy artists because most of the time they seem to be glaringly pretentious, even if they have one good track (i.e. Washed Out, and others) http://i36.tinypic.com/nch0tz.gif
November 27, 200915 yr Author SO Y'ALL, like penis size, things change. And I just realized I have literally 0 time to do this $h!t tomorrow because I am an incredibly popular guy. SO HERE ARE 10 MORE. ;D LOVE Y'ALL. I was jking Harve. <3 Thanks for the comment. Not doing video recomendations for these. If there's one in particular you want to hear, I can link you up. But in general, just look them up on Youtube. THINGS WILL POP UP. I'll probably do recommendations for the Top 10. 30. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/0f/Arular.jpg/200px-Arular.jpg M.I.A. Arular 2005 XL Most critics seem to prefer Kala to Arular. Perhaps it's just for nostalgia's sake, but I've always been one for the dancehall vibe she had going for her on Arular. Amazeee. Fast paced, furious, and AMAZING to dance. This album makes me go crazayyy. 29. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/1d/Yyy-fever-to-tell-cover.jpg/200px-Yyy-fever-to-tell-cover.jpg Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever To Tell 2003 Interscope Garage rock at its finest basically. The fact that this album goes from one end of the spectrum of emotions to another with just one track change is mindblowing. Karen O is screaming out of her mind in 'Man' / 'Tick' and the next minute she's singing sweetly in 'Maps'. GORGEOUSSS. Such a great and underrated record. Their best. 28. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/00/Silentalarmcover.jpg Bloc Party Silent Alarm 2005 Wichita Bloc Party's finest effort. And their only truly good release, sadly. But, that being said, what a stunning album it was. It really enraptures what indie rock CAN and should be, even if mainstream. Kele's vocals on this are just so sincere and haunting, especially on This Modern Love. It's fun, too. It really captures everything a mainstream rock record can and should be. Little Thoughts is a personal favorite, along with Banquet obviously. 27. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/6e/Wind_In_The_Wires.jpg/200px-Wind_In_The_Wires.jpg Patrick Wolf Wind in the Wires 2005 Tomlab I used to consider this my favorite album of all time. It's a really gorgeous, earthy record with great storytelling via Patrick. The pure fury of this album in places is great. It's like a storm, starting off slow and ominous and leading to the climax during Tristan, and then pulling otu with Lands End. Patrick's creative peak was definite during the recording of this. 26. http://www.istoica.com/speak/uploaded_images/Lcd-Soundsystem-725127.jpg LCD Soundsystem LCD Soundsystem 2005 DFA James Murphy deserves a great deal of credit. He basically brought dance back to the indie scene and made it an interesting and creative genre. Not so much with this specific album, but with a slew of singles starting with Losing My Edge, as well as his creation of the DFA label and his remixes and support of bands like The Rapture, etc. Aside from that, this is just a purely stunning record. A combination of old singles (Disc 2), which would be strong as an album themselves, as well as new material (Disc 1) create a really rewarding listening experience. 25. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b5/Radiohead.kida.albumart.jpg/200px-Radiohead.kida.albumart.jpg Radiohead Kid A 2000 Parlophone Ah, Radiohead's ultimate release. This is pretty much hailed by most magazines/journals as the definitive best album of this decade. I disagree. But its unquestionably a great release. The effect its had on electronic music and the music industry is phenomenal. Despite being leaked online months prior to release, it debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. Becuase it's just that damn good. People have created theory's based around the album. Some even say it predicted the events of 9/11 and after. Despite what you believe, it's just a great, haunting record. It's a mindf*** basically. Listen to it on drugs; it'll change your life. 24. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/79/Mtzionhehasleft.jpg/200px-Mtzionhehasleft.jpg A Silver Mt. Zion He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corners of Our Rooms 2000 Constellation This album was created after the death of the lead singer of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's dog. It really is that simple of a concept. Yet this album highlights just how painful the loss of a loved one, even a pet, can be. In that way, it's such a universal album. It has hardly any vocals, just strings, and its concept is something that most people above the age of 15/16 can relate to in some way. Death is a devastating and powerful occurrence, yet humans can be in their most creative states after it. This album has helped me get through a great deal of things. 23. