Posted December 18, 200915 yr The Almost Sats on a Thurs! Why you ask? Well, we`d never get the information from "dead" Britain on Christmas Day. So, better thank Brian/Steve/Don/Simon and the lovely Jo, at DTR headquarters in a difficult week in Berkshire. With the worst snowfalls since January 1986. Global Warming, what's that? Pah!!! And shame on Asda (Lower Earley) for having the most dangerous Car Park/badly run store in the Country (probably). Well done Morrison`s for cleaning up and managing the checkouts brilliantly. Also, thanks to Thames Travel for keeping the rural buses running, while Reading buses couldn`t manage to keep their`s going at all! :puke2: Thursday 24th December The Top Books: Compiled by Neilsen 01 04 THE LOST SYMBOL - DAN BROWN 02 01 GUINESS WORLD RECORDS - GUINESS BOOKS 03 02 ECLIPSE - STEPHENIE MEYER 04 03 TWILIGHT - STEPHENIE MEYER 05 07 GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO - STEIG LARSSON 06 06 WHERE'S STIG - BBC BOOKS 07 18 HANDLE WITH CARE - JODI PICOULT 08 05 DELIA'S HAPPY CHRISTMAS - DELIA SMITH 09 09 OH! Remember we told you that on the combined front last Friday, that Joe was 19,000 ahead...well by mid Saturday, he was 4,000 in front. Then came the hammering by RATM. 63,000 passed through the download sector in less than 12 hours. Some people suggested that this thread helped RATM get there! With nearly 7,000 hits maybe it did. Some others suggested that Uncle Dave, was lying to you as a gimmick! No point in lying, so I don`t. With 40+ years in the business, and so many contacts and the research company we still have shares in, we can`t go wrong. So, stick with us every week. It may not be Official, but I look at it this way...Even in the 70s/80s, at certain points in the week NME/Melody Maker/MRIB were all correct from their break off periods. Except no one chart could be certain in the 50s/60s...So, we always take in the BBC Averaged Chart, not some daft magazine that Guiness Books decided to use for those periods, where most of the time...not more than 50 shops were polled! Let them try and tell you that the Beatles didn`t get to #1 with Please Please Me, or Mr Acker Bilk didn`t either, for instance. Then later they try to say Des O`Conner had a #1! Utter rubbish. No one followed the Record Retailer chart in the 60s. Bad mananagement in the OCC (previously CIN) has even messed up the archive of sales figures, from the 50s-70s...They ain`t got them all. High Street shops in the 50s/60s, either used a local chart or the Melody Maker Top 50 (which surveyed 150 shops by 1968). If you would like a full list of the charts compiled by the BBC, for the proper chart years 1957-69 (a good Christmas present) email me at davericktaylor@yahoo.co.uk Just before the latest singles chart compiled by DTR...A teaser. On Radio One`s Top 40 Show on Sunday, Dev (Devin Griffin to you & me) presents. Now Dev has something in common with former Solid Gold Sixty/Top Twenty host "Tom Browne" (the best ever host)...but what is the connection?

Joe heading upwards of 70,000+ ahead. Could he clear well over 200k, this week? Comparing to previous years i.e. 1967-83, when the chart was never announced over week 52...3 occasions come to mind of a change of #1, when no charts were announced, these were 1970, when Clive Dunn overtook Dave Edmunds. 1971, when Benny Hill was overtaken by the New Seekers. 1980, was dodgy in that St Winifreds/John Lennon/Jona Lewie battle, when apparently the #4 overtook all 3. As Lennon`s other re-entry "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", the #1 that never was...or was it?

December 24, 200915 yr Confused as to Pixie's chart position of #27 when she is #20 on iTunes this week. The Saturdays, especially, must be selling incredibly on other download sites.
December 24, 200915 yr Author Confused as to Pixie's chart position of #27 when she is #20 on iTunes this week. The Saturdays, especially, must be selling incredibly on other download sites. It happen to Pixie last week though. 18 on iTunes towards the end of the week, and only 26 on the proper Sunday chart.
December 24, 200915 yr Confused as to Pixie's chart position of #27 when she is #20 on iTunes this week. well it hasn't had a physical release. how accurate exactly is this chart??
December 24, 200915 yr Author well it hasn't had a physical release. how accurate exactly is this chart?? Overall Pixie has sold better on iTunes, than other Download sites...that`s the position. It`s very acurate at this point. The hidden thing abut iTunes is the other versions available. Not on Pixie, but other songs such as the multi Pogues/Carey/Cheryl etc. We count all versions together, which is what the people at Big Top 40 do. You can check out the top 10 portion at the start of Big Top 40 in comparison (although there may be a little change because it`s 2 days until Sunday). Pixie will be lower, on the proper chart because of other people`s physicals/other download sites...like you say, there is no physical of Cry Me Out. The physicals of Peter Kay & X Factor Finalists push her out of the top 20 on their own, as well as the combination of other sites & other physicals.
December 24, 200915 yr Author Re: the teaser - the connection is mentioned in the first post - I'll not spoil it but its number 6...... :) Where do you get the number 6 from? Or have you spotted another connection there? I was actually connecting the fact that both Tom Browne & Dev have acted in a certain programme. Are we having the same thought?
December 24, 200915 yr Hi Dave, I suspect iTunes 'gift card' affect, tomorrow and Boxing Day, could shake some of these positions up.
December 24, 200915 yr Author No 6 in this week's TV chart???? Number 7 actually mate, but I think we both mean, that Soap!
December 24, 200915 yr Author Hi Dave, I suspect iTunes 'gift card' affect, tomorrow and Boxing Day, could shake some of these positions up. Not only that, but the Christmas songs will start to tumble too...as their popularity where`s off, as Christmas Eve turns to Christmas Day/Boxing Day. Poor Slade, and Bob Dylan looked like he could have a single top 50 hit, for the first time in years! Due to that showing on TOTP2 yesterday.
December 24, 200915 yr Not only that, but the Christmas songs will start to tumble too...as their popularity where`s off, as Christmas Eve turns to Christmas Day/Boxing Day. Poor Slade, and Bob Dylan looked like he could have a single top 50 hit, for the first time in years! Due to that showing on TOTP2 yesterday. Even TOTP tomorrow might have some effect on the chart, not a lot though, as I think Christmas TOTP viewing figures are getting lower each year, the show just seems dated now without having a weekly TV show.
December 25, 200915 yr I think it's still one of the most watched shows for the timeslot Mikey. I just wish the artists would perform their current songs rather than ancient ones. Anyway, didn't see this yesterday - thanks Dave :cheer:
