February 9, 201015 yr Has 'Everybody Hurts' been given a global release? If so, how well is the track performing in other countries?
February 9, 201015 yr Has 'Everybody Hurts' been given a global release? If so, how well is the track performing in other countries? If it has it isn't in any other iTunes top ten ... not even in Ireland. I've just looked. Norma
February 9, 201015 yr 250k in the first two days- should sell close to 500k by the end of this week The video is really touching :(
February 10, 201015 yr The thing that still rankles with me is that this song was recorded last month and yet it's only out now. Why couldn't Cowell just leave the chart positions, the staggered advertising and the ego-massaging out of it and just stick it on iTunes the very second it was ready? I've still not heard this or seen it and hope I don't and I've already given more than "at least £1" to Haiti charities who will get the money out there immediately and not have to wait until late Spring for royalty cheques etc.

I'm not fond of the song (although of its kind ... its probably one of the better ones) but I don't understand this 'at least £1' to Haiti. Every time this is mentioned in the media ... including on the news on TV ... they clearly say ALL proceeds will go to DEC and Haiti! Does proceeds mean all moneys taken ... or all profits after production, packaging, transport and stocking costs? As it is ... all the supermarkets and other retailers have said they won't take their cut. I'm pretty sure that most of the £3.99 from the physical is indeed going towards disaster relief. But I agree with you on your first comment. Norma
February 10, 201015 yr I'm just going by what I saw on here - that CD singles carried a sticker with that on it last week - but even I'm doubting that now. There'd be a massive outcry if anyone was being paid for or even making a profit out of this single. Still stick by the first point - and that, in general, an appeal to people to give a fiver directly instead of buying this would have been far more beneficical (apart from to the careers of Cowell acolytes who can now add another "number 1" to their career tallies).
February 10, 201015 yr Still stick by the first point - and that, in general, an appeal to people to give a fiver directly That's what I'd recommend anyone do really ... for any song of this kind. I think the only reason people should buy a song is if they actually like it enough to have it in their collection ... or maybe admit that they're buying it because their favourite artist is on it ... there's no shame in that. I do think though that this song (whether people agree / buy it or not) has actually increased or prolonged awareness. I still haven't bought it ... but I may change my mind at the weekend. Norma
February 10, 201015 yr I'd say 550k this week, a further 250k next week and then half that each week. 1.5m tops I think.
February 10, 201015 yr Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the normal version and the "alternative mix" on the single? It is 9 seconds longer than the original but besides that cannot work out the difference!
February 10, 201015 yr Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the normal version and the "alternative mix" on the single? It is 9 seconds longer than the original but besides that cannot work out the difference! From what I can tell, the alternative mix removes all drums and clicking sounds from the main version. There's also more strings on the alternative version compared to the main version. Oh, and the alternative version doesn't fade out.

Norma Even if it is a charity CD and the artists worked free of charge there are still many other people implied in process and who must be payed. From a normal CD only a small part goes to the writer / artist : this money are the one who can be donated directly...Production costs must be covered (like paying the worker from the manufacturing) - they get their percent from the price of the CD. After they are covered from the first batch of CDs, (from which only 1 € goes to charity) the rest of money will go in full to the charity. If i understand it right.

That is why I think that when speaking about the cd ... newsreaders, presenters, etc should be saying 'all profits' and not 'all proceeds'. Or perhaps just say what is on the sticker of the CD ... 'at least £1 will go to the relief effort'. Norma
February 10, 201015 yr Only being released in the UK. Glad through music they are making haiti disaster more aware & saving lives; really doesnt matter if i like or dislike the song, its helping people which is the main thing.

Norma all proceeds doesnt mean all moneys taken, as the stars are doing this free, but the factory workers, the artwork designers etc. arent doing it for free However- and i know this is true- Simon or the stars will not get a share of the profits- so all PROCEEDS go to charity ie. theyre NOT making a profit out of this

I wouldn't. I just think the whole promotion of this song (and all the others like it) is misleading. There are people out there who honestly believe that their whole £3.99 is going to the relief effort ... when it isn't. The song is growing on me now though. Norma

Norma True, but I guess some people assume that due to this being such a disaster all the money will go to charity tbh I think it definately should give at least 70% of the sales to charity
February 10, 201015 yr the thing is if it sells enough £3.98 could go to charity as the costs to make it get more spread out. If it sold few copies the record company could easily lose money as if it only sold 10 copies they'd have to give £10 to charity and will only have £30 to cover cost which isn't enough but obviously it has already sold loads so more money will go to charity.
February 11, 201015 yr Surely they could have got a designer to come up with the cover for free? Why not a famous but starving artist? Surely the publicity would do them good in the long run (which is why pop stars queue up to do this kind of thing - their own albums receive a sales boost). I was going to make the point that they should simply not produce physical CDs in order to save money but the target audience is mainly the older, female supermarket set.
