I can't wait for the Brit Award compilation. Bit sad I know, but they sum up the year very well

You make an interesting point though.

I remember Craig David received eight nominations in the Brit Awards 2001 yet when home empty handed, and he was one of 2000's most successful artists.

OT: The Brit Awards demoted Dido from Best Female in 2001 to Best Newcomer in 2002. How did managed to work that one out I'll never understand.

I can only assume the Brits panel of judges are a bit like the Labour government. Full of middle aged white men wearing suits who know nothing about their jobs or what they're actually doing from one day to the next (well, it wouldn't surprise me). I wouldn't mind earning their salary though!!! :P

i think you have a point leona defintely should have cleaned up in in the 2008 brits yet she won nothing kate nash beat her for british female and duffy cleaned up last year

As long as Take That win the best tour award I don't care who wins what. If Take That don't win it ... then I'd be happy for Muse to win it (on other people's say-so). I'd be ired if Norman Wisdom's love child wins anything though!

is it true the brits have dropped the best international group catergory and brought back the international breakthrough catergory?

The Brits are out of fashion. As soon as they dropped the Best Dance Act award, we had an influx of successful dance hits in the UK. I believe it was 2004?

Dance music did well in 2009 thanks to acts like The Prodigy, Calvin Harris, Dizzee Rascal, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas (I suppose it could be classed as dance?). Best Urban Act? RnB was popular (well, it always is in the UK) with the likes of Flo-Rida, Jay-Z, Tinchy Stryder, N-Dubz, Ironik and Chipmunk scoring top 5 hits in 2009.

Of course The Brits panel will continue to give awards to the predictable contenders, so despite Robbie Williams receiving the Outstanding Contribution to Music award, he'll probably win Best Male...again!!!

Best British Single is a joke though - why do they always include the latest X Factor winner and now The X Factor charity single? Ok, they sold by the bucketload (then again, they're always going to) but should that warrent an automatic entry into the shortlist? How about choosing 10 songs for the quality of song rather than quantity of sales?

I'd love Cheryl to get Best Single but the great British public will give it to JLS!

Cheryl had better be nominated for best british single and she had better win!!!

Here's hoping!

Any news on whether Flo is to be nominated as a soloist or a group yet?

Robbie to be nominated in loads and walk home empty handed :heehee:

I think Cheryl should get a nomination for Best Signle but it would be weird seeing her win it, especially as the Girls had to wait so long for their first.

It should be the year of Gaga if there is any sense in the world!

Cue: The day after the nominations are announced Simon Cowell slams the BRIT awards as a joke not representing the British public true tastes due to the snubbing of Susan Boyle & Leona Lewis; and the minimal amount of nominations for Alexandra Burke & Cheryl Cole.

someone should tell him that the Brit Awards are not meant to represent the British public true tastes. They are to award good music.

So in fairness no matter how many copies of The END or singles from it are sold, Black Eyed Peas shouldn't be let anywhere near a nomation for best International group.

complely agree. The Brits used to be decent but now it's just more awards for people who've already been awarded by record sales.

Why dont we have an awards cermony based on great music instead of great sales?

No one in their right mind would claim that Joe McEldry released the best single of the year.
