To remember the day Elvis died? I was 17. August 16th was my parents' wedding anniversary and I'd been out for a meal with them and my 14 year-old sister. Were driving home at 11pm and put the radio on and it was all Elvis songs. Couldn't believe the news. Was no surprise really that Way Down rocketed to No.1 a couple of weeks later.

Just checked and you're wrong. It was No.42, up from 49 on the chart announced on the day he died, Tuesday, then it rocketed up to No.4 the following week then No.1 on chart dated Sat.3rd Sept.

I remember being so shocked to hear the news and at the time, I wasn't a real fan of Elvis as I hadn't really discovered him, but I've certainly made up now :D

I wasn't a huge fan at 17 but did like some of his songs. Still was a big shock though. Everyone was talking about it at work next day!
It's interesting to hear how people heard the news and their reaction to it at the time. Were you a fan back then lonesome cowboy?
