You've just shown yourself up as being a numpty of the highest order.

If you read the avalanche of comments to the article you will realise that you are so far off the mark it is not true.

As for Simon Cowell he earnt $157 million in 2008, hence the money is not the principle, the principle is about deflating his massive crass ego of a businessman who clearly has no love of music and is destroying an artform by turning it into something as joyless as a supermarket brand of baked beans, sticking two fingers up at his X-Factor cartel where major acts now realise that they have to appear on that ghastly excuse of a talent contest that is about as fair and democratic as a Zimbabwean General Election, to stand a chance at reaching the UK#1. For example, just look at Lady GaGa whose Bad Romance was out a number of weeks beforehand yet only reached the chart summit after appearing on the dreadful show.

And also this RATM campaign makes the Zimbabwe election seem honest, spam on Twitter, spam on Facebook, rigging the contest by giving out free codes for a Nokia service, it is cheating of the highest order, the surge for RATM late on Saturday co-incides with the Nokia spam so that is cheating bigger than anything Cowell has ever done

If you want the charts decided in future by spam, deceit and jokers on Facebook then whatever floats your boat but the way the RATM campaign has been handled is way underhand than anything Cowell has ever done, 2 wrongs do NOT make a right

Not to mention the dangerous precedent this sets, RATM get the #1 then we might as well let Facebook decide the chart as any old joker will now try get records to #1 by spam campaigns

You know my opinions on Cowell they are well documented, I can't stand the prick but he has found probably the best vocalist in the world right now in Leona Lewis, he has found Alexandra Burke, he has found the highly talented Joe McElderry so as long as he is not churning out garbage like Robson and Jerome, Mr Blobby, Bob The Builder, Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson I can tolerate him

I was well into the Rage campaign but agree with B.A. Baracus (is that really you? I didn't know you cared so much about the UK chart..) - agree that I wasn't very impressed by the way the nokia thing, for example, was dealt with by some group members. The OCC allow for people enthusiastically buying a few copies, but sharing tips on how to get as many as you can 'without being detected' (er... unless you post it on a public message board, maybe?) is definitely not the same as that.

As far as 'spam' goes, though, it was nothing to the inescapability of X-Factor promotion campaigns. And the whole point was that XF is so behemothic that it takes a huge effort to remotely challenge it. You can't have it both ways - want a number 1 single campaign, but want it to be done on the quiet.

The Spice Girls had a domination on the Xmas #1 too, they had what ? it was either 3 or 4 successive Xmas #1's which is almost X Factor type domination, they would bring out a song regular as clockwork to steal the Xmas #1 and there was no fuss about that

Xmas #1 has for a generation been novelty records, Cliff Richard, charity records, boy/girl band songs etc, Xmas #1 is meaningless tbh its long since lost its elite status

Excluding Band Aid there hasn't been a true seasonal song at #1 for 20 years so Joe or anyone else taking the slot is no big deal, Xmas #1 has long time been damaged goods

But back in those 'good old days' ... people had a choice. I think the top 50 singles were on sale in all supermarkets so Cliff ... and the Spices where genuinely what the people wanted (whether the songs were crap or not). So it is a big deal really ... the monopoly that Simon has in this aspect is cheating as far as I'm concerned. Besides ... if he isn't number 1 this Christmas ... he'll just have to make do with a Wii! Or whatever most ordinary 18 year olds get.

This has been an attack on the puppet-master ... not the puppet. And the puppet in this case was a willing one ... as would have been Stacey, Danyl, Ollie, etc.

Betfair has the minute by minute odds.

Joe is out to 5/1,RATM are now 1/5 ON to win.

Not conclusive but massive swing about 90 mins ago!!!

I guess the bookies have heard!!!! ;)

Victor - those are betting exchanges, though, entirely determined by the money put on and not by any bookmaker's assessment of what might happen. It could just be a load of people who've seen the iTunes bars and think it must be a surefire thing.

Or spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler :naughty:

Hmm, yes. A quick look on Oddschcker and the only two sites that have odds there have Joe at 23/5 and 49/10! :o

Ladbrokes still have 'Any Other' at 11/10 though, so who knows! :o

Either way, I shall be making money. I've put a tenner on Joe at Betfair and a £20 on Rage at Ladbrokes. If Rage (or any other) are number one my £30 returns £42, if Joe is number one my £30 returns £46! I suggest everyone else do the same! :D

Here is an idea:

Whenever a Cowell related act releases - back the opposition!

Leona Lewis is a global star and a great ambassador for this country, probably the finest voice in the world right now of active singers so like or hate Cowell Leona Lewis has been a massive bonus for the music industry and this country so targetting her next would be petty

you talk nonsense... 1 campaigne to deliberately upset the cowell roadshow isnt a 'wrong'... its a protest by people who are sick of the cowell karaoke circus.

i cant see it setting a precident , but id support anything that attacks the cowell bandwagon. i think things would just become confused with several alternatives ...

I just don't see the big deal in a tv show boosting chart sales for artists that appeared in it

Was anyone that appeared on Ed Sullivan show in the 60's pretty much assured of a massive boost in sales ? yes

Was anyone that appeated on TOTP assured of a sales surge the following week ? yes

The likes of Lady Ga Ga going to #1 because of an appearance on X Factor is not a new phenomenon

It is fine as long as it is done ethically, stuff like that Nokia thing is unethical and stoops way lower than anything Cowell has ever done

RATM fans can't complain about Cowell when they are endorsing cheating and rigging, not even Cowell would have pulled a stunt like that, this RATM campaign has lost the moral high ground thanks to the Nokia cheating

You're missing my point though! I'm tired of going over this point about it being the 'time of year' and the fact that the X-Factor song is the ONLY single on sale in all the major supermarkets. Just count up the number of Asdas, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Tescos etc and add them to the number of HMV stores - these are the market places that sell X-Factor. All other artists only have HMV (and any other record shops that just sell records.) This weekend whilst doing my Christmas shop - I probably would have slipped into my trolley a couple of GaGa's even a Robbie single or two as stocking fillers for friends and families. Sadly ... if I was to have done this yesterday ... I would have just been lumbering people with a crap record by a fairly unremarkable singer .... but there were dozens of shoppers around me doing just that. People who wouldn't necessarily go out of their way to go to HMV but would buy something that was shoved under their noses.

Besides ... by all accounts ... Disney has shown an interest in Joe .... he could be South Shields answer to Zac Efron so I doubt he's too worried.

Yeah I am a bit hungover today lol that post was aimed at Richard who was saying about how Lady GaGa had to go on X Factor to get her song to #1

What about RATM's Album? It has been number one on itunes nearly all week now.

Digital albums are not huge, in fact it is around 5%-10% out of total sales.

Shall we have a dedicated spoiler thread. There are a few things to say that can't be said without it being all spoiler.

I think some people need to get over themselves.

If more people buy RATM than Joe then so be i, it just goes to show the level of anger at the x factor.

All these calls of its going to ruin Joes career, don't be so bloomin pathetic. He isn't even that good a winner, nobody will care about him in 12 months time
