THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE SO GOOD.

LIKE SO, SO GOOD,

LIKE REALLY.

The Scott Pilgrim book's are easily some of the best graphic novels I have ever read, (and I have read A LOT), basically this film is gonna kick ass.

here are the characters explained:

basically it is about this awesome guy called Scott Pilgrim (played in the movie by the fantastic Michael Cera), who is this jobless guy who lives with his gay roommate wallace (who consequently owns the majority of the stuff in their flat), Scott plays in a band called Sex Bob-Omb, he starts dreaming about this girl called Ramona, then it turns out Ramona is real, so he manages to start dating her but it turns out, uh-oh in order to date her he must first battle and defeat her 7 evil ex boyfriends, so the 6 books (5 out, number 6 is out this year :D) follow scott, and the various other goings on in his life while he battles all these evil exes,

it is possibly the most lovable comic book ever, dont slash it before you try it, i literally think this is the comic that is between the non-comics reader and the comics reader, this comic series is so easy to get into, it's so interesting, innovative and unique, there arent many comics like it.

But yeah, film, this year, i'm excited.

I actually just downloaded the comics a few days ago. Excited for this. ;o Need to finish reading them.

It's nice to see a gay character in a comic book, as well.

  • Author

lol i love wallace. infact most the characters are brilliant.

i think there is actually a few gay superheroes in Marvel/DC univereses.

although fair enough there inst a large amount of homosexuality in comics, interesting issue to be explored though, I think somewhere like CBR might have an article on it.

I know there are a couple others as well, but rarely are they as out and proud as Wallace. And as hilarious. <3

Just finished the first five volumes. Lovely. Lawlz @ Scott, amaze. Love the artistry as well. Simple but super effective.

I love the more unique bits of panel design that O'Malley includes, like theres one where there in a restaurant and half of the speech bubble is out of the panel but you can tell it's something like 'does anyone want some tacos' and it's not part of what you NEED to hear, but it's a sound that would be there, you can tell amongst the simple drawing, he has thought about it, and you have to love things like i think in the first volume, where it shows you how to play one of sex bob-omb's songs dispite it not being real.

easily one of the best comics of the last decade, so accessible aswell.

I used to read manga/comics way back in the day, but this is the first I've read in a while (basically because one of my comic book friends at art school told me I had to lawlz). Really pleased though. ;o It is quite accessible. Perhaps I should start reading comics again. I prefer the more indie kind such as this though. Marvel is eh.

Is there a trailer for this anywhere? Or screencaps?

  • Author

no trailer yet, it isnt until august after all,

i sense you thank your friend for telling you had to, because tbh, i think everyone really has to, it's that brilliant.

yeah i can see you as someone who can really be into indie comics.

im starting to veer way more into indie these days, i used to be near exclusive marvel but im starting to lose faith a bit, theres much better indie stuff out there, although marvel will always have a place in my heart, but sometimes the corporateness gets to me a bit.

ive just downloaded a comic called Asterios Polyp, I havent read it yet but CBR had it as number one of 2009 calling it onw of the best designed comics ever, might something that could interest you, bit about it on it's wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterios_Polyp

here is the only other offical photo (the other is in first post),

Edgar Wright’s big screen adaptation of the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim vs. The World held a early test screening in Las Vegas tonight, and a few early reviews have hit the interwebs. Of course, it should be noted that these people did not see the finished version of the movie, but an early cut, without finished effects, which could very well turn out much different from the final cut. That said, the early reviews are very positive. Check out early thoughts from nine different people, after the jump.

