Look, my view is this.

I love music: all different kinds, styles and forms of music. The X-Factor is one of the few shows on TV that present music to a large audience. Yes, ultimately, it could be argued that it's just a 'machine' for Cowell to make tonnes loads of money; but as long as I'm not funding his pockets by buying the X-Factor single (however, I would if it was decent and I enjoyed it), or ringing in to vote for a contestant, then it doesn't bother me. I do (sadly ) find it exciting watching people perform on TV. I do enjoying watching people cover other peoples song, commenting on how they did. I couldn't care less if they where talented or not, it's just an entertainment programme not to be taken to seriously, because if you do, you just wont enjoy it.

... although what would be amazing is if someone brought MTV's 'The Cut' back onto our screens. Now that is a decent format of a show. But for the time being, we'll just have to do with what is out there, unless TOTP/CD:UK or a different music show is brought back/created.

If you watch it and add to the viewing figures, then you legitimise everything Cowell does... Even the bad sh"t you may not like.... The solution is simple BOYCOTT X-FACTOR and SONY......

And yeah, that would mean not buying the RATM song as well guys.....

and mushymanrob stop posting things I agree with, it doesnt feel right.

leave out previous disagreements in the hole they belong, they will probably continue whenever jacko etc gets mentioned...but they shouldnt taint other points we make. if we agree, we agree... i try to take every point on the points merit and not because of who posted it :)

others have picked up on the very reason i hate txf...you cannot escape it or its consequences. it does NOTHING for our great musical creativity that the uk has lead the pop world in...

...the other point is of course that theres a generation of kids growing up thinking that this is the norm, weve seen the legacy of SAW's work in the late 80's that opend the doors for the acceptance (by the young mainly) of manufactured garbage, i think even if the x factor stopped now its created the environment for mass marketed karaoke acts hyped up being accepted as 'normal' pop.

And therein lies the problem....

Cowell is FAR worse than SAW ever were... Yeah, they had the "Singing Teaboy" Rick Astley and "Singing Soap Stars" like Kylie, but, let's face it, what X-Factor has given us is a lot worse..... And, you could always take it or leave it tbh, SAW never dominated things to the extent X-Factor has... Even when SAW was around, you still had the likes of The Cure, The Smiths/Morrissey, Sisters of Mercy, The Cult and Echo and the Bunnymen doing alright in the charts as the antidote....

Plus SAW never had a strangehold on the media (just compare the popularity of Pete Waterman's Hitman and Her show that frequently promoted PWL acts compared to the X-Factor) that Simon Cowell has; nor did they destroy the Xmas #1 battle.

SAW's assaults on the Xmas #1 spot:

1987 Rick Astley - When I Fall In Love #4

1988 Kylie & Jason - Especially For You #2

1989 Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas? #1

1990 John Travolta And Olivia Newton-John - The Grease Megamix #5

Not exactly the same dominance as Simon Cowell has created.

Indeed... And Hitman and Her if I recall was on practically in the middle of the night...LOL... It certainly wasn't Prime Time TV... And it certainly never dominated the entire UK music scene for 3 months....
