If Cheryl goes up against JLS for best single, i will be voting JLS.

There is no WAY on this earth Fight For This Love was the best single of 09. Whilst Beat Again wasn't that brilliant either, its certainly better than FFTL.

It would be great if Alex or Leona got any recognition at the BRITS but I cannot see it happening. It is an Awards that seems to be very hostile to X-factor winners and I think to some extent Black British artists, this year will be very interesting to see if Dizzee, Jay Sean, Tinchy, Taio Cruz, JLS or The Noisettes get nominated for anything.

I don't agree Leona, despite being very new to the business, and Lemar have both had performance slots at the Brits.

If you want too look for someone snubbed by the Brits look no further than Will Young, who has only ever won public vote awards & despite being successful for 8 years has nnever been invited to perform.

Can't see Leona or Alexandra winning any awards voted by the panel as given the X Factor hype I believe both have underperformed. They've also done no touring to date.

I think Best female will go to Lily Allen or Florence.

Best Male Paulo Nutini. I'm assuming Robbie won't be considered as he's getting the Life Achievement Award.

Best British Band Kasabian

Best International Female Lady Gaga or Beyonce.

Best International Male Michael Buble

I am not talking about performing at the BRITS I am talking about being nominated for awards and receiving them.I stand by my point from SOUL II SOUL,Craig David, Jamelia and Leona, Black British acts have constantly been snubbed .For singles how can you say Badboys has underperformed and Overcome and Echo have sold more than Pixie Lott, The Saturdays and Little Boots and Leona and Alex have only had one single released from last year and their albums have been out for less time.As I said this year will be telling as Black British acts have been amougst the biggest selling so I am interested as to whether they will feature at all.

It's all a load of balls.

Wouldn't it be great if the list was full of unknowns and then we might discover lots of music that we hadn't heard of before.

But that would mean the panel would have to listen to music instead of looking at numbers on a page.

I'm sure black artists will feature, but if Alex and Leona are snubbed it will be because of their career backgrounds rather than their race. Little Boots, Pixie Lott and Flo + The Machine may be more likely to win awards because of their incredible graft in 2009. I know Alex and Leona have worked hard, but it takes so much more to come from nowhere to selling records. If The Noisettes were just whoever-that-girl-is + The Machine - she would be in the running, no question. I think Alex or Leona will win something, though.
They have dropped Best British Live Act for Best Moment of the BRIT Awards for one year only according to Digital Spy.

 They took away Florence and The machine's only shot at an award... :(

Spice Girls have to win Best Moment, Geri in the union jack dress was a huge story!

Yep! They've dropped the 'best live act' category from this year's show - the only category worth anything - and replaced it with a 'best performance of the last 30 years'. As they've promised that the winner will be invited to accept the award ... I'm voting for Michael Jackson's performance of Earthsong - with cameo appearance by Jarvis Cocker! Wonder if they'll as Derek Arcora(sp) to 'send the invite' to him! Michael that is ... not Jarvis!

When you consider how most successful music acts make less money from selling their music than in previous decades; yet make more money from their gigs/tours, taking this award away is simply scandalous.

As it has been replaced by this highly dubious award:

BRITs Hits 30:

On Saturday 23rd January, ITV1 will broadcast ‘The BRITs Hits 30’. This anniversary programme is unique in that it celebrates The BRIT Awards reaching its 30th year by viewing some memorable performances that the public can then vote on through ITV.com/brits and GM.TV.

The UK’s recorded music industry association, the BPI, announces today that Spice Girl ‘Mel B’ will be hosting this ITV show that will turn back the clock with stunning performances from the likes of: Kylie, Scissor Sisters, The Bee Gees, Eurythmics, The Spice Girls, Bros, The Who, Coldplay, Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Take That, Robbie Williams dueting with Tom Jones, The Pet Shop Boys, Girls Aloud and of course Michael Jackson.

The TV audience will then be asked to vote for their favourite performance by going to itv.com/brits or gm.tv up until February 5th when the voting window will close. The winner will then be invited to the BRITs on Tuesday 16th February at Earls Court, London to accept their award. "MOST MEMORABLE BRITs PERFORMANCE of 30 years"

As a result I will fully support a campaign for this to win to give the act who were a shoe in 6/5 favourite on Betfair beforehand to win Best Live Act for their ground breaking critically acclaimed 2009 tour their rightful award:

...but this is the "completely out of touch with the music industry" Brit Awards. Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, the year they dropped Best Dance Act the UK charts suddenly saw dance hits top the UK charts, and dance music is now as popular as it was in the mid 90s.

Likewise, musicians make their money touring so what better way to reflect upon this, The Brit Awards remove the Best Live Act award.

The other thing I've hated about The Brit Awards over the years is how much they focus on the "token US RnB act". They made a big deal out of 50 Cent in 2004, Kanye West in 2006 and probably Jay Z in 2010. Let's focus on the...ahem, Brits for once, eh? :D

And if that was the Take That performance they'd selected - I would have voted for it (to make up for the 'Live Act' they were 95% certain to get). However ... The Brits have deemed that their earlier 'Beatles Medley' (i.e. when they were five) as the one they're putting forward. Win/Win situation for the Brits organisers! If it wins ... they will be seen as responsible for getting all five together for a 'joint' effort. Or ... if they don't ... then they've saved themselves the embarrassment of having Take That win anything! The Brits have always looked down their noses at Take That (they even take The Spice Girls more seriously) but thankfully ... it is an attitude that hasn't gone unnoticed by Gary Barlow. He has often said they always know they are not wanted there ... so ... with that in mind ... I seriously hope the guys have some self-respect and just not attend this year's show. The Brits will NEVER change their minds about Take That. They take Robbie Williams as a serious artist ... but they'll never credit Take That with the same respect.

Still ... the millions in the bank from the tour and the BIGGEST EVER selling music DVD makes up for it a bit.

Back to the performance ... again ... my vote is going to go to Michael Jackson (as freaking awful as it was).

WOW! Take That Present The Circus Live DVD - biggest selling music dvd of 2009 on sales of 574,000! I'd say it has comfortably passed the 600,000 mark now with its sales from the first week of January. Sod the Brits! I know I'd rather have the sales!

  • 2 weeks later...

According to the site they have re-introduced International Breakthrough and there will be a category for best album of the last 30 years.

I think the nominees for International Breakthrough will be

Lady GaGa

Taylor Swift

Them Crooked Vultures

Animal Collective

Temper Trap

I wonder why Pixie Lott and La Roux are performing at the launch, I am sure they will get multiple nominations but they are not the biggest sellers or most popular acts this year.

It's probably just promo. I doubt any huge artists would perform at the launch, but Pixie, La Roux and JLS are all big enough to get it some press coverage. The biggest sellers and established acts usually perform at the actual event, rather than the launch.