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c3/Alopecia_why.jpg/200px-Alopecia_why.jpg Why? Alopecia 2008 Anticon What a bizarre and fulfilling album. Why? have never been ones to craft direct and purposeful lyrics, yet somehow this album just comes through to the listener. The wordplay is clever; the instrumentation is fabulous. Something about this album just works incredibly well. It's worth a listen from indie rock fans. 22. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bb/Crystal_Castles_-_Self-titled.png/200px-Crystal_Castles_-_Self-titled.png Crystal Castles Crystal Castles 2008 Last Gang Ah, Crystal Castles. This album isn't rated highly among many, but I just cannot get enough of it. It's fun. It's intense. It makes you want more. And it really highlights everything Crystal Castles are trying to do with music, and that makes it so successful. You're not going to get the emotional attachment to this album like one would A Silver Mt. Zion's, but you're still going to go through a whirlwind of emotions and feelings while listening to it. 21. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/38/Album_Cover-The_Fame.jpg/200px-Album_Cover-The_Fame.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/35/TheFameMonsterStandard.jpg/200px-TheFameMonsterStandard.jpg Lady Gaga The Fame / The Fame Monster 2008/2009 Interscope All hail Lady Godga. I'm just going to come flat out and say it: Lady Gaga is the queen of pop. Yes, she's only had one/two albums. Yes, Britney and Madonna have been around longer. But she beats them both. Never have I seen such a creative force in popular music. She's unapologetic for her style. She's crazy. She's intellectual. The girl can SING. The music industry would be incredibly boring atm without her. She's put out two really effing good records here, and I had to put them together as she considers them a pair almost. The Fame Monster is a further exploration of the concepts she developed with The Fame. Her music can be seen as bland / lacking / not living up to the hype that she creates for herself. But that's just it. It's pretty much pop music pure at heart. She doesn't mean for it to be super intellectual. It's her performance / style / attitude beyond the record that make these such great records. She's even stated she's inspired by Andy Warhol / the idea of making art from something commercial. And I think she has here. I don't care if you disagree or whatever, but you can't deny she's at least made some effing catchy songs. I can't wait to see where she goes in the next few years. Move over Madonna / Britney. The real deal is here. YAY TOP 20 SOON. <3
November 27, 200915 yr I completely agree with your opinion on GaGa's music. Can't add anything more. I hope she doesn't pull out in the future. I'd not say she beats Madge already though but she's definitely going to do it in the next year or even earlier. <3 Also Crystal Castles
November 28, 200915 yr HUSH YOU ASHFORD. :( It's better than Amnesiac and In Rainbows imo. Far far better actually. Amnesiac has I Might Be Wrong and Pyramid Song and In Rainbows has Nude and that's it. D; And I am tres hilarious Tyler. Yes. But it actually doesn't. I hate that album. 40. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/96/Feverray.jpg/200px-Feverray.jpg Fever Ray Fever Ray 2009 Rabid Keep the Streets Empty for Me This album is pure TRIBAL at points. Epic. It takes the moody elements from The Knife and plays them up beautifully. You need to be in the right mood to enjoy this kind of stuff, but when you are its wonderful. Karin's vocals are absolutely gorgeous as always, perfect for this kind of music. One of 2009's strongest. 39. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/0f/Kill_the_Moonlight.jpg/200px-Kill_the_Moonlight.jpg Spoon Kill the Moonlight 2002 Merge Spoon have always been less is more kind of people. The first track on this album is three chords total, I believe. And it rocks. Rock n' roll! I was always a bit disappointed with what I heard from the Fever Ray album, I couldn't get into it which was a shame as I love The Knife. :(
November 28, 200915 yr 36. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/54/Cat_Power_-_You_Are_Free.jpg/200px-Cat_Power_-_You_Are_Free.jpg Cat Power You Are Free 2003 Matador I was a bit late to the Cat Power train, but now that I'm on it I don't want off. Her voice is phenomenal. Such a little bluesy record. A real perfection of her 'sound'. She's not likely to ever create an album as good as this again, so let us just remember what a great record this is. <3 Baby Doll is a fabulous song as well. "Don't you want to be free?" So bluesy and wonderful. 35. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b6/THS_BAGIA.jpg/200px-THS_BAGIA.jpg The Hold Steady Boys and Girls in America 2006 Vagrant Seven Nation Army "Boys and girls in America have such a sad time together." More Americana hereee. A lot of people write off The Hold Steady as bar rock or a Bruce Springstein rip-off, but they're so much more. There's such a great nostalgia to their album. You listen to it and reflect on past parties, past get togethers, relationships, etc. It's a wonderful experience. The Hold Steady! 'Boys & Girls In America' is easily their best album, although I do think all are great.