Maria Von Crapp tells AICN: “I think the biggest takeaway for me from seeing Scott Pilgrim tonight is how much comedy comes from the visuals in it. Every scene is packed with on-screen graphics that add comic-book flourishes or explain what’s going on, cutaways that are for the most part really inventive and funny, or just over the top or out of the blue things that cause you to experience the film in a different way than you’re used to. While it’s not really like anything I’ve seen before, it’s like some mash-up of elements from Fight Club, Kill Bill, Speed Racer, Natural Born Killers and a Michael Cera movie (take your pick). As schizophrenic as that sounds, Edgar Wright found a way to shake all that up and come out with something original and fun and fundamental.” … “It’s kind of like a John Hughes movie smashed into The Matrix.” … “Like he did in his other movies, Edgar Wright really pushes the genre into whole new areas. This has to be the world’s first coming of age/romance/superhero/comic book adaptation/musical/comedy/whatever movie. It has some traces of things you’ve seen before but not blended together in this way.” Read the full review on AICN

Ewok1 tells SHH: “Pure 8-bit amazingness!” … “the movie is definitely a nerdgasm” … “it was a very well played out movie, pretty true to the actual comic series.” … “Michael Cera was a perfect cast for Scott Pilgrim, as well as the girl who played Knives Chau (Ellen Wong).” … “Overall the movie was excellent!!!” Read the full review on SHH

oatmeal on Neogaf: “Right off the bat, I knew I was going to love it. The Universal Logo was rendered in 8 bit with the Universal theme a MIDI version. Awesome. I knew I was again going to love it when the familiar opening from The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (triforce spinning) cued the opening shot, a tilt down to an exterior of a house. Awesome. From there, it was a mixture of Edgar Wright’s usual frenetic camerawork with some unbelievably slick transitions, and while I knew nothing about the story behind the comics, I knew from the start it would be a fun ride.” … “we get to see just why Edgar Wright is, IMO, one of the most talented filmmakers out there. The fight scenes in this film are ludicrous. They are incredibly high energy, completely unique from one another, and a total riot.” … “I know it doesn’t come out until August 17th, but what they have right now (other than some rough audio patches and a lot of unfinished effects) is pretty damn remarkable. Edgar Wright has once again knocked it out of the park. I don’t know how commercial this film can be, due to it’s subject matter (it’s basically for nerds only, my wife liked it, but not nearly as much as I did), but Goddamnit it’s awesome.” Read the full review on Neogaf

JooseBocks on twitter: “Just watched the screening for “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”. $h!t is like Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist and Street Fighter in one lmao ”

jayboogie82 on twitter: “Scott pilgrim vs. The world was a entertaining film with Michael cera. Look for it late summer.”

Taelah on Twitter: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is soooo fun! That movie was soooo good! Can’t wait for it to come out! So silly!

helen medina on twitter: “Saw an advanced Screening of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Really funny. I give it 3.8 out of 5 stars.”

AndyAlvarez on twitter: “Just saw a screening for SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Good stuff. Will look even better after post production i’m sure. Good. Clever. Original. It has a feeling of dragging especially towards the end.”

KilluhK on Twitter: Just watched scott pilgrim vs the world! Talk about awesome! Yay for special screenings!

Cristian Maroquin on Twitter: So I got invited to the movie screening for “Scott Pilgrim VS the Universe” wich is comin out soon and it was truly funny and original LOL..

my favourite diretor Kevin Smith said this on it:

“That movie is great. It’s spellbinding and nobody is going to understand what the f*** just hit them. I would be hard pressed to say,”he’s bringing a comic book to life!” but he is bringing a comic book to life. If you’ve ever seen Scott Pilgrim, he did a f***ing damn fine job of taking essentially an anime looking book and putting it into the real world while keeping everything about that book that’s kind of cool and what pops. He describes it as Say Anything meets Kill Bill and he’s not that far from accuracy. The chick who plays Knives, the little Asian girl, she’s going to be a star. She is adorable in the movie … Michael Cera is really great. He’s also doing something that’s different from what most people know him as in terms of the character. He’s a little more self assured and Bugs Bunny-like than George Michael. The fight scenes are fun. It’s just a f***ing good time, man.”

and apparently Quentin Tarantino was at the same screening and was "really into it"
