I've been downloading MelFest stuff all afternoon....I just had the horrible realisation that our entry will be like something from MF 2003...

as in old stuff? I've only heard the entries from 2007 onwards and the ones on the 'Absolute Schlager' CD, let me know if you find anything stunning

The 2003 entries from Nanne, Pandora, Sahlene, Style, Da Buzz, Shirley Clamp, Maarja and Pernilla Wahlgren are good, as well as the songs already on the Absolute Schlager CD. However I would not want songs like these entering for the UK this year, and I get the feeling it's what we'll be getting.

Have a look on our Dutch friend's website and you can get hold of them if you're interested (or there's always Youtube I suppose).

yep, we'll almost certainly be getting something dated - one song I did manage to hear was from 2002, The One That You Need by Friends (obviously giving it another stab after their 2001 success)...it's very Steps/Hear'Say like, much moreso than Listen To Your Heartbeat - in fact I probably slightly prefer it

I loved Stop! Look! Listen! by Da Buzz, and the Sarek entry from 2003 aswell

I'm just hoping Pete will have modernized his sound a bit, but it's doubtful. Something like the more recent Da Buzz releases (Baby Listen To Me, Take All My Love, Last Goodbye) would be awesome!

OMG!!! Alannah Myles entered Melodifestivalen 2005!! How random is that?!?!

any Europop would surely completely bomb :( I'm expecting a Scooch-like result...

I know! I heard that a few months ago and listened to the song but it wasn't up to much...no Black Velvet anyway!

It's nothing compared to Katrina's entry from that year, which also did nothing :(

I really want to hear the song now! I think it would be great. Something up-tempo, not too dated. At least I know who he is, as well :D

And he did "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)"

He's been out of date for 20 years and even then he wasn't cool.

Yes I think it will be up-tempo, but the chance of it not being dated is about 1%

I might even like it...I'm imagining it being something quite schlager-esque, but schlager hasn't done well at Eurovision for years, so whether or not I like it doesn't really matter. I really doubt it will be something that will (a) get a good result for us or (B) improve the perception of Eurovision in the UK.

I read this on the BBC News website today at lunch. I can understand why other here are disappointed. I've even read some of the pinned S/A/W thread to know there are some older posters here who detest this type of music.

If Pete Waterman somehow manages to write another 'Better The Devil You Know' and get a really good charasmatic singer to perform the track I don't see why it should fail. If he writes another 'I'd Rather Jack' and gets a complete non-entity of a singer (the type that are just there, and that's it) then we could be giving Jemini a run for their money in the nul point stakes.

To conclude, I don't have high hopes for this years UK entry.

Ooooh, Pete Waterman should write an English version of Verka Serduchka 'Dancing Lasha Tumbai' Let's send to Eurovision a real piece of cheddar cheese.
we did, they were called Scooch

Scooch are more like stilton. We need a proper cheese fest. In fact, why not just have someone dress up as a big lump of cheese and have five dancers dressed as rats all running around on stage. The song could be called Cheese Crackers, or Mouse Trap, or something extremely kitsch and daft. Perfect for Eurovision!!!

Eurovision has long since moved on from this sort of rubbish thankfully  well at least moved away from doing at all well...I don't think the huge European hits Fairytale, Is It True, Always and Dum Tek Tek that made up last year's top 4 could be in anyway related to what a lot of people in the UK's perception of 'the perfect Eurovision entry' is

well said Rich :)

I'm just hoping the UK won't send any cheese this year and that Pete would at least TRY to do a nice folow up song to My Time!

If you want proper cheese they should send Chico or Same Difference ;) or better still Jedward :manson:

Unless they get Steps to reform

The thought is Steps coming back fills me with dread - they were vile!

Bring back SONIA!!! :D

Why do I have a nightmare vision of Sinitta representing us:

See if you can recognise who the (blink and you'll miss it) chauffeur is towards the end of the video.