Love LCD Soundsystem, but I'm not so bothered with the debut as 'Sound of Silver. I kind of agree with you on Lady Gaga, and whilst she does have some really amazing pop songs I think I like her more than her music. She's wonderful but stuff like 'Eh Eh' is beyond naff, definitely one of the worst things I've heard all year!
November 28, 200915 yr 21 Lady Gaga The Fame / The Fame Monster 28 Bloc Party - Silent Alarm 33 Britney Spears - Blackout  Pop classic! 75 Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours 88 Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad 95 Brandy - Afrodisiac
November 29, 200915 yr Author The Hold Steady are fabulous. <3 Woo Americana. Silent Alarm is greattt. As for LCD, well WE SHALL SEE which one I prefer once the list is over. But you should give the debut a few more listens. Some phenomenal tracks. Thanks everyone for the comments. ;o 20. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/64/BurialUntrue.jpg/200px-BurialUntrue.jpg Burial Untrue 2007 Hyperdub Haunting. Dark. Moody. Burial were absolutely robbed of the Mercury prize. Ah well. This album can remain a secret treasure then. It's absolutely fabulous if you have yet to hear it. Give it a spin. You won't regret it. 19. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/83/The_Milk-Eyed_Mender_cover.jpg Joanna Newsom The Milk-Eyed Mender 2004 Drag City Joanna. <3 Her debut release proved she had tons of talent. And that VOICE. Incredible. She's obviously love / hate but this seems to be the more popular of her two releases and the more accessible, with songs at normal length. It's still amazingly charming though, and her lyrics are as great as ever. 18. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/95/Street_Horrrsing.jpg/200px-Street_Horrrsing.jpg Fuck Buttons Street Horrrsing 2008 ATP A mindf*** of a listen. I literally said holy $h!t while giving it my first listen. It's that incredible. 17. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e0/Bon_iver_album_cover.jpg/200px-Bon_iver_album_cover.jpg Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago 2008 Jagjaguwar One of the most subtle and touching records of the year. Bon Iver's a bit of a star now, but its well deserved. This folk album is a triumph. 16. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9a/Thereminder.jpg/200px-Thereminder.jpg Feist The Reminder 2007 Arts & Crafts Feist. <3 She has an amazing songwriting ability. Gurl just knows how to craft a song. And boy can she SING too. What a lovely woman, and what an amazing release. 15. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8f/Franz-Ferdinand.PNG/200px-Franz-Ferdinand.PNG Franz Ferdinand Franz Ferdinand 2004 Domino Franz Ferdinand were pretty much, along with Radiohead, my introduction to good music. I loved this when I bought it in 2004 (funny enough, it was the last album I ever bought before torrenting), and I still adore it now. SO CUM ALL OVER ME MICHAEL. 14. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b0/Animal_collective_merriweather.jpg/200px-Animal_collective_merriweather.jpg Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion 2009 Domino Animal Collective confuse a lot of people. But for those who 'get' it, the listen is definitely rewarding. Basically, all of these songs are pop songs with crazy noises layered on top of them. It's a wonderful juxtaposition. 13. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/0f/HePoosClouds.jpg/200px-HePoosClouds.jpg Final Fantasy He Poos Clouds 2006 Tomlab I would like to father Owen Pallett's children. <3 This album is all about falling in love with a video game character and also has some relation to World of Warcraft that I don't grasp as I don't play it. Sounds nerdy right? It is. But it's incredibly artistic and beautiful too. The idea of virtual reality and virtual love make for an exciting litsen. 12. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/87/ApologiestotheQueenMary.jpg/200px-ApologiestotheQueenMary.jpg Wolf Parade Apologies to the Queen Mary 2005 Sub Pop Basically, all indie rockers should strive to make an album as good as this. Wolf Parade really raised the bar in indie after this long awaited release, and boy was it worth the wait. "But God doesn't always have the best goddamn plans, does he?" 11. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/ff/LCD_Soundsystem_-_Sound_of_Silver.jpg/200px-LCD_Soundsystem_-_Sound_of_Silver.jpg LCD Soundsystem Sound of Silver 2007 DFA LOL yeah Sound of Silver > their self titled debut. But James Murphy is full of talent. And this album is just...guh. Amazing. Some really incredibly songs on here. Someone Great, North American Scum, and New York I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down are all absolutely amazing tracks. Who knew James Murphy could tackle a ballad and not only make it work but make it one of the best of the decade? Love love love this album.
