December 30, 200915 yr Shaikh bought in enough heroin to kill 26,800 people If he had not been arrested he would have killed more people and destroyed more lives than 13 lots of 9/11 but was he a concious drug trafficker or was he a dim person who had been duped? i doubt whether we will even know the facts.
December 30, 200915 yr maybe we have a much larger percentage of miscreants! We don't. That's the whole point. The crime rate has been falling every year since 1995 and is now 40% below the peak - the longest sustained reduction in crime on record. And just to preempt the inevitable response, this is based on the British Crime Survey. The figures are compiled by asking tens of thousand of people if they have been a victim of crime - whether it was reported or not. The method of collecting the data hasn't been changed so don't try and claim the figures are fiddled. All the evidence shows that the single most important determinant of the crime figures is the state of the economy. If the economy is growing the crime rate falls. For reasons yet unknown that cycle seems to have been broken in the last year or so. Despite the recession the crime rate is still falling. However we may yet see an increase in crime before too long. If the penalties are increased, that will potentially have the opposite effect from what you might expect. To take Craig's ludicrous suggestion that convicted burglars should have a hand amputated. Any jury is likely to contain people who think that is grossly excessive and would refuse to support a guilty verdict. Therefore, the number of convictions may well fall. As a result there will be more "not guilty" pleas - as defendants think they stand a better chance of acquittal - with a further reduction in convictions as a result. One of the reasons the death penalty was abolished was because juries were refusing to convict even when the evidence appeared to be compelling.
January 7, 201015 yr But on law and order I have very simplistic views You said it.... VERY simplistic, and doesn't take into account individual cases or circumstances, which is kinda how the law was built in this country... Based on CASE LAW....
January 7, 201015 yr You said it.... VERY simplistic, and doesn't take into account individual cases or circumstances, which is kinda how the law was built in this country... Based on CASE LAW.... ....... Where liberal well paid lawyers can come up with some theoretical excuse to justify someone's criminal behaviours and get them off on a technicality. Nope, not buying it. I stand by my original point I'm sickened to the stomach how this Labour Administration kicked up such a stink over this particular case (not as if it was like the "Foxy Knoxy" case in Italy where a US student got convicted of murder of a British student even though all the forensic evidence is circumstantial at best; she was held an interviewed by Italian police in their native language for 53 hours without a break to get a signed confession which she quickly retracted (even though she had been studying in the country for just 7 weeks beforehand); had her laptop PC which was her alibi wiped by forensics by mistake ; had the Italian media demonize her on a scale that made the UK tabloid media coverage of Barry George and Colin Stagg seem as a beacon of fair play and restraint in comparison; and the prosecutions case against her and how the murder took place changed 3 times during the course of the trial; and ends up getting a 26 year sentence; yet the likely murderer who was an African immigrant with a record of break ins and enterings aided the police with their case; had forensics found blood; footprints; fingerprints; etc all over the body and in the room of the murdered British student in stark contrast to the case against the American student and her ""strange" Italian boyfriend (well he liked goth metal music so he must have been guilty); including forced anal sex yet only gets a 16 year sentence for helping the police with their case) and yet turns a blind eye to all the atrocities carried out in Tibet or civil rights abuses carried out by the Chinese Government on a daily basis.

Bi-Polar disorder is not "Theoretical" you idiot..... You clearly dont even know anyone with serious mental problems if you come up with such ignorant statements as this..... Someone such as this could be easily manipulated by clever criminals.... As for your second paragraph.... Well, the fact that China carries out all these atrocities, not to mention the fact that they executed a whole bunch of kids who had the "nerve" to demand freedom and democracy not so long ago hardly makes their "justice" system a paragon of fairness does it....?

It's Manic Depression as I used to know it at before the PC's types deemed that phrases as offensive. Maybe, you should get your fukkin facts straights: #1 Within the UK he has not even been diagnosed with this illness. It is only the bleeding heart liberals of the UK media coming up with this excuse and sticking up for this low life. #2 The Chinese authorities gave the UK two years to come up with the evidence; as in most drug smuggler cases they execute the person within 6 weeks. #3 What the f*** was he doing in China in the first place.
January 8, 201015 yr #2 The Chinese authorities gave the UK two years to come up with the evidence; as in most drug smuggler cases they execute the person within 6 weeks. this is the point that swung it for me .... 2 years is surely long enough to come up with 'evidence'..
