What year do you think will be bigger for

1. Album's

2. Singles

Me personally i think 2010 will be bigger for singles but it will have really lower album sales?

I think 2010 will not differ much from 2009 on the albums front. 5-10% up or down, possibly up if the recession gets better! Probably down though, but not by much at all.

Singles too will be similar, don't know if any artists will dominate like GaGa or BEPs did last year, so I don't really expect a million-seller (though those two acts should both pass a million with 2009 singles)

So far, 2009 was way more promising. I'm not really feeling many of the new releases of 2010 yet. :(

ISTM album sales wil slip another few percent, and singles sales climb a similar amount - but the download benefit for singles is beginning to plateau now.

On a side issue, 1 in 8 albums are now downloads - see article below :

Looking at the release schedule, I have to agree with Jack. Bit of a lame start for singles really this year. There's not a lot that excites me but then 2007 was also a slow start to the year and that had some of my favourite tracks of the entire decade by the end of it.

I'm thinking single sales will drop slightly from last year but still be huge whilst albums will probably stay the same. It's not just the recession that's beat them down, it's the whole rise of iTunes and Spotify as well so until the industry figures out how to rectify that, they'll probably stay the same.

I reckon singles sales in 2010 will suffer a small decline compared to the total number of singles sales in 2009. Still over 4 million easily as songs are going to continue selling well in the first couple of weeks.

As already mentioned, there aren't any new artists I can see doing a "Lady GaGa" and dominating the singles chart throughout 2010 - I doubt Owl City will achieve such a feat anyways.

As for albums, it depends on who is releasing new albums this year. Also the lead single has to be very good to help sell the album too. Album sales won't change much from 2009 - either a slight increase, or a slight decrease. I don't think album sales overall will suffer significantly. Again, album sales will get their inevitable boost in the X Factor season. then boosted again in the lead up to Christmas.

Singles - probably the same as last year except for the start.

Albums - seeing that CDs are now in shops like Game, Peacocks, etc. (not sure though if they are not counted yet), it could climb by about 1-5% overall.