November 29, 200915 yr M.I.A. - Arular Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever To Tell Bloc party - Silent Alarm  Radiohead - Kid A  Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago  Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary I never really got the Crystal Castles album, 'Vanished' and 'Alice Practice' were marvellous though. Lady GaGa makes some great pop and I love the image she has created. I got a bit bored of the Feist album :( I completely love 'All My Friends' and think 'Someone Great' is great, the full album package never grabbed me though. Edited November 29, 200915 yr by Ashford.
November 30, 200915 yr Author 10. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/ff/RobynUKcover.jpg/200px-RobynUKcover.jpg Robyn Robyn 2007 Konichiwa Robyn knows how to make pop. And boy does she make it GOOD. This album is so good it was fresh from 2005 - 2008 basically, with Robyn releasing singles from it every year. It's an incredible, ballsy record, especially considering she walked away from a major label to do it. SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY, YOU IS A PUNK. 09. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a3/Kanyewest_collegedropout.jpg/200px-Kanyewest_collegedropout.jpg Kanye West The College Dropout 2004 Roc-A-Fella Kanye's finest production. He makes insane beats and has ridiculously good lyrics. He may not have the best flow, and I believe his talents suit him more as a producer than as a rapper, but this is an incredible album. Jesus Walks, Slow Jamz, Breathe In Breathe Out...there are just too many good tracks on this album not to recognize it as amazing. TEAM KANYE. 08. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/50/Pandabearpersonpitch.jpg/200px-Pandabearpersonpitch.jpg Panda Bear Person Pitch 2007 Paw Tracks Despite Animal Collective being one of the largest indie bands in the world atm, the best Animal Collective release is easily Panda Bear's solo effort, Person Pitch. It's dreamy, earthy, catchy...Panda Bear really knows how to craft a song and his influence on the band is easily apparent. He needs way more singing time in Animal Collective. 07. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4f/Saturdays_=_Youth_M83.jpg/200px-Saturdays_=_Youth_M83.jpg M83 Saturdays = Youth 2008 Mute I get nostalgic listening to this album and I'm still a teenager. Saturdays really are youth...gahhh I adore this album and all it stands for. 06. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a1/Sleater-Kinney_The_Woods.jpg/200px-Sleater-Kinney_The_Woods.jpg Sleater-Kinney The Woods 2005 Sub Pop Heavy $h!t. This is pure rock n' roll. "Did you ever get the feeling that you don't belong?" Screams Carrie on the track What's Mine Is Yours. This album is an anthem for outcasts. An intense listening experience. You absolutely have to hear it if you have yet to, especially if you're more into rock than indie. 05. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/53/TheKnifeSilentShout.jpg/200px-TheKnifeSilentShout.jpg The Knife Silent Shout 2006 Rabid Ah, The Knife. <3 What wonderful electronic music they made. It's a very social album. I'm always juts leaving it playing while talking with friends / etc. It's dark and moody too. Really captures everything they stand for as a band. Some of these tracks live are STUNNING as well. Love them. <3 04. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/00/TheMoonAntarctica.jpg/200px-TheMoonAntarctica.jpg Modest Mouse The Moon & Antarctica 2000 Epic Depressing and moody, but absolutely gorgeous. It's a cathartic experience. Yes, it's an incredibly lonely and sad album with many tracks dealing with isolation / life / etc., but you come out of it with a positive emotion. You've cleaned yourself of all your bad emotions. And it has it's positive moments too, especially in the song 'Lives'. "And it's hard to remember we're alive for the first time / and it's hard to remember we're alive for the last time / and it's hard to remember to live before you die / and it's hard to remember that our lives are such a short time / and it's hard to remember when it takes such a long time / it's hard to remember." Live your life. 03. