Posted January 31, 201015 yr Owl City stays at #1 with Fireflies As expected from his big lead during the week, Owl City stays at #1 to light up the charts with his Fireflies becoming the second single to stay for a fortnight at #1 this year. There is very little action elsewhere with the top 5 remaining the same except for Glee Cast climbing a place to #2 and Iyaz dropping a place to #3 as he asks for a Replay. JLS – One Shot climbs to #6 and Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind Part II climbs to #7 JLS rise another 4 places to reach #6, they still have a shot of a further climb as the full release is still not due for several weeks. Alicia Keys continues her rise up the charts with her solo version of Empire State Of Mind at #7, now having outpeaked her last single Doesn’t Mean Anything. Alicia now effectively has 3 songs inside the top 25, all climbing this week. Jay Z feat Mr Hudson – Young Forever climbs to #9 This week Jay Z can lay claim to 3 top 10 hits from his Blueprint III album and also 2 simultaneous top 20 single entries, as Young Forever rises to #9. This effectively means that Mr Hudson can lay claim to a second top 10 hit of his career as he does the singing on this track. Also N-Dubz Playing With Fire goes up to #14 which also features Mr Hudson on vocals, you’ll not be young forever if you play with fire! Jay Sean feat Sean Paul & Lil Jon – Do You Remember climbs to #13 UK R&B singer Jay Sean gets a 7th top 20 hit this week as Do You Remember rises 8 places to #15. This is the follow up to his highest charting single Down which features Lil Wayne and reached #3 toward the end of last year. This one features Sean Paul and Lil Jon, this is Sean Paul’s 8th top 20 hit (excluding Busta Rhymes, Beyonce and Blu Cantrell collabs) and Lil Jon’s second (excluding Usher’s Yeah). Timbaland feat Katy Perry – If We Ever Meet Again enters at #17 This week’s highest top 40 new entry comes from Timbaland, who joins the list of artists with 2 successive top 40 hits. Timbo also gets his 6th lead artist top 20 hit in a row, all taken from his Shock Value/Shock Value II albums. If We Ever Meet Again features a certain Katy Perry who also features on 3 Oh 3’s Starstrukk and seems to be setting herself up nicely for a successful second album when it comes. Rihanna – Rude Boy enters at #28 Barbadan superstar Rihanna gets a new entry this week with her new single Rude Boy in at #28 this week. This is looking on course to become Rihanna’s 15th UK top 20 single to maintain her 100% record (excluding album tracks, Jay Z’s track and Maroon 5’s one). Her record company had firstly decided to release Hard as the 2nd single from her 4th album Rated R and then changed their mind to promote Rude Boy, consequently Hard reached #42 last week but drops down this week. Young Money feat Lloyd – Bedrock enters at #40 Young Money is a US supergroup made up of rap artists signed to the Young Money Entertainment record label, set up by Lil Wayne. Featuring the likes of Drake, Omarion, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Lloyd and Lil Wayne himself, second single Bedrock enters at #40 this week. The song even features a reference to certain Bedrock residents … the Flintstones! Tracks falling short of this week’s top 40 This week there was a Hope For Haiti Now compilation album released which features tracks from Coldplay, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and many others. The lead single was Stranded by Jay Z with Bono, The Edge and Rihanna, the track (perhaps surprisingly) misses out on this week’s top 40. Bon Jovi miss the boat completely with their new single release Superman Tonight. Same for the comeback single from a newly reformed Ocean Colour Scene, it seems their Magic Carpet Days are over. UB40 also released a comeback single but missed out, as did X-Factor contestant Daniel Evans with his debut Open Arms. Paolo Nutini reclaims the #1 album with Sunny Side Up Scots singer Paolo Nutini reclaims the #1 spot on the albums chart this week as he yo-yos back up to #1 again with second album Sunny Side Up. Alicia Keys climbs all the way to #2 with her album Element Of Freedom, making it her highest chart placing in the UK. Hadouken get this week’s highest new entry at #19 with their new album called For The Masses … it seems it is! Next week’s new releases / tips for the top Next week’s biggest new release surely has to be X-Factor twins Jedward who release their version of Under Pressure. Also Marina & The Diamonds release their first proper single Hollywood, along with Hot Chip, Demi Lovato, Editors and a Facebook campaign for Girls Aloud’s Untouchable. New albums are due fom Ke$ha, Hot Chip, Corinne Bailey Rae and Ocean Colour Scene amongst others. Personal opinion of 007! I am very happy to see Owl City’s brilliant Fireflies still at #1, even better that it keeps that Glee Cast rubbish at bay! I actually rather like One Shot by JLS and am happy to see it go up, hope it can manage a top 5 peak at least. I love the Alicia Keys solo version of Empire State Of Mind, just as good as her last single and Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart … I might just buy the album now! I don’t like Jay Sean’s new song much at all, same for Timbaland’s one … even Katy Perry doesn’t do much to improve it! Rihanna’s rude Boy is OK but she has done better, it might just grow on me like some of her previous hits have. Hate Pitbull’s new song and Young Money’s one is rubbish too in my opinion. Anyway it’s good that Paolo’s album is #1 again as I like him, I also love Alicia and Florence so good top 3 there.
January 31, 201015 yr Good read, but when you say it's Sean Paul's 8th and Lil Jon's 2nd top 20 single, why do you exclude other featured credits? By that logic Do You Remember shouldn't count as a top 20 hit for either.
February 1, 201015 yr Author Good read, but when you say it's Sean Paul's 8th and Lil Jon's 2nd top 20 single, why do you exclude other featured credits? By that logic Do You Remember shouldn't count as a top 20 hit for either. I see what you mean, in this case I should really have included all featured credits as Do You Remember is actually a featured credit. So in that case then this is Sean Paul's 11th top 20 hit and Lil Jon's 3rd. :D
