mika is a strange one.its not totally about what sells, bat for lashes were critically aclaimed yet they didnt sell overly alot and had one top 40 single from the album!!

and I hope Bat for Lashes win.

It is not representative of what sold in the last 12 months how come out of the Best British singles which I assume are sales and airplay, there are at least 5 Black British acts yet this is not reflected in the nominations. This seems to happen every year that Urban acts are excluded Tinchy, Taio Cruz, Jay Sean, Chipmunk and The Noisettes had a great 2009 yet where are they.Plus Beyonce not being nominated is criminal.Cheryl, Alex and even Susan Boyle outsold Pixie and La Roux.If sales were the be all and end all what is Mika doing there

The BRITS main job is not to reward the biggest selling acts, just what they feel are the best for each category hence inclusions for Mika, Friendly Fires, Animal Collective, Bat For Lashes, Daniel Merriweather etc, acts that have sold moderately. They judge on the quality and originality of each album, and since Susan Boyle album is mostly covers, rightly or wrongly they have decided not to include it.

Beyonce I can only imagine was ineligible - To be nominated you had to release an original body of work in the time period specified. I Am Sasha Fierce was nominated for the 2009 BRITs. Yes most of her success and sales has come SINCE last February and she did re release, I did wonder if it might gain special dispensation like Green Day did that time with American Idiot nominated two ceremonies in a row but it wasn't to be.

Anyone noticed the big glaring omission of Arctic Monkeys? I thought music industry types worshipped them?

This is not correct. Their choice is representative of what SOLD in the UK during the last 12 months. Not what happened. Huge difference.

I was merely responding to someone who said that the nominations was based on what sold you are saying the complete opposite.Either way the BRITS are a farce and represent only what pale, male and stale old men are listening to.

whose this so called bat for lashes never heard of them until now

Well at least one good thing has come from these nominations.

Bat for Lashes is mainly one female singer called Natasha Kahn. She works in the same field as Florence and the Machines but has much more subtle sound. Her voice is softer and alot more celtic - sounds a bit like a softer version of Roisin Murphy's voice.

She is influenced by Kate Bush and Bjork and works hard creating an original sound. She loves percussion.

Check out the single Daniel - which is my single of 2009 from Two Suns which is my album of 2009.

Two Suns is her second album and both it and it's predecessor Fur and Gold were nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Why is Phil Collins' 'No Jacket Required' in the shortlist for the BRITs Album of 30 Years when it DID NOT win a Best Album award?

The must have realised their oversite as it is clerly a fantastic album. [/sarcasm]

"Bleeding love" wasn't nominated due to the period it got released, "Better in time" got nominated instead and didn't win cause the public didn't vote for it.

There are a few Black nominees this year, Leona, Alexandra, JLS for 3 awards, Dizzee... you can't really say they're "racist", if anything it's just they're not really open to r'n'b and that's why acts like Chipmunk are not nominated for example.

Why wasn't Bleeding Love nominated the following year?

Your post was about Leona's single being snobbed. She didn't get snobbed, she got nominated with "Better in time". She couldn't be nominated twice in the same category, that's why "Bleeding love" wasn't nominated.

Why "Better in time" over "Bleeding love"? Well, the British Single nominations are decided on the basis of airplay and sales on a certain period, so I guess "Better in time" had a better combination of both during the eligible period.

That's madness. Sales of Bleeding Love were far higher.

But I think I know why Better in Time was nominated. It's a faaaaaaar better song. Bleeding Love had no melody.

Surely, the 2010 BRITS is NOT celebrating 30 Years of anything? It is the 30th BRITS. The

2 things are not the same.

The BRITS began in 1977 - The Britannia Awards. It then took a break, and came back in 1982.

It has carried on ever since.

So, the 1977 BRITS was the 1st. And the 2010 BRITS are the 30th BRITS - counting the 1977

ones. 30 Years of The BRITS would suggest that it started in 1981, & the 2010 BRITS are the 30th

since then. Wrong.....

Even the Wikipedia Site thinks that 'Angels' was given the BRIT Award for the Best Single Of The Past

25 Years, in 2005. It didn't. It got the Award for the Best Single of the 1st 25 BRITS - 1977, & then 1982

to 2005 = 25 BRITS. The Nominations were for Singles from 1977 onwards. Had the Award been for 25

Years, there would have been nothing earlier than 1980 in the Nominations. There is a lot of confusion

about these BRITS Anniversaries - many people misunderstand them.