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/25/ArcadeFireFuneralCover.jpg/200px-ArcadeFireFuneralCover.jpg Arcade Fire Funeral 2004 Merge Arcade Fire wrote this album after the death of many family members of the band. And you can tell, with death imagery played up in songs like In the Backseat and Rebellion (Lies). But what an incredibly consistent and well produced album. Each song pretty much stands alone wonderfully, from the childhood nostalgic Wake Up "children, wake up / hold your mistake up", to the isolated Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels). They've crafted a world within each song, and play that up with the recurring 'Neighborhoods'. Family, life, death, this album really has it covered. And it's absolutely gorgeous. 02. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/06/Illinois-stevens.jpg/200px-Illinois-stevens.jpg Sufjan Stevens Illinois 2005 Asthmatic Kitty I've praised this album pretty much everywhere on this bored. Sufjan has incredible talent. Yes, this album focuses mainly on the state of Illinois, but that's just merely the surface of how much emotion is in the album. It's easy to relate to, as we all have a connection to our home state, whether it be Illinois or the UK. We want to be proud of it. We have memories in these places. "You came to take us / all things go, all things go." Home is what this album really focuses on, and the memories that we have of these places. Lovely. 01. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4d/Ys_cover.jpg/200px-Ys_cover.jpg Joanna Newsom Ys 2006 Drag City And finally, my absolutely favorite album of the decade. I spent a lot of time debating between this, Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, and Sufjan Stevens, but I think in the back of my mind I always knew this would be number one. Words cannot describe this album. It transcends them. You really just need to listen to this album to 'get' it and 'understand' it. And it will take time. But I promise you, once you do, you won't be able to LIVE without this album. It's gorgeous. Joanna's prose just completes me in so many ways. I've cried listening to this album; it's that beautiful. I see so many things in this album, but the wonder of it is that people can interpret it however they like. They'll listen to and understand songs differently based on their own life experiences and what they want to believe the songs are about. Ultimately, this is just an amazingly intelligent, conceptual, and beautiful listen. My favorite of the decade, possibly ever. Give it a shot. If you dislike it, give it a month, come back to it, but don't let it go. This album is truly something special. It's magical. "And in the lissome light of evening / help me, Cosmia, I am grieving."
November 30, 200915 yr I love this countdown, some albums I'm certain to check out via Spotify/We7 when I have a bit of time (like when I'm off for a week very soon). Let's just say we share two albums in our Decade Top 10 countdown.
December 1, 200915 yr Seriously amazing list, there's barely an album included that I don't like. I'd say that there's 7 of your top 10 albums that will be in with a good shout of making my top 10 too. Ys is a fantastic record, one of the few albums I own that I can say doesn't sound like any other. It's lyrically astonishing and so accomplished musically, her art of storytelling is just completely captivating and I'd echo your comments in so far as everyone should try to hear it - and then repeat play until they love it.
December 2, 200915 yr I'm slightly surprised to see you rank 'Franz Ferdinand' so high! Pleasing though! :D Great to see 'Merriweather' and 'Sound of Silver' in the top 20 too, I'll have to give their debut more listening! Your top 10 is awesome too, 5 will be well inside my top 100, the other 5 I've not heard. I'm not overly fussed with Joanna Newsom but I can see why she's appreciated. I'm going to download Panda Bear and Sleater-Kinney though, I can't see me not loving 'The Woods', what I've heard from them is great!
