The 35-year-old singer was being interviewed on Sydney station 2DayFM when it emerged his girlfriend Ayda Field, 30, was also in the studio. The show's co-host Jackie Henderson - known as Jackie O - mentioned the city was famed for celebrity proposals and asked if Williams "had anything to share". The interviewee played along, turning to Field and asking: "Is there anyone you want to get married to?" Williams then went for a more direct approach, saying: "Ayda Field, I love you so much .... will you marry me?" Field, who is an actress, replied: "Yes, I'll marry you." The former Take That star then told his wife-to-be: "I love you so much. Would you be my betrothed until the end of time?" She replied: "I would love to be your betrothed until the end of time." The public proposal does not come as a huge shock after the singer had regularly spoken of his hopes of marriage in recent interviews. The date of the forthcoming wedding remains unknown. November 27, 200915 yr Author Robbie Williams "proposal" was a joke: spokesman LONDON, Nov 27 (Reuters Life!) - British singer Robbie Williams "proposed" to his actress girlfriend, Ayda Field, live on Australian radio on Friday, but his spokesman later said it was a joke. Field was in the studio with Williams, 35, for the "Kyle and Jackie O" show on Australian radio station 2DayFM in Sydney to promote his new album "Reality Killed the Video Star." Presenter Jackie Henderson was telling him that Sydney has a bit of a reputation for proposals with celebrities at which point Williams turned to Field and said: "Is there anyone you want to get married to?" She replied: "This is so awkward." To which Williams said: "Will you marry me?" After a pause, Field, 30, answered: "Yes, I'll marry you." When asked whether Williams was serious, his London-based spokesman said: "He did say it, but in a jocular manner. They are not engaged." One of Europe's most successful entertainers, Williams rose to fame as a member of the hit boy band Take That before forging a successful solo career. The singer, who now lives in Los Angeles, has been out of the public eye in the last few years since he left a U.S. rehabilitation centre in March 2007 where he was treated for prescription drug addiction. His new album is his first release in three years. http://www.reuters.com/article/mediaNews/i...E5AQ14P20091127

November 28, 200915 yr http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Politics/...In-Jest/Article Robbie: My Marriage Proposal Was A Prank 3:10pm UK, Saturday November 28, 2009 Miranda Richardson, Sky News Online Robbie Williams has put a stop to the "Did he? Didn't he?" whispers after admitting he and his girlfriend are not engaged. The popstar proposed to his actress girlfriend Ayda Field live on Australian radio and even convinced his mother that he was serious. But he has since posted a short message on his official blog which reads: "Hey all. We are not engaged. rob x." However, his mother Jan Williams told Radio 5 Live she was shopping for an engagement card, adding: "I'm really pleased for them. I've got a daughter-in-law." The confusion arose when the former Take That star asked Ms Field to marry him live on Sydney's 2Day FM, sealing the deal with a makeshift ring loaned from the show's host, Jackie O. Williams said: "Will you marry me? I love you so much, would you mind being my betrothed until the end of time?" Ms Field replied: "I would love to be your betrothed until the end of time." Without a ring to offer, the radio presenter quickly removed her "froggie" ring and offered it as a substitute. "Give us your finger, kiddo," Williams said, and presented her with the loaned ring. The surprise on-air proposal left many wondering if the singer was serious. Suspicions appeared confirmed when his representatives in the UK said: "He did say it, but he did it in a jocular manner - they are not engaged." But his mother admitted she had known of her son's intention for about a week so the news was "no surprise" when it came. "I'm very excited, I'm really pleased," she said. "They've been together for nearly three years so it's about time."
