Posted January 10, 201015 yr The latest hit by Jay-Z Feat. Mr. Hudson. is not completely original It is based on the hits Forever Young by German bands Alphaville (power ballad version) in 1984 and techno version by Interactive in 1996 Alphaville's was the follow-up to Big In Japan - it wass massive in mainland Europe but flopped in the UK. The Interactive version was big both in mainland Europe and also a hit in the UK reaching #28 Interactive f2_R2p23yx8 Alphaville (original) 5h_qVpUTUM4
January 10, 201015 yr It's brilliant, should be big, has been on the chart for a while now, but is realeased next week physically. At #12 on itunes atm.
January 10, 201015 yr and it was a good song too Euro Music. It should have been a big hit in the UK back in the day. Didn't someone else do a cover of it? (not the Interactive version you've posted here) I just can't think of who it was.
January 10, 201015 yr Jay-Z's rap verses in this song is dire but Mr Hudson vocals make Jay-Z's version epic and better than the original in my opinion.

The physical has been pulled sadly :( I agree Mr Hudson's bits are the best bits of this, I don't think the Interactive version was an influence, it sounds a lot like the Alphaville version apart from the rap. By the way I'm moving this to R&B, it's not a chart topic :)
January 10, 201015 yr this says 'not original' but it is, it is comepete Jay's own track he has just sampled past versions, although the first verse is the same lyrics as the first verse in the original. my review of this is here: http://www.buzzjack.com/reviews/Young-Fore...Hudson-r17.html
January 10, 201015 yr Everybody knows (or at least i hope they know) the original song/-s so it's hardly a surprise. Sampling is quite popular nowadays anyway. This track grew on me heavily i should say. Mr Hudson does the great job on it! Mr Jay-Z knows who to invite to record a song with.
January 10, 201015 yr samplign popular nowadays? more popular in the late 80's, mainly hip hop scene though (although still is I guess) I was just making a point it's not a cover song.

I know you don't follow charts but there are SO many songs that cover/sample other songs so it's fair to say this 'genre' isn't forgotten at least. Some hideous songs even go to Top 3 (Jason DeRulo's $h!tty 'Whatcha Say'; poor Imogen  I'd commit suicide if somebody did something like that to my song). That means Jay-Z>Kanye. And it's obviously true. :smoke:
January 10, 201015 yr i didnt mean it wasnt popular now, i just meant its still been popular since the late 80's lol, lots of dance and hip hop sample loads.
January 14, 201015 yr this used to be always played at the club i went to when i was 16 (the cheesy euro dance version) lol used to love it!!
