Boyzone's album and single are both doing incredibly well on pre-orders. Hopefully two #1's are on the cards there but with the lack of airplay I can't see it. I just don't understand why commercial radio are even avoiding it? They were over Love You Anyway and in particular Better like a rash and Gave It All Away surely has the makings to be bigger than both of those?

What exactly do UK radio stations know? Radio 1 have snubbed Lemar but the beauty of seeing his great new single top 10 is very pleasing - proves that Radio 1 don't have as much as an impact on the singles chart. I'd like to think he's top 10 because people like his song instead of the other case where like the artist and buy the song regardless of quality ('Crack A Bottle' anyone? I could name many more!!! :P ).

I'm not the biggest Boyzone fan and find most of their past singles really bland or very average. I genuinely think 'Gave It All Away' ranks inside Boyzone's top 5 best singles in their career - it's just a shame it's only seen the light of day following Stephen Gately's death. Had that not happened, I wonder if this would've still been pushed a single release? Who knows, with strong physical sales (assuming it sells more than 1k on cd singles  ), it could be a shock no. 1 hit. :o

...with Gabriella Cilmi ready to knock them off no. 1 the following week :D

In my wisdom, I usually listen to Smooth Radio during the day. Mark Goodier/Paul Coia/Lyn Parsons/Andy Peebles/Tony Blackburn etc, all ex-BBC and all playing Lemar & Boyzone. This is what Radio 2 should be about. Radio 2 failing the Government Paper the other day, and need to get their act together. The average listener on Radio 2 is over 50. So, why are they aiming at the average 35 year old, and why are Radio One aiming at the average 12 year old!

And those other people Heart & Capital = Big Top 40...Total clueless of their potential listening range, and a chart that reflects static playlists.

Another fascinating set of info - particularly remember 85 TV - Dempsey an Makepeace!! Big on friday nights. Remember actually listening to the Network Chart with the kid that weekend. CAn't believe it's 25 years!! By the way another Retro chart countdown this Sun at 4pm on Pennine FM - this week it's 1993!
Hole In My Heart will be lucky to scrape the top 50 imo =/

I'm kind of scared of that too :( I hope the tour gives them a boost...

So will we be expecting 'EastEnders Live: The Aftermath' to enter in the low top 30 in two weeks time? :o :cheer:

Quite funnily the "live" edition got 16m viewers last night. Funny because some numbskull said it was a record breaking figure...so did they forget 1986?!!

So what main radio station is supposed to be catering for the 26-50 age group then? Radio 1, for teens to 25, and radio 2 for 50 plus???

I thought radio 2 was for over 25s??

Sorry to go OT, but I'm puzzled

Thanks for the info Dave, interesting read as usual.

It was a government paper, that surveyed the nation. The results were the average listener of Radio 2 was over 50. The report stated that 2 was not reflecting that, and it was set out to do so, when it started. Radio One was actually set out in 1967, to cover the teens-forties. That`s what they mean. Although we already know Radio One has been going wrong since 1993, and the Matthew Bannister clear-out.

I would personally say that the 25-50 group has been long forgotten, even previous to 1993. I remember a stupid remark by Radio One Producer "Dave Price" in 1985, when he stated "When Radio One started it never played oldies, previous to 1967 hits". This was the biggest bollocks ever spoken. Blackburn/Rosko/Jimmy Young et al, always played oldies even from the 50s. If you look at it that way today, Radio One should actually be playing 60s/70s/80s/90s/00s hits, as well as new material. Radio Two, according to the paper set out, should be going into the 40s/50s/60s/70s/80s/90s/00s as an easy listening station, with the added bonus of "todays" easy listening songs.

Thanks Dave, I agree, as someone in that group I find radio 1 juvenile, and radio 2 fogey-ish. I oscillate between them though, as I hate commercial radio :(

On the typical average Commercial Independant Radio front i.e. Heart/Capital and that junk brigade, I would say they lost it when they all seperated the individual Local sound. Independant used as the word here is a joke...Independant means of it`s own, not a great group, all playing the same boring/sold up stuff. Probably Capital killed itself in 1988, when they launched the Gold service on A.M. Shouldn`t all of those greats of Kenny Everett/Alan Freeman/Graham Dene/Tony Blackburn/David Hamilton all of remained FM presenters...Ageism is against the law says the Government. Radio One a fine example of breaking the law, these days too.

It's really really bad. I don't quite know how they expect to get anywhere with it, especially if 'The Spell' could only scrape into the top 20...

It's a great song, but it's less obvious than The Spell. How that flopped, I have no idea, but I will sort of understand it when this inevitably does :( Just hope they don't pull or delay the album :(
