Posted January 8, 201015 yr If you knew someone was say claiming income support and working as say a window-cleaner or another cash-in-hand job would you ring the Benefit Fraudline or not? Should people live and let live instead and turn a blind eye? Discuss. This thread often appears on other forums and the replies are pretty even split. Some will report and some won't. I reported a woman two months ago and have heard she's now been arrested and faces a probable large fine or prison sentence. She was the carer for an old lady that my wife knew who went back to die in the Philippines in 2006. Well this scum carried on getting her pension, incapacity benefit, carer's allowance and other benefits as she had access to her bank accounts. She was with-drawing hundreds every week. The old lady told her to stop everything but she didn't. So I reported her and she's in very serious trouble now. As the old lady was dead it became a serious police matter.Whatever happens she owes them many thousands and has to pay every penny back. Good. She has no idea it was me. :naughty: TBH when I rang the guy got the records up on computer and said "are you sure the lady left the UK in 2006 as the claim is still open now in 2009?" I said I was sure as my wife took her to the airport. :o They were very thankful for my call as it would have carried on for God knows how many years. Edited January 8, 201015 yr by Victor Meldrew

It was fraud. It isn't the same as snitching on someone who is perhaps getting minimal benefits and claiming a few extra bob here and there by doing a bit of cleaning! Believe me ... there are more people claiming more than their due by not doing any moonlighting at all. The 'incapacity' benefit immediately springs to mind. In a lot of cases ... the 'incapacity' is the inability to get off the bloody couch! So in answer ... if I knew of someone who was getting the 'bare minimum' (and I mean the bare minimum) but did a bit here and there to get a few necessities in ... then 'no' I wouldn't snitch! I would though, like to 'snitch' on a whole bunch of people who 'legally' milk the system for all it is worth! Norma
January 8, 201015 yr Author What about a single parent who doesn't declare that her working boyfriend is living with her?
January 8, 201015 yr What about a single parent who doesn't declare that her working boyfriend is living with her? What about people who work as Santa Claus when they are claiming incapacity benefit ? did you declare the earnings you made out of that ?
January 8, 201015 yr Author What about people who work as Santa Claus when they are claiming incapacity benefit ? did you declare the earnings you made out of that ? This thread ISN'T ABOUT ME. You mean declare a few glasses of mulled wine? LOL. This is a serious thread and nothing whatsoever to do with my personal circumstances so please treat it as such.
January 8, 201015 yr What about people who work as Santa Claus when they are claiming incapacity benefit ? did you declare the earnings you made out of that ? You know what though BA ... with all the loopholes ... there is no need to 'moonlight' ... the government (any government) is only too willing to throw money (my money!!!!) at people who do nothing ... and have never done anything ... in many cases ... their parents and grandparents have never worked!!! People who object about Poles coming into the country doing work (at least they bloody DO work). Sorry ... I'm going off at a tangent here ... but I know I've worked all my life, so has my husband ... but you can bet your bottom dollar when the time comes that we are genuinely unable to work ... we won't get a penny from anywhere ... because we don't or can't 'work the system'. January 8, 201015 yr Author I've heard of cases of people reporting someone and them finding out it was them and lobbing bricks through their window. Is it worth that?

January 8, 201015 yr Author Fact of the matter though Chris is that you are more than capable of working so you have been fiddling the social for the best part of 30 years so you are no better than she is You don't know me personally and anything about my illness and you're not a DSS Dr. so let them do their job in assessing me yearly please B.A. This thread's not about IB and who should or shouldn't be on it but about people flouting the rules and claiming and working. January 8, 201015 yr Going back to the topic yes I would report, it is my money that they are claiming at the end of the day and with the credit crunch I am probably earning 30% less than I did last year so don't like seeing people fiddling money I pay into the system so yes I would phone the hotline if I knew of anyone doing it
January 8, 201015 yr Author My window-cleaner once said "may not be round the same day next week mate as I've to sign on" :o Not sure if he was joking or what.
