I thought it would finish far higher than their other two, which would both fail to qualify. Surprised it wasn't top 40 tbh!

I'm assuming, considering the young-ish member base on here, that it's heavily weighted towards 2006-2009 in the top 20 hence the appearance of a load of the early 00's classics right at the bottom (or rather crashing out in the last round :()

52 Calvin Harris 'I'm Not Alone' - 421 points (24 voters, 9th in Heat 1)

Now this is one I'm surprised about. I didn't think this was that well liked on BuzzJack, and that it would struggle to qualify. However it qualified with ease and did well in the final too, it was comfortably inside the top 20 after 15 votes.

Without wanting to give much away, the answer to that is yes and no. :kink:

This not only spent more than a single week atop the charts, but managed three. That was some feat back in 2000 with a new number one most weeks. It was unsurprisingly one of the biggest sellers of the year.

When Love Takes Over  One of 2009's highlights and I was rather suprised to see it go to #1 tbh  Shame it got outsold by Sexy Chick in the end I suppose.

I never quite got the love for Dilemma really, a great song but I wouldnt rank it as a classic of any sorts.

Liberty X have a few songs I prefer to Just A Little aswell, but still a  song

Way I Are was brilliant back in 2007 aswell, cant say I love it as much now though.

I never liked DSM. I don't deny it is a pop classic but S Club 7 had far better material both singles and album wise. Of course now all of their songs sound dreadfully dated haha.

Having had minimal success with their first two albums it's probably fair to say they wouldn't have got where they were today without the appearence of Justin Timberlake on this, their debut single. Spending 6 weeks at number one (IIRC the longest of the decade until 'Umbrella') this became a huge Worldwide hit. I'm not sure if their success in 2009 will have helped or hindered this. Heat 1 really was the weakest.

Well I am shocked. I thought it would just about qualify but I didn't expect anything other than bottom 10 for a song such as this, but it's done very well to finish so high. I've never been able to make my mind up about this. The first part is truly wonderful, but then it just descends into generic emo pap.

The amount of Christmas number ones which actually qualified for this final was pathetically low (just two), which just goes to show how awful Reality TV has turned it. This is the first of those to appear and despite being a cover is one of the more unique number ones of the previous decade. It came out of nowhere to beat The Darkness in a closely fought battle not seen again until last Christmas.

My brief thoughts:

84 Beyonce ft Jay-Z 'Deja Vu' - 199 points - With the exception of Crazy In Love why do all her & DCs worst records make UK#1?

83 Kylie Minogue 'Spinning Around' - 218 - This track has dated badly unlike CGYOOMH.

82 Destiny's Child 'Independant Women Pt 1' - 236 - See #84.

81 Fedde Le Grand 'Put Your Hands Up For Detriot' - 243 - With Dance records I can't tell whether a track I like is going to do well or bomb. But I really liked this track and still do.

80 Justin Timberlake 'SexyBack' - 256 - I preferred the Justified era.

79 Alexandra Burke 'Bad Boys' - 267 - Not a bad record, but not a great one either.

78 Destiny's Child 'Survivor' - 269 - See #84

77 Rihanna 'Take A Bow' - 274 - I still find it strange how it made #1 as I think it is a slight tune without a strong melody.

76 Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya & Pink 'Lady Marmalade' - 276 - I should not admit to this but I really liked All Saints version of this track, mind you they murdered the other 'A' side "Under The Bridge"

75 Madonna 'Sorry' - 280 - The Pet Shop Boys remix was amazing.

74 Aaliyah 'More Than A Woman' - 289 - My favourite ever Timbaland production.

73 Arctic Monkeys 'When The Sun Goes Down' - 320 - A much slighter tune than IBTYLGOTDF but lyrically much stronger.

72 Holly Valance 'Kiss Kiss' - 320 - I never liked it thenand I don't like it now. Now "State Of Mind" .... that's what I call a tune.

71 Britney Spears 'Oops... I Did It Again' - 322 - A not as good copy of ... Baby One More Time, but this track now will forever belong to Jedward ... especially the speaking bit. :kink:

70 Daniel Bedingfield 'Gotta Get Thru This' - 338 - A great track, a shame DB was a bit of a prat.

69 Melanie C 'I Turn To You' - 338 - I'll never forget watching CD:UK when this reached #1 and she changed some of the lyrics"'cos I am Sporty, I am Spice ...... cos I am number one, etc" Bring back TOTP!

68 Oasis 'The Importance of Being Idle' - 340 -Easily Oasis best #1 of the decade, due to them changing their ripping off The Beatles formula to a ripping off The Kinks formula.

67 Beyonce & Shakira 'Beautiful Liar' - 340 - See #84

66 Shapeshifters 'Lola's Theme' - 341 - I never rated this track.

65 Black Eyed Peas 'Boom Boom Pow' - 347 - How the F did this win the Grammy for video of the year? Better than Single Ladies; DMs Wrong & the GaGa? I don't think so.

64 Katy Perry 'I Kissed A Girl' - 349 - She kissed the West Ham supporting English lothario comedian, actor, columnist & author and she liked it.

63 Black Eyed Peas 'Meet Me Halfway' - 353 - The END is a strange album, it has half a dozen great tunes such as this, yet it does not feel like you are listening to a great album.

62 S Club 7 'Never Had A Dream come True' - 359 - A great Cathy Dennis ballad far better than "Have You Ever"

61 Lily Allen 'Smile' - 360 - A great summery tune, but not as good as LDN. Does anyone else remember Example's parody of this "Vile"?

48 Micheal Andrews ft Gary Jules 'Mad World' - 441 points (19 voters, 14th in Heat 3)

I love this. I think it is so much better than the original. I suppose it helps that I love Donny Darko.

It came second on my list of favourites.

Ooooh MCR. Still epic all these years on. I still can't believe it even graced #1 tbh!

Riding on the success of older Brother Daniel, 2004 was a fairly successful year for Natasha Bedingfield. However like Daniel before her, her career took a nosedive after her debut album, although it wasn't helped by the utter garbage she released.

49 My Chemical Romance 'Welcome To The Black Parade' - 434 points (17 voters, 16th in Heat 3)

Benefits from the basic lack of guitar led tracks in the final selection. I haven't checked, but I expect most people who had Kings Of Leon high had this quite high as well.

And, I completely disagree with you about the "generic emo pap"!

I adore this song, I can still remember loving it back in the summer of 2001 and my love for it has never faded. This was a song I was hoping would do really well, but when it scraped through qualification by 3 places and 17 points I gave up. For it to then be at the top of the bottom half is pretty excellent.

Can't believe Another Chance has had a tough time getting through...

Hate that MCR song, as well as "Mad World". Love "It Feels So Good" and "The Way I Are". That Calvin track is pretty overrated, but I commend him for doing something different amongst all the current electro crap. Too bad it only lasted for 1 single...

EDIT: Oh and I love "Another Chance", especially the video. Not surprised it crashed early since a) the list is voted by mostly kids and B) there arent many dance fans. But at least its one of the best performing songs of its genre.

Her second of three entries, this again hasn't done as well as I'd perhaps have expected it to do. How does that bode for 'Toxic' though?

So, into the top half....

To this day I'm still shocked at how good this is. Not that it's the most amazing song ever, just that their previous album was absolutely dreadful. I never imagine they'd produce anything this good, a fully deserved first number one which I thought might happen when I first heard it.

There's something really beautiful and haunting about 'Everytime' that makes me forget she's singing it

I'm sure 'Toxic' will be very high. Even non loons recognise it's greatness as a pop record.
