The Top Albums in Feb 1982: The Human League returning to the top for a 9th week, and the OMD just missing out. Barbara Dickson had her biggest selling album in at 18, which later made the top 3. It featured the brilliant "Run Like The Wind" as the opening track. This was written by Mike Batt in 1979, and was to have appeared in "Watership Down" but the scene was cut. The song featured on Mike`s album "Tarot Suite", and Barbara`s was released as a single in November 1981. It was all over the airwaves of Radio 2 throughout December 1981 & January 1982, but did not make the Top 75...sacrilage!

Here come's the finish...The full lowdown on the top 75 singles plus, because as we speak Taylor Swift hovers just outside. The chart compiled thus: The Top 40 based on a mix of downloads/physical sales. The 41-75 based on nothing but downloads...All put together those lovely people down at Data Technical Research Ltd. Lots of you have email saying who are they exactly? Well, they are a team of chaps who previously worked in Market Research for the likes of MRIB & BMRB. They collate information for Dvd/TV/Music and the likes. Big ties with HMV, who are still updating a brand new download site. Download info is based on an avearage of the week's sales, for our purposes from iTunes/7Digital/Tesco/Amazon/Play.co.uk.

The Helping Haiti squad heading for 1m by early next week...as the fastest seller of the century. I read another thread the other day, on the state of the Singles Chart. Well as there isn`t a Singles chart, as physicals are dead...It`s now a song chart, the only problem is the lack of the over 25s, who don`t really go for downloading. Hence the chart being a kiddish looking heap of tripe. As well, as various charity types usually put together by the other tripe known as Mr Cowell! Take the Rammstein concert I went too...Spectacular effects, and a big all round age feel. Now with a bigger age range, the songs in the chart would be great. Horrifying that we will never see Iron Maiden in the chart again. iTunes dominates the chart, and kids can`t seem to see the rip off of overpricing, as other download sites are cheaper.

Don`t forget for the chart, that`s always that little bit ahead of "Edgy Yeates" and co...as well, as much better, oin Jason Scott and myself on Sunday at 4, on hhtp://www.thesuperstation.info and also look out for the new Fresh Hit 40 site coming on there too. That chart is a few hours ahead of the game because Radio One`s chart is stale by 4 on a Sunday, because the info finishes on Saturday night at 12. Ours is ahead because of the way the chart is compiled on Sales & 7.5% airplay. Following on at 7pm on Sunday we also have the new "Ones To Watch". The bubblers and newies in the half hour slot show.

Good news :) Do you think it can go top 40 at least? As for the album I guess it depends on the single being a success :( Love Ms Dynarod by the way

Yep, she certainly clears my drains! Alphabeat, top 40...yeah I would say so.

Oh course, we well remember the original Little Miss Dynamite was/is Brenda Lee...

Yay :cheer:

Oh no, PLEASE don't say Journey are gonna stay top ten :|

Rather that than Jedward :kink:

Do you know how well Sweet 7 is doing on the pre-orders as a whole?

I do agree on your comments on the 'song' chart Dave, and the demographic of downloaders. I think album charts are where musical interest is really focussed in the general population.

By the way, surely there are several faster/higher sellers this century than the Haiti single? As a Will Young fan, I get a little annoyed that his record of 1.1m physical sales in one week seems to get 'forgotten'. I'm sure there must be others too?

I practically like the retro chart from 1982, Human League, Jam, OMD, Stranglers, Kraftwerk etc etc, the best year of my life.
Boyzone have massive pre-orders! :o They're out on the same week with Sugababes, Amy Macdonald and Gorillaz and I can't believe they are going to outsell all of them! :o

Really! :o That does surprise me. Personally I think the show is awful. Guests seem to sit there looking like spare parts, rarely brought in to the discussions & too much is crammed into a short space of time.

The gang might consider it a Consumer type/newsy thing, so don`t included it...but saying that Panorama is allowed in...I will have a word, but it is garbage. A typical 7pm, BBC1 show. About time there was some proper entertainment on, at that time in contrast to ITV and Emmerdale!

Brilliant read - once again. It's very Gleeful at the moment!! 1982 had so many classic tunes. Remember this era well, was when Tommy Vance began the Top 40 show - some of the TV brought back a memory or two.

By the way, I host a retro chart every Sunday at 4pm on Pennine FM, if anyone interested - you can listen online - this Sunday it's 2000!!

Boyzone have massive pre-orders! :o They're out on the same week with Sugababes, Amy Macdonald and Gorillaz and I can't believe they are going to outsell all of them! :o

Their fans have been waiting a long time for this album. If they were getting some decent airplay for the single they'd sell even more.
