well I guess after a lot of hype, Marina isn't doing THAT well.

What are you on about? Top 10 would be a big achievement for Marina & the Diamonds, because she's not an entirely commercial pop singer - the same as Florence & the Machine, who this time last year was being hotly-tipped just like Marina is now, but her proper debut single only reached #12 in the charts, but that didn't hinder her success over the last year at all did it?

They are not singers who's music is made with the aim of getting to #1 in the charts.

11. Hollywood (Single Version) - Marina and the Diamonds

Keep climbing!!! :w00t:

Also surprised that Glee Cast 'DSB' has overtaken Timbaland ft. Katy Perry.

Jedward still at no. 2!!! :cheer: Them getting to no. 2 on Sunday would be one of 2010's saving graces. Go Owl City, extend that lead. :w00t:

A snippet of it was sung on the latest episode of Glee, so it gave it a nice little boost. However I do want Timbaland & Katy to overtake it again, I'm starting to love the song

The Timbaland/Katy Perry song is actually really catchy. His sound is well outdated now but Katy Perry is the saving grace and it really sticks in your head... like it did withj me all day. Hope it outpeaks the horrid 'Morning After Dark'.
Why won't Blah Blah Blah move up and overtake the awful Hollywood and Young Forever.

Because it has no video and very little airplay maybe?

Because it has no video and very little airplay maybe?

Or because not enough people are buying it :kink:

The irony being more people would download 'Blah Blah Blah' if a video was on the music channels right now. That's seemingly how people buy music these days. Haven't got a high budget music video? Flop!!!

Lol but saying that JLS music videos are always crap.. They hardly spend anything on them and One Shot still climbed up the chart fast after the video was out

I don't see the issue here...

Having a video that gets heavy rotation is called EXPOSURE. Exposure sells. Without exposure, casual music fans wouldn't be aware of that song's existence, and therefore wouldn't buy it.

Exactly. The video could be awful, it'll still help sell the song.

The only examples I can think of where a song has been a lot more successful than perhaps it should have been due to having an immense video are Paparazzi and Meet Me Halfway.

Also, BEP are still following GaGa's chart success pretty closely - massive #1 hit, album released and does modestly with the 2nd single already big in other countries débuting instantly, 2nd single growing to be massive and outselling the first single, album revival, 3rd single does surprisingly well due to its amazing video, 4th single is a relative flop.

Um, the exact opposite actually.

Also, I hope you're kidding.

Um, no. I'm not surprised Paparazzi and MMH did well. They are great songs. I fully expected MMH to do well, has nothing to do with the video. I'm surprised Paparazzi only reached no.4

The only difference being that Rock That Body won't flop nearly half as bad as LoveGame, which should have done much much much better than it did. Only no.19???

Rock That Body won't flop btw.

"Paparazzi" is Lady GaGa's best song, and "Meet Me Halfway" is the best on the album, so they deserved the success they got

And the video for "Paparazzi" was amazing - I'd even say it's better than the video for "Bad Romance"

MMH owed at least a fair amount of its total sales to the fact that the video kickstarted its success so early. (plus the X Factor of course ) The same with Paprazzi - it would still have been successful, but not quite so early or so much without its video.

I said 'relative' flops - RTB won't get anywhere NEAR the success of BBP, IGF and MMH, as LG didn't with JD, PF and Pap. I think RTB will do better than LG but not much. It definitely won't flop and I didn't say it would, but it WILL flop in relativity to its predecessors, no doubt about it.

I wish 'Yeah Yeah Yeahs' were doing well in the iTunes top 40. Skeletons is certainly a very atmospheric song! But due to it not being R&B, having no promotion (although it does have a video), no airplay etc, it's bound to flop (just like Zero and Heads Will Roll). Sad for such an innovative band.

I'm a fan of theirs but I didn't even know 'Skeletons' was being released as a single... what does that tell you?

That you don't read the release schedule very often!!! :P

'Paparazzi' was destined to go top 3, with or without an 'immense' video, yet it still only landed at #4.
