Hmm...not bad actually and has 'UK #1' written all over it, but then so does the original Stromae version. Maybe release them both on the same week and see who wins :P

The only good thing about 'So We Skank' is that they've managed to translate the lyrics of 'Alors On Danse' really well. It's pretty much the same theme and concept. They should've just called it 'So We Dance' though.

I've been a bit late catching on with this song, but I'm beginning to absolutely :heart: it! I can't speak French and I don't understand what he's saying, but I think the beat is immense and it is very addictive. It always makes me wanna get dancing :dancing: .

Not that I'm aware of. The embedded video in this thread was the first time I'd heard the song. Doubt it'll have been given many plays on Radio 1.

I just downloaded Mp3 called Stromae - So Now We Dance. It's another english version but it's obviously not sung by stromae and it has also that UK Funky beat like "So We Skank" but the rapper is absolutelly awful

If this is the song, it says in the video description that the track is made by Stromae. I can't tell if this referring to the fact that the original version was done by Stromae, or if it's saying that Stromae made this remix too. If he did, this could mean it'll get released here. It's clearly not Stromae doing the vocals though (at least, I hope he doesn't have that accent! :lol: )

 

If this is going to be THE version though, I think they could've done better. They've taken the "La la la la la" bit out, which is one of the highlights of the song, in my opinion. Also, my favourite part of the instrumental doesn't really feature in So Now We Dance (the bit where it goes from the staccato ostinato, to a "fuzzier" version of it, I don't really know how else to describe it). I do like that there's more drums in this version though.

 

Agreed, terrible. It's like it was written by 15yo. And he's clearly German but pretending to be cockney. Maybe it's Lena :kink: The grubby hets should enjoy the image at least.

I think the vocalist in that track is Vato Gonzalez. It would've been more interesting if it was Lena though. :lol:

I'd've preferred the Now We Skank (or Lumidee's version) to the Vato Gonzalez version, so I really hope it's the original Stromae version, although I'd be shocked if they just gave the original version airplay, simply because it's risky, as the public may not respond well to it. Afterall, there's not been many other recent successful foreign language hits to judge by.

 

And I hope it gets premiered on the radio soon.

Yeah, maybe it could be. That song that Rihanna and T.I. sampled got top 10 here some years ago I think, and that wasn't in English either.

'Dragostea Din Tea' was indeed non-English (it was Romanian, or Moldovan?). I know a fair few people who liked the O Zone track from when I was a college so there are people in the UK who would like foreign language songs if they were given the chance to hear it.

 

I hope 'Alors On Danse' is the genuine original Stromae version purely because I can imagine the "alors on danse" and the "la la lal laa" bits appealing to the UK public in the same way "mai hee, mai hoo, mai aahh, mai ah ahh" appealed to some of my mates at college back in 2003. The verses aren't important. It's all about the chorus. That's the bit everyone remembers so it's perfect for Stromae. Anyways, if it is the original French language version that gets released, then I hope it becomes a UK no. 1 hit. :D :dance:
