Pete is well capable of writing a great pop tune but he can also produce some dire ones aswell, i have loved some of his work in the past so im looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.

I think Jedward could do well at ESC for either UK or Ireland....didn't they say on Jonathan Ross last night that they can play the violin? That seems to have been a winning formula the past couple of years :P

The last act Pete Waterman worked with, as far as memory serves, is the girls from the Sheila's Wheels ad. The last decent track he produced was in 1993 with Sybil "When I'm Good N Ready" and in fareness, it was a relatively for-the-moment throwaway affair.

2010 and I don't hold much hope, but this is Eurovision and crazier things have happened...

Why do I have a nightmare vision of Sinitta representing us:

See if you can recognise who the (blink and you'll miss it) chauffeur is towards the end of the video.

"ToyBoy"... certainly not SAW's finest hour that's for sure. I love the line "He ain't got money, people think it's funny". Mind you, this was at a time when Thatcherism was at a peak and Yuppies were literally burning £20 notes. Ooooh Waterman with a political agenda, hidden away in a sugary slab of trashy pop. OK joke aside, could we do worse than having Sinitta representing us? I reckon so...

Hardly! Their appeal is limited purely to them being the joke candidates of the X Factor...

But violins always seem to bring good results, and apparently they can play!

Sinitta could well go for eurovisiion as to me she seems desperate to get some fame again and would try anything to get her music career up and going again.

Would Simon allow it? I know she's an independent woman who doesn't have to do whatever he says, but I've heard before that he doesn't like Eurovision

I've heard that too, and I've heard him describe things as a Eurovision performance (mostly in the days of Same Difference though!) I would love Sinitta (nearly said Shakira, oops) as our entry
Really looking forward to seeing what he comesup with, but like many here, not really holding out too much hope for a decent finish. Mind you... It's My Time was very risky in a way, and many people were predicting that to flop, so anything can happen.

A band I've been championing for about 2 years now looks set to be amongst the UK hopefuls. The Ultrasonics just posted a status on Facebook saying they're going for a meeting at the BBC: "Off to the BBC for a secret meeting - lets just say Terry Wogan and Pete Waterman and leave it at that...."

They wrote Why You had To Leave and Everytime I Hear Your Name for Cascada's last album

Excited!!

Nice :D Is that the group that did Go Electro? That sounds like a good combination, although if they expect to meet Terry they'll be disappointed

wow! would be a turn up for the books - I like 2 or 3 of their songs!

Yeah, Go Electro was theirs! Their album was amazing. I'm so excited! Although I can't imagine them singing a Steps-esque song. Maybe they'll sing a more electro version of it if they got to the final stages of YCNY.

OH MY GOD. I would actually ADORE it if we sent The Ultrasonics!

My hopes have been restored for You Spin Me Round Part II!

Do you reckon there will be a YCNY this year? There doesn't seem to have been an official announcement on TV like last year, when ALW made a call for people who are interested, and it seems to be a bit late for them to do that this year
It's getting to the point where I'm thinking they'll just get 3-6 artists to sing the song, maybe each artist will put their own unique spin on the track, and then the public chose who they want to sing it in Oslo, so like YCNY but on one night and no pointless cover versions.

I agree with this, I can see what they did last year, but it was a vehicle for ALW really, continuing on from his other prime time shows...

it's interesting to see another new format though as clearly whatever they were doing between 2000 and 2008 (with the exception of 2002) failed miserably...

Ah, that would be good :) This hasn't got much to do with ESC, but "Tik Tok" is up-tempo, and I've seen a version of YouTube where the singer has slowed it down quite a bit, and made it into more of a ballad. The trouble with people putting their unique spin on it with ESC, is that it has to stay within the time limit. This ballad version of "Tik Tok" was about 2:58 long, but I think some lines were cut out.

A ballad version of Tik Tok  I really can't imagine it... "Eeeeeeverybody getting cruuuuuuuuuuunk, boys trying to toooooouch my juuuuuuuunk..."

Anyway I don't think Pete will have a problem with the time limit, IIRC he is a fan, he should know all the rules...
