I must admit, I did laugh when I first heard about this show. So f**king random I can't help but wonder what ITV will do next.

Yet part of me is still looking forward to it

Hosted by - wait for it... Myleene Klass and Alan Titchmarsh.

The 8 taking part are being mentored by Katherine Jenkins and famed tenor Rolando Villazon.

They'll perform world famous opera songs – many of them learning to not only sing in a completely different style, but also a completely different language than they are used to.

After their performances the pop stars will be critiqued by a panel made up of their mentors Katherine and Rolando and two critics, international award-winning rock musician Meat Loaf together with TV presenter and Classic FM radio host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

Katherine, Ronaldo, Meat Loaf and Laurence - it doesn't get more random! :D

Taking part are:

Alex James, who found fame as the bassist in Blur. The band had five number one albums and in 1995 won four Brits breaking a record for the most awards won in one year.

Bernie Nolan, who sold over 25 million records worldwide as vocalist in the Nolan Sisters.

Danny Jones, of hit boy-band McFly, who have had seven number one singles and hold the record for the youngest band ever to top the album chart twice.

Darius Campbell (formerly Danesh) who rose to fame in ITV’s Pop Idol show and had number one hits in the UK with both his debut single and album.

Jimmy Osmond, who sold over 100 million records worldwide as part of the Osmonds and is also a platinum selling solo artist.

Kym Marsh, the Coronation Street star who found fame when she won ITV’s Popstars and became part of the band, Hear’Say, enjoying two number one singles and a number one album.

Marcella Detroit, who was one half of the band, Shakespear’s Sister and sang lead vocals on their hit ‘Stay’ which was number one for eight weeks in the UK charts.

Vanessa White, from the girl-band The Saturdays, who have had five top ten singles since their debut in 2008.

I can't wait to see the ratings for this!

Oh dear, ITV really are running out of ideas aren't they?! LMAO.

Still, I might watch it for Vanessa ... and just of curiosity. :heehee:

Don't really like opera music, but might watch just because the line-up is great - unlike shows such as Strictly, CBB & IACGMOOH, where there is always some I don't know. But I know all of these celebs :D
ITV really don't have any taste anymore. I miss the old days when shoes like "ABBAMANIA" were actually very good. Now there just milking the whole studio audience thing :/

I despise Alex James. The only good thing about this show is Vanessa.

Wait, it clashes with Big Brother, i'll probably miss it.

:P

I'm gonna watch it for Vanessa. It's not that bad a line-up, I actually know them all which is a nice change.

I like Alex James ... he was ace on Maestro! I think this show could actually be pretty good ... looking forward to seeing Jimmy Osmond - I love his laid back sense of humour (not sure his voice'll be up to it though). The whole line-up is pretty decent.

Why did Darius change his surname? I think it will be quite funny to watch them try and hit them high notes.

LOL at Marcella Detroit!

Great line up! I'll watch this, if mostly for Darius :kink:

LOL at Marcella Detroit!

If Marcella Detroit has kept her soprano voice, it's probably the most suitable to be transformed, along with Darius's baritone.

I don't give a toss which of Darius's names from the Campbell-Danesh or a different unconnected stage name he uses, he'll always just be Darius.

Vanessa White sounds lovely on the ad.

They seem to be a nice bunch of celebs, enjoying the challenge together despite ages from 20 to nearly 60. So far it reminds me of the more naive reality show days of the original Popstars and the first Pop Idol.

And there's no knowing what Meatloaf will do or say!

I think the girls are singing Bellini's Casta Diva and the guys Verdi's La Donna e mobile this week.

I'm sure Vanessa is going to be amazing, looking forward to it!
Alan Titchmarsh?! Are they trying to recreate Tess & Brucey from Strictly? :P

I'll give it a watch for Vanessa & Kim

God help Danny Jones

Charlotte Church would have made a good judge as she has done well in both worlds

Agreed.

Though it should be fun to see the clash of egos between LLewellen-Bowen and Meatloaf.

Asfor Danny Jones, he doesn't need to try that hard, does he? McFly's huge fan club will deliver his votes anyway.

All of the contestants and their mentors are on This Morning round about 10.30 today.

Sod BB - it's well past it's sell-by date :puke2:

Sorry. I got this wrong - I think the girls are singing Bellini's Casta Diva and the guys Verdi's La Donna e mobile this week.

Danny is singing La Donna e Mobile, Marcella is singing Casta Diva and despite being a baritone, Darius is singing Nessun Dorma.

Support DannyMcfly is number2 trending topic on Twitter!!!!

I think I'm going to be backing Jimmy Osmond on this one! I love his personality ... and he handled the Walls Cornetto song pretty well just then!

And Kym Marsh is doing OK with the Stella ad!
